i absolutely love when people learn and actually appreciate the mexican culture and embrace it, but taking a dish and labeling it something completely different isn’t cultural appreciation. it stops being cultural appreciation once it’s taken and re-invented into something else and stripping it of its origin. the same way other creators took agua frescas and renamed them ‘spa water’. ‘cowboy caviar’ is called an Esquite. no latino is mad people are eating it or making it and posting it, maybe just not rename it and pretend it’s something new and never been done before

Hidaya really should get her head scanned. My friend had the same symptoms and not to scare anyone but had a massive aneurysm growing over the years. She’s only 15 now and it’s 34 mm. Her case is extreme, but she had very similar instances and could be possibly related. The sooner the better. Because right now it’s taking a lot of surgeries to even somewhat make it bearable for her. Consistent headaches are also a sign. Again this isn’t like an online diagnosis but something you should definitely check out. A lot of doctors might also dismiss it on nutrition or wtvr it is, but she had doctors tell her she just wasn’t eating enough for years, until her mother demanded a head scan so please just in case get it checked, ur life is worth the cost.

I type this with respect and kindness. My intend is to be insightful. ….it’s called ceviche. As a Latina(Mexican), I LOVE when non-Latinos eat and explore our food. Appreciating another culture’s food does not go hand in hand with CHANGING the name of a TRADITIONAL dish. The Latino community isn’t upset that she’s eating or making it, we have an issue with the NAME CHANGE and NOT acknowledging where the dish comes from. If she would’ve made the TikTok introducing the name and background of CEVICHE, I could assure that she would’ve been welcomed with open arms. And if I may add, “corn salad” is Esquite.

I would say personal/private companies (with potential buy out if you get an LLC) are the way to go and also for pastries for her to have a one-up she should really hone in on sugar art in addition to the pastries… plus leverage your culture! Those flavors that come natural to you are desired by many 💜💜

People are mad at the cowboy caviar woman because it’s almost an exact copy of a Mexican dish that she just renamed and profited off of. Same thing happened with the Mexican drinks agua frescas. It was renamed to “spa water” and white people profited off of it. It’s not appreciation if you see something from another culture, whitewash it by renaming it in English (not whitewashing if it’s the exact translation, but ppl rarely use the English names for Spanish foods anyway) and changing it a little, and not giving credit to culture you stole it from. That’s cultural appropriation. People are tired of the things they get made fun of for being whitewashed in order to appease a white audience. It’s offensive, humiliating and enraging.

Some knowledge on flight attendants (I am one) : -We are not being paid during delays, sitting in the airport, maintenance delays, etc. We are also frustrated with delays - We can only fly a maximum of 14 hours, starting with our report time in the morning. This can be at least 4 flights in a day. If we are going to hit our max during the flight, scheduling will remove us and it is not legal for us to work. -Most days we don't have more than maybe 15 minutes between flights to get food or eat what we brought. This is not enough time with long airport lines so we survive on pretzels and cookies throughout the day. It can be a brutal job. Love hearing you guys talk about flying though!

Real advice for Hidaya from someone with medical training and fainting experience: the second you feel the feeling (tingly, light headed, etc.) get down on the ground on your back and lift your legs. This gets more blood flow to your brain which is what is causing the fainting. It’s embarrassing to do but at least you remain conscious! Take your time getting back up. 15 min or more. Hope you get this handled. Xo

Hey guys, my name is Elizabeth, and I immediately noticed the potential in yall's new coffee packaging, (which I love the white minimalistic look, but had a thought..) I have a suggestion for the Kramoda Coffee bags; to differentiate the flavors, do a corresponding color (horizontal stripe around the whole bag. That way it's visually appealing and easy to grab the flavored wanted with ease. Also, it would look more aesthetic while photographing all the flavors together.

Great podcast just disagree on the cowboy caviar section definitely think it wasn’t culture appreciation as you said

So sorry to hear about Hidaya's health issue. My father experiences seizures quiet similar too. Doctor thought they were epileptic seizures but in the end, it was found to be "non epileptic seizures" as manifestation of psychological distress. So, he is now on antidepressants. I would suggest Hidaya to maybe go see a good doctor in Lebanon as she may be able to afford the treatments there and get an answer quicker. All the best, she is so young.

I hope hidaya sees a doctor asap! My husband has the same exact issue and he's seeing neurologists. He doesn't take medication for it. But he needs to sleep better, eat well and take breaks...meditate! I would say she needs go meditate to reduce how stress impacts her daily. Ive seen a video of someone meditating for a month and meditation changes how your brain functions arohnd stress. I hope she gets better! I've been helping my husband for maybe 8 years and it's scary everytime.

So I went to that school and I did go for pastry. And I have been in the industry for almost five years, and I will say that going to school taught me technical skills and when you do jump in to it more as class goes on. You will get a feel for it and a sense of urgency to keep up with the pace of the school. And they definitely help you find out what you like more in terms of restaurants life or bakery life. I definitely think you should trail for both restaurant or bakery to see what you like more! Good luck with school!!

Idk if hidaya will ever see this but i think the best thing that she can do is talk to a therapist and figure out where the anxiety coming from what gives her the hard hit once you know the first second that something or someone is gonna give u anxiety or negative energy( because for all i know even ppl that u are not comfortable with can give you negative energy and thats literally the worst they are not even doing anything ) you can stop it because now you know how it works and where its coming from and u can stop the anxiety way easier and once you deal with the anxiety you can deal with the seizing and stuff , i think she can easily get healed spiritually once she knows whats actually causing the anxiety and depression , i used to be in this state i be so down and having no energy at all the minute i open my eyes in the morning that i couldnt even get up to school or work i was literally like a dead person i missed out on so many stuff but yeah my case is different but i think she is scared to find out whats wrong and go through that healing process and ik how scary that u you would just rather be miserable instead of speaking cus its not just about fainting i think she really is struggling when she should be having fun staying at home that much and being depressed is not normal even tho i was like that for the most part of my life and so many ppl are like that in middle east maybe its genetics but still you can control it but yeah hopefully she gets better going to that school and being busy with ppl and baking ❤️

i loved this episode, i always love seeing hidaya! i’m so sorry that happened to you with that old witch, yuck! & please get checked out for your seizures, but i understand the insurance stuff. our healthcare system is awful..i found out i had preeclampsia with my rainbow baby @ 33 weeks and even my doctor said, “if you guys can drive yourself, do it, ambulance rides aren’t worth the price” especially when i was only going like 45min-1 hour away. it’s so sad!!
@andrea4liberation2 жыл бұрын
Hidaya, please consider coming to Tijuana to get checked. The doctors here are absolutely incredible and super affordable. No one needs the stress of not knowing. You can get CT scans for $30.

I absolutely love the podcast, but the cowboy caviar section did not sit right with me. Yes, she is getting a lot of hate but she could've said where it originated from and not have to change the name to fit a white person's aesthetic. If someone renamed an Italian dish like cacio e pepe to an English name and make it seem like they came up with it people would also go at them for making it Americanized. If it was cultural appreciation she would've said its original name. We don't need white people to tell us that our culture is not being appropriated.

i felt the exact same way because i love them and this podcast so much i hope they see this, i had already commented this on another comment but it's important to know that it's not "just food" it's our culture and the majority of us rather have it be appreciated than appropriated, it's just about respect, its like when someone tells you their pronouns, you call them by those pronouns out of respect for the person, it's ok to be ignorant as long as you're willing to listen, learn, and change when people are telling you something is disrespectful
@EyesByBec2 жыл бұрын
i feel the exact same way. they just got so insensitive because they don’t understand why our community was upset and seems like they didn’t even want to?? they just automatically took the side of that girl. idc if she’s making a snack, it’s the fact that she’s calling it a different name. you don’t know how to pronounce the name?? google is free. youtube is free. there is no room for ignorance when you have knowledge at your fingertips. it’s just tired. i’m sick of it.

My dad works at an airport and when they keep sending you from gate to gate like that it’s because they don’t know what to do with you. They are trying to keep you busy while they figure it out. In my experience. It never does get figured out. My dad usually finds us a new flight when they start that up

annoyed cuz the whole podcast was a vibe and then that happened, i turned off the episode. so insensitive, tone deaf, and just ignorant. didn’t even bother to try to understand why we’re upset. we’re not upset because that woman made ceviche. why would that upset us???
