I'm getting a beardie for Christmas and I've done soo much research and I think it's easier to have a seperate tub for feeding just a Rubbermaid tub or something and feed them live bugs in there. Hope this helps anyone.

Why not pet stores? I don't buy animals from chain petstore. Infact I don't have any chain petstore a where live. Only got a awesome petstore takes amazing care there pets, sadly keeps Betta in little jars :(

hi! my tanks is pretty big and its cold in my house around 65 f all the time I have thought about gettin 2 ceramic lamps : the exoterra PT2048 and the PT2047 my question is can I just get one and it will cover the whole tank or should I get 2? thanks for your answers.
@Zaxtor998 жыл бұрын
+Omri Jaacov - I'd get just one basking light and try to get one side of your tank 96 to 105F. The other side can and should be cooler, and 65F is fine if that's as low as it ever gets.

I did this mistake and did not approximate how much bugs will cost. When i spent 300 $ per 3 weeks I understood that I need to do something quick and I started to buy insects in bulk and got a big plastic container.
@NinaAm7 жыл бұрын
I got a juvenile beardy, she has bitten me twice. Once when i stopped her from over a counter top. Then once when she tried to make an escape attempt in the garden. While she is young, i don't have a heat lamp, but she is in a building that is affected by the weather. Our summers are extremely hot. I have actually seen her gape because she was over heating. She enjoys going inside to AC during our lunch break with us.
@breebree2187 жыл бұрын
Nina there is NO substitute for lamps. You absolutely have to have them.
@NinaAm7 жыл бұрын
Breanna Fowler She has always had a UVB light, just going to say that now. Also that comment was probably close to 2 months old, I got a heat lamp several weeks ago. However, at the moment I only use the heat lamp when it gets a little cool, because I've had her show signs of overheating. Having both the outside temp affect the building *which inside it can get high 80, low-mid 90s and mid to high 90s still outside* That being said, i understand where you are coming from and i understand the worries behind it. Going through something similar with a friend who litterally just got her baby. However, temperatures are something I am paranoid about. I always make sure she is in the appropriate temperatures. Even getting close to either end of temperature (yes, she has nearly overheated several times during the summer. Thats' why she liked comong inside to an actual A.C.ed building.) That being said, she does have both lights, UVB and heat. I'm sorry I worried, made you concerned, or made you upset.

HEY ZAXTOR!! sup im just about to get 1 WEEK OLD bearded dragon, first, is it a good idea? second, Ive built an 108 gallon tank for it coz i dont wanna buy several terrariums for it when it grows ( you know what I mean ) so to sum up is it gonna be okay or should i put some kind of "wall" in it to make a smaller "room". and one last Q, the petshop owner said a box ( in a size of a homus box lol ) full of smaller insects than the eyes of the BD costs around 12$

I noticed that as Rocky got older, his terrarium had vegitation in it. Was it real/live? Is that recommended? I've never seen that before; I've only seen the log and water dish and feeding dish.
@bratatouille5 жыл бұрын
An enclosure with just food, water and a log is not sufficient. They will get bored and stressed.

Hey Zaxtor99 what is the proper size of a tank for a beardie that is about 9 weeks old?
@Zaxtor998 жыл бұрын
+Jorden adams - Hey Jorden, I'd say anywhere between a 20 to 40 gallon terrarium, but by the time your baby is an adult within about 9 months, you'd want to upgrade to a 60 gallon or bigger preferably. A 40 gallon would work if you had to for an adult, but preferably bigger by that time. Great question and thanks for your comment & question.

Can I buy a night heat lamp. Like the bulb. Or should I not do that?
@Zaxtor998 жыл бұрын
+kitten mitten64 - You don't want any heat going at night unless the temperature in your house is below 65F. Beardies sleep better at cooler temperatures, just like the Australian deserts get cooler at night.

I own one beared dragon and he cost $50 to feed per month. That includes daily crickets, changing his salad bowl daily(very fine diced collard greens, carrots, and sweet red bell pepper), and his calcium/multi vitamin supplement. I purchase my crickets (one week supply) and supplment(one container of the supplement last about a month it is fluckers brand) from a local pet store.
