Basically "Tools" can have multiple "Sub-tools" inside of them. In Blender terms a "Tool" = "Collection" and a "Sub-tool" = "Objects inside the collection". Of course, there is more to it, but I learned a lot faster once I started to think about things in those terms -

im sorry but this doesnt work. Clicking the star, and importing, just makes my mesh the active tool to begin drawing the mesh onto the canvas. It doesnt load the mesh pre-placed onto the canvas, as far as i can tell.

Man I hate zbrush so much... I rarely ever come across anything digital related that makes me as frustraited as Zbrush... I have attempted to get into it a few times now.. but its interface and UI is just wayyyyyyyy too frustraiting to get a handle on... seriously why add objects through sub tools.... why make it replace unless is tell it not to, why don't they have an intuitive system that can either walk you through all the basics or alter the input and layout to something more user friendly... such as blender or maya inputs.... as someone who studies 3d animation at college,.... I will refuse to use zbrush on any projects until you fix your annoyingly frustraiting system. Or at the very least create helpful simple to follow instructions to help... Meanwhile I have been using blender which is getting better and better on a monthly basis,.. 3dcoat which is so much more intuitive it makes me wonder why zbrush is even still the "industry standard"..... and even nomad sculpt off my tablet... Zbrush devs if any of you read this.. you have a lot of competition now, so fix your or at the very least create an easy to access alternative interface and ui or you will just loose customers to these other superior programs.

100% agree. I started with Maya + zbrush 4 and switched to blender for most things 2 years ago. I rarely use zbrush so find I have to re-learn things every year because the interface is so unintuitive. The Zbrush UI is really awful to learn but don't give up on it. Zbrush can cut 50 million polys like a hot knife through butter, its remesher tool is better than blenders standard built in ones (the blender quad remesher addon might be as good but i haven't tested it) and quite a few of the z-brushes are vastly superior or just completely missing in blender. You can also have a full character with multiple sub tools for their clothing and props running into the 100 million poly mark and have everything responsive and running smooth in zbrush. Blender 3.1 starts lagging at around 12 - 20 million polys on my system (RTX 3090 + Ryzen 24 core CPU). I would think for most (not all) professional mid-high poly character artists Zbrush is essential ... for everyone else I think probably not so much. For me though I try to do as much as I can in Blender but I always find myself gravitating towards Zbrush to do character sculpting on the rare occasions I need to otherwise I do everything else in Blender. Blender is awesome but so is Zbrush, I just find it takes a little more time than pretty much any other 3d app I have ever used 😅 . But it will save you time later if you spend a lot of that time sculpting.

Awesome, I use blender and zbrush together too .... because they are tools and each have things they can do better than the other..... I hope you ignore the people complaining about doing zbrush videos who don't understand that software is just a bunch of tools. Do whatever content you want ! ... However I have to say that I really dislike the zbrush interface 🤣 I wish blender could handle 30 million poly meshes, I would never open zbrush again.

I totally feel ya on the interface thing. It's truly infuriating sometimes lol - But, on the other note, don't worry, I'll definitely be finishing the series as planned. I truly believe this series is extremely important, not just for new ZBrush users but for anyone wanting to train for the industry. It's gonna be fun, so I'll see ya around :)
