Cloth has always been one of the tougher things to manually create, but ZBrush has some tools that make it REALLY easy - Here are all the most common cloth brushes in 2 minutes-!!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention, but the dynamic clothing simulation feature still works great with all the Dynamesh, zRemesh, and polish features - It's essentially just an easy way to quickly get any geometry to behave like clothing around the SubTool underneath it - Hope that clears things up :)

The amount of detail your humanoid models have gained just from putting in the time and effort to add zbrush to your skill list mixed with your pre-existing high level knowledge of blender is literally insane. and now that you are making these, i'm greatly reconsidering picking zbrush up again to complete specific tasks

I want to say a huge THANK YOU!! for putting this series together. I tried to make the switch from Blender when it came out but just wasn't flowing for me but I came back at it & finally getting comfortable & absolutely loving the workflow now!

I tried playing with this but I found it much easier to just make it manually with the standard brush. Also got any idea how thick a butt cape should be as I have no clue how thick at all.

Can I ask how you made the base shape of the cloak? Was it a plane you used physics on and then shaped? Thanks very much for the frequent, useful tutorials!
@TheRoyalSkies
@TheRoyalSkies 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah sure, I just let the physics run it's simulation on a plane on top of the model, and then masked > polygrouped > deleted the faces that were in front of her > and sculpted the left overs into a more "cloaky" shape -

@@TheRoyalSkies I have one more question if you happen to have time. How would you recommend making the base for something like a long, Ms. Marvel-sort of scarf? I thought there would be a Curve brush that would just pull out something like a tiling rectangle with some thickness, but the closest thing I can find is the CurveFlat brush. Would you use that and add thickness with a modifier or something, or is there a better way? I seem to be having more problems with imagining how to make the base geometry of things than anything else. Thanks very much.

I know I'm not crazy there is a setting that makes it, so you only sculpt the faces, right? like for example if you are sculpting a hoodie but only want to move the inside part. I swear I saw it before but I can't find it. Do you know where it is? Love the video as always keep it up.

something around the line of "back face influence" or something like that, it need to be disabled so that you dont drag what's in the back of the geometry ur sculpting on

You might need to divide and give it more geometry, It works best with mid-poly instead of low-poly objects -

Another area where blender is better. But some of those ZBrush cloth features aren't in blender and seem very cool. It's very interesting to see where the ZBrush developers draw the line between the benefits of implementing a general purpose 3D system, versus the ease-of-use of a constrained, sculpt-oriented feature-set. I know some people do some of their sculpting in ZBrush, and then switch to blender to polish it off and/or make an animation. But the exact workflow for choosing which parts to do in which tool is a very interesting question. My first thought (if I were a ZBrush person) might be to sculpt everything *except* the clothes (and hair) in ZBrush, and then switch to blender for cloth and hair. But if I wasn't planning to do any actual animation, I can see the incentive to stay entirely in ZBrush, in which case those cloth tools would definitely come in handy. I especially like ZBrush support for dragging cloth around and have it still respect collisions with the model. Very impressive stuff! Thanks for the video!

imo, there is nothing better in Blender about creating cloth. Zbrush have better simulation and better sculpting
@zackrobat
@zackrobat 2 жыл бұрын
@@Lyco0n When I use cloth in blender, I sometimes have scripted the specific shape of the cloth, with sliders to control various parameters; I've used cloth on models with very specific dimensions to make sure the cloth garment would actually fit a human who had the same dimensions; and then printed out the "flat pattern" which I could then use for sewing actual garments. Nowadays with geometry nodes I think it's possible to replace scripted cloth creation with node-based creation, which I think is probably an easier/better solution than trying to deal with the blender internal datastructure and api. Blender also supports animating characters, for example to do a catwalk of someone wearing a particular garment, so customers can consider whether to buy or not. Those are some of the things I've used blender cloth physics for. I haven't thoroughly examined the ZBrush feature-set, but my sense is that ZBrush would have difficulty with those things.

@@zackrobat Zbrush isnt objectively worse because of your subjective problems. Zbrush isnt meant for animation, and why would it? If they try to cramp everything into one software, its gonna be a mess, try to be good at everything without being good in the end. Blender is good for amateur sculpting, but the way it works is just not gonna catch up to Zbrush ever.

I'm starting to think that zbrush is just a software front-end for black magic fuckery. The UI certainly feels like I'm manipulating arcane symbols.
