This has been the best rock tutorial I have seen in a while! Thanks for the amazing tips and workflow : )

I like these kinds of tutorials where you just get right into it, without alot of excess talking! 😂 Good job! 👍

Liked it thankx for sharing. I am having a little hard time in creating "haytor rocks" they look soft and rounded so lets see if this works on it.

hey at around 7:16 you create like a stepping stone feature where you sample a section and hold alt and it creates something special mine doesn't work like that at all, very blobby on my end.

Hey there sketchy! The only way i can tell why thats happening is maybe because you are using the normal trim brush and not the "trim smooth border" brush... make sure you select it from the menu ive shown and that should do it. If it still doesnt work try using a new mesh from a new file and see if that works; you might have changed some settings without realising it, this happens a lot in ZBrush. Let me know how it goes!

@@thivolan3d hey yes I had the correct brush just had a look at it, I think its possibly just a practise thing, and still as a beginner. Will try resetting my rock back to the start and retry it. Thank you.

@@sketchygaz Curious if you figured out what was the problem for you. If the intensity is too high (100), and you try to pull your pen away from the "sampled" area, you will just carve into the model as you drag. With a lower intensity you can drag your pen and carve into the desired area and get pretty good results. At least this is how I tried to approach this.

@@aaronnewton6034 I didn't figure it out, but a lad of my course helped me out, i'm not 100% on my rocks but between the tutorial I'm pretty satisfied with how they turned out, I mainly used a trim dynamic to sort the edges out and took it a little slower than what you shown.

Can this be done in ZBrush Core? I woudl like to create mountain rock but as a hobbiest, core would be my limiting purchase to do so.
@thivolan3d11 ай бұрын
Hey darrell! I dont know much about cores brushes and limitations but im sure theres a trial version of core which you can experiment with before purchasing. And there you can see which brushes and tools are available. Although given that im not doing anything too fancy here im sure you can make use of the smaller brush set (with some workarounds) to achieve similar results... If there isnt a trial then you can search which brushes are available like the polish, trim, damstandard, slice and dynamesh which are the main tools i use here

Do you have a video where you do the low poly version of the rocks?
@thivolan3d Жыл бұрын
Hi Rose! Are you referring to retopologizing the rocks for game ready models? If thats the case then no I'm not a texture game artist; i deal more with raw sculpting and rendering so i usually dont cover game ready techniques in my tutorials
