Thanks! Definitely LOVE Creambacks too. I love the M-65 Creamback for high gain, I like the H-75 Creamback more for crunch to high gain, but has something more old school vibe to it. Then the Alnico Cream is a great allrounder with amazing cleans and a great not harsh sounding treble (great for high gain too) but its pricier than the other two. Then the Neo Creamback which is definitely good sounding too, but I prefer the other speakers of the Cream family just a bit more.

the creambacks are the winner for me. Now I also liked others, but the creambacks take the harsh edge of the sound so gentle, I just like that. Where as others might sound like the audible representation of a rash, the creambacks are balanced and soothing. Thanks for the comparisson, man! Gotta get me some of those creambacks to blend in with my V30s and my T75s!

Great comparison. There were no bad speakers here, just different tones. They all sounded very good really. I was a bit surprised at how even and composed the V30 was, pleasant mids. Maybe it works really well with the EVH 5150.

Thank you for this mate. Last time I asked you to put the K100 into context and here it is. Considerations from a guitar tone nerd recorder: the 30th Anniversary is one excellent recording speaker. It combines the woody voicing of a vintage speaker with the 3D high fidelity of a modern one with the mids just slightly scooped. The fidelity brings a sparkle with it that might be a bit rough and bright in the room, but translates very well into the mic. It's probably my favourite here. The Mesa V30 is the most balanced, with more mids and a more modern voicing compared to the 30th Anniversary. The Creamback M65 feels like a warmer Mesa V30, it might sound the best in the room. The K100 and the T75 also share similarities, especially in the top end texture, the K100 fuller in the mids (more modern) than the more scooped T75. They do the 80s Metal thing like nothing else. The Creamback H75 seems very strong in the mids, there's something almost overwhelming going on there. It falls into the"live with a band mix" speaker category in the same way the V30 does, I reckon. The V-Type feels a bit like a mix of the 30th Anniversary and the V30, which is good, but with a less detailed top end, making it sound a tad too generic. My two cents. Cheers, mate.

A bit late on this, but really great comparison! I really, really disliked the A type which i didn't know, as well as the T75s which I know all too well ;). Confirms I did the right thing in removing them from my Marshall 1960A cab. I replaced them with 2 Vintage 30s and two H75 Creambacks in X pattern. Usually not a fan of V30s on their own but they really pair very well with H75 Creambacks. The Creambacks are the best of all worlds for me. Defined with great barky midrange that is not grating and just enough highs for my taste. With my Strat they sound fantastic as it does here. I prefer the H75 to the M myself but both are great speakers. Another speaker I didn't know much about is the V type. That sounded good to me here as well. They wouldn't be my go to but surprising to me with tons of personality. The Neo version of the V type seems to have all the worst qualities of V30s though, x10! ;) The T75s, unsurprisingly for me had the least personality. Just a pretty mediocre speaker overall. In my cab with the same guitars and amps, they had very harsh highs and weird high mids yet they are way too scooped with woolly muddy lows. Not sure why Marshall used them so much through the years.
@ThevonMusic
@ThevonMusic 2 жыл бұрын
I've used your 1960A cab too in the past and can confirm. That cab sounds quite harsh with those speakers. Sounds like a lovely X pattern you got there! The V-Type is definitely not bad but I prefer a lot of other speakers over it. The V-type, although you can't hear it in this comparison is also a very mid scooped speaker. I really have to turn the mids up a lot compared to other speakers when I'm using this one. The K-100s are quite similar to T75s as well soundwise and physical, with such a big dustcap, that's probably why they have that typical high treble, but mid scooped sound. Also not my cup of tea in the room, but with a more 'mic on the side' placement for recording they're not bad either.

Fantastic! I have been searching for a high gain comparison. Interesting that my likes and dislikes here match my real world experience (at least with the ones I own) My favorite here was the g12h 30 anniversary, same as what is in my primary cab, next was the gt-75, same as my real cabs and did not like the V30s, same way I don't like my v30 4x12 cab. Im a hard core thrash metal guy and don't like the v30s, go figure. I am going to relisten to see what my third favorite is and do a cab of those for variety. (replace the gt-75s in a marshall 4x12, I have a few)

Great comparison . It would be great if someday someone could do a comparison like this with vocals mixed in bc that makes a huge difference. What sounds like a big full sound all of a sudden is competing with vocals in some scenarios . Often mixers take big thick sounds and end up treble boosting the sound and lowering it in the mix, so what you may be hearing is a very bright sound that would lose in a comparison
@ThevonMusic
@ThevonMusic Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you like it. In all honesty I don't agree with what you're saying here. I mixed a few albums and in every situation I will not change the sound of any instrumentation because of vocals being added. Especially not boosting any treble. If everything is at its proper place, you should be able to add/delete certain instruments/vocals/whatever in a mix without really getting into trouble.
@rickjohns689

Really surprised by this. The V and A types were better than I thought they would be. With the V type stock in some amps, I guess it has a stigma of being cheap. They hung with the others and sound fantastic.
@ThevonMusic
@ThevonMusic 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not that much into the A-Type because it doesn't have that much treble and the V-Type also didn't come out as well in the past as it did in this video. I guess it also depends a bit on finding a sweet spot (mic placement + amp eq) for recording them.

Couple surprises for me here. Biggest one was probably how I would rate the standard V Type to be one of my favorites while also thinking the neo v type was the worst one. The neo just had this bad fizzy frequency I did not like the sound of. Lynchback was kinda neat, A type definitely different...

Late to the party, but my 2 cents. Loved the G12H, the Lynchback, and the V30 with your EVH. Sounded great. When in the Mesa cab, same but damn that bass resonated, didn't it? There is a reason they are so expensive. They are just that good. Hard to tell which of those three I thought were the best, but something about that 80's gain I just love.

I was second-guessing the G12Ks in my Peavey 4x12, but they sound close enough to the V30s that I'm not skeptical anymore. Some of the others sound kind of compressed which was surprising. The creamback and lynchback also sounded good to me.
@ThevonMusic
@ThevonMusic 2 жыл бұрын
K100's don't sound anything like V30's. The closest are T75's. Listen at the end of the video, the treble of the T75 and K100 is totally different than V30. If you A/B compare other speakers such as the creambacks, they're a lot closer to V30s. But hey, nothing wrong with K100's.

Just getting around to listening to this speaker shootout. I had a V30 & G12H30 (16ohm versions) mix in my Avatar 2x12 and although i like them each individually, i wasnt a huge fan of them paired together. I currently have a pair of Eminence V1216's which are very high wattage, 120 Watts a piece to be exact! I'm looking for speakers that are more efficient at lower volumes. You have me wanting a pair of G12M65 Creambacks after listening! They sounded thick yet tight and without that ear grating treble presence that some Celestions have. Are there any negatives in your opinion of the M65's? Great job on the video, and thanks for taking the time to put it together!
@ThevonMusic
@ThevonMusic 10 ай бұрын
I think the M65's are a great option and probably one of the best speakers out there all around. On the other hand, If I owned a 2x12 I'd never buy two similar speakers, I actually think mixing is a great idea, especially because if you want to record your cab, you have more options available. But that's just a personal choice ofcourse.

I’m not from a metal background, but FWIW I thought the H75 did the job best, both isolated and in the mix. I thought the G12H30, Vintage 30 and ceramic V-Type sounded good in the mix, but not so much isolated. G12M-65 is a great rock/blues speaker, but farted out way too much in this metal context. G12T-75, G12K-100, and Neodymium V-Type all sounded horrible imo. Thanks for the video, very useful!
