Please do more of these debunking of nutrition fads. Incredibly frustrating to see your family throw their money away and neglect legitimate habits to improve their health. There’s also a new onset for “hydrogen” water which claims to have antioxidant properties 🤨

+Tera Which of course it is true, hydrogen water does indeed act as an antioxidant, this has been numerous times proven, here are scientific studies: Hydrogen acts as a therapeutic antioxidant by selectively reducing cytotoxic oxygen radicals. Nat Med. 2007 Jun;13(6):688-94. Epub 2007 May 7. Drinking hydrogen water and intermittent hydrogen gas exposure, but not lactulose or continuous hydrogen gas exposure, prevent 6-hydorxydopamine-induced Parkinson’s disease in rats Med Gas Res. 2012; 2: 15. Published online 2012 May 20. doi: 10.1186/2045-9912-2-15 Consumption of molecular hydrogen prevents the stress-induced impairments in hippocampus-dependent learning tasks during chronic physical restraint in mice. Neuropsychopharmacology. 2009 Jan;34(2):501-8. doi: 10.1038/npp.2008.95. Epub 2008 Jun 18. A randomized double-blind multi-center trial of hydrogen water for Parkinson’s disease: protocol and baseline characteristics BMC Neurol. 2016; 16: 66. Published online 2016 May 12. doi: 10.1186/s12883-016-0589-0 There are even studies that are proven that hydrogen water works as an anti-cancer agent. What it does is that it reduces oxidative stress which suppresses the tumor colony growth in human tongues and connective tissue cancer cells. It also inhibits blood vessel growth which is called angiogenesis in lung cancer cells. There are also even studies shown that drinking hydrogen water reduces the side effects of cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation, a great example is that it improves the morality of weight loss which is actually caused by a chemotherapy medication called cisplatin and even reduces kidney toxicity. As for the radiation therapy that focus on liver tumor cells, drinking hydrogen water (1.5 - 2 L/day) suppressed oxidative stress (as measured by elevation of total hydroperoxide levels) and prevented the loss of appetite. Here are the list of the sources to support these claims: Molecular hydrogen alleviates nephrotoxicity induced by an anti-cancer drug cisplatin without compromising anti-tumor activity in mice. Cancer Chemother Pharmacol. 2009 Sep;64(4):753-61. doi: 10.1007/s00280-008-0924-2. Epub 2009 Jan 16. Effects of drinking hydrogen-rich water on the quality of life of patients treated with radiotherapy for liver tumors. Med Gas Res. 2011 Jun 7;1(1):11. doi: 10.1186/2045-9912-1-11. So, I have actually no idea why anyone would really want to try to debunk hydrogen water while there are countless of studies that supports that hydrogen water is very beneficial for the human health. Alkaline water does not work so that is correct but hydrogen water, ozonated water and spring water has an amazing benefits for our health.

Far Mur so if it’s literally just the hydrogen and excess acid in the water, why wouldn’t you see the same effects with 2L of soda a day. Or orange juice.

Far Mur I looked at your sources. Most of them have only gotten to the mice or rats stage of testing. When the studies are on humans that are well designed and can prove causation and not just correlation are completed I will be happy to read them. However, until that time, it is overpriced water with baseless claims.

Would love to find a joint lawsuit going on (they must be settling out of court). Three grandchildren whose baby teeth have been destroyed from alkaline water. Another family member who has alkalosis with shaking hands and compromised tissue after drinking this for over ten years while I suffer irratability and nausea from lesser alakosis. This is a horrible nightmare! “Worsened nutrition deficiencies Like your body enzymes, the function of gut depends on body pH as well. Gut performs a wide array of functions ranging from digestion to nutrient absorption. Take vitamin B12 for example. It binds to a protein from a saliva and passes to the stomach. In the stomach, due to stomach’s acidic pH, B12 leaves that protein and binds with another agent called the intrinsic factor. This process is extremely critical from the absorption of B12 because the intestine only recognizes intrinsic factor and absorbs only that B12 that is bound to intrinsic factor. That’s why, people using stomach acid decreasing medicines and having undergone gastric bypass, which decreases the level of stomach pH, can’t properly absorb vitamin B12. Now, imagine you drinking alkaline water daily. It will definitely make the stomach pH more alkaline and will not let it perform its necessary steps in B12 absorption. And that’s only one nutrient. Relying heavily on alkaline water can significantly alter the absorption of a bunch of other nutrients like iron, calcium, folate and so on. In fact, results of animal studies have proved that use of alkaline water can cause significant growth retardation due to poor nutrient absorption from the gut (2). Digestion malfunctions The common phrase the sellers would tell you is that the alkaline water helps in digestion to keep you healthy at all times. However, it is not true, as it actually hinders the normal digestion process. This is due to steep changes in pH levels. People who are over 60 years should not drink alkaline water as the digestion side effects are severe. The digestion malfunctions are likely to lead to conditions such as hypochlorhydria. This is a sickness caused by calcium malabsorption, which gets worse with the continuous use of the alkaline water. In fact, there is a well characterized syndrome due to the excessive alkalization of stomach. It is called milk alkali syndrome. In this syndrome, when the stomach acid is decreased a bit too much, the absorption of calcium gets compromised to dangerous levels. Decreased calcium levels can be dangerous because a normal calcium level is needed for proper brain, gut and muscle function (3).” medlicker.com/926-alkaline-water-dangers “The pH of your stomach varies, from 1-2 up to 4-5. When you eat, the stomach releases enzymes called proteases as well as hydrochloric acid to aid in digestion. By itself, the acid doesn’t really do much for digestion, but the proteases that cleave proteins work best in an acidic environment or low pH, so after a high-protein meal, your stomach pH may drop to as low as 1 or 2. However, buffers quickly raise the pH back to 3 or 4. After the meal has been digested, your stomach pH returns to a resting level of about 4 or 5.” www.thoughtco.com/ph-of-the-stomach-608195 “If the bottled water has a pH lower than 5.5, then it has the ability to dissolve enamel, which is the hard protective outer layer of your teeth and the hardest substance in the human body,” Robles says. That pH level varies between brands because of the different processes each company uses to make the water clean enough to drink. The added chemicals and filtration systems used ultimately affect how the water tastes and its final pH level. When it comes down to it, any water with a pH level of less than 7.0 is considered acidic, or harmful to the body. However, some of the most popular brands have a pH level of less than 5.5 - meaning it can dissolve tooth enamel, aka the hardest substance in the body.” www.rd.com/health/wellness/safest-bottled-water-brands/ Exposure To Alkaline Substances Can Result In Damaged Teeth www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/10/091027132424.htm

Well, that explains why I being in my late 20's, have been experiencing shaking hands (hand tremors), nausea and vomiting sensations, severe weight loss from an inability to absorb any food, severe stomach pain and organ tremors, and major difficulty in breathing with a potential for suffocation: Alkalosis. It turns out, Alkaline water above a pH of 8.0 will eventually destroy the internal organs because of Alkalosis, and this begins in the stomach, when it eventually will fail from the continuous effort of releasing Hydrochloric Acid non-stop with every sip of Alkaline water above a pH of 8.0. Pepsin, an enzyme, is deactivated in the Stomach when a pH of above 8.0 is detected in the stomach, and this enzyme is necessary for Acid Reflux, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Our stomach MUST be acidic, or it will fail. Stomach failure means the inability to digest food, particularly proteins, and death from malnutrition will occur in a matter of months if the Acidity is not brought back to the stomach. The Kidneys will most likely fail too, due to the stomach failing to properly digest proteins, and the proteins will be sent off to the Kidneys for excretion, without being absorbed. Probably the most frightening part of Alkalosis, is the potential for suffocation. This is because when the blood is too Alkaline, the lungs will be forced to breathe in less Oxygen, and this will eventually result in suffocation of the Brain due to lack of Oxygen. It literally feels like every breath you take is cut in half, as if your lung capacity is halved, to prevent your blood from becoming even more Alkaline. On the opposite end, being in Acidosis will force a person to increase their rate of Respiration to get rid of Carbon Dioxide, which is why many obese people breathe very rapidly and heavily, mostly because their blood is slightly more acidic than necessary. There can be too much of a good thing, in this sense, too much Alkaline Water. I for one will be taking a break from Alkaline Ionized Water for a few months, until I recover (hopefully I won't die, because I'm still not doing well). When or if I go back to Alkaline Water, I will only be drinking a pH of 7.5 and not very often. Clearly, this Alkaline Ionized Water is for therapeutic purposes, and not for daily consumption. The same goes in the other extreme, Acidic Water or Drinks, like Coca Cola. Coke or Soda in general, have therapeutic purposes too, because they have a pH of 2.5, and can give your digestive organs a nice cleanse on the inside, and can even release Kidney Stones. The pH of our blood is between 7.35 and 7.45, and so drinking water with a pH of 7.5 is the highest pH I will be drinking, starting sometime in the future.

@@thelordsday311 you must been taking baking soda to do this on a regular basis, lol alkaline water without baking soda wont cause alkalosis, this is physically impossible, u need to do more research before claiming something is harmful , I ve seen people using them for years without the condition you're talking of, you;re probably a shill for big pharma :/ they wouldnt be using this alkaline water in Japanese hospitals for 40 years if it was harmful lol ... alkalosis is a blood condition its not caused by drinking water lmao. theres also this study that counteracts your claims and the above poster The biological effect of alkaline water consumption is object of controversy. The present paper presents a 3-year survival study on a population of 150 mice, and the data were analyzed with accelerated failure time (AFT) model. Starting from the second year of life, nonparametric survival plots suggest that mice watered with alkaline water showed a better survival than control mice. Interestingly, statistical analysis revealed that alkaline water provides higher longevity in terms of “deceleration aging factor” as it increases the survival functions when compared with control group; namely, animals belonging to the population treated with alkaline water resulted in a longer lifespan. Histological examination of mice kidneys, intestine, heart, liver, and brain revealed that no significant differences emerged among the three groups indicating that no specific pathology resulted correlated with the consumption of alkaline water. These results provide an informative and quantitative summary of survival data as a function of watering with alkaline water of long-lived mouse models.

@@Athenesucksass If alkaline water is working for you, keep drinking it. I am not a 'shill' for Big Pharma, everyone is different. Alkaline water is not harmful, it just may cause strange side effects for people, but then again, even detoxing can cause strange side effects just by eating fruit. If you do not have symptoms of Alkalosis, keep drinking it, it is better than regular tap water no doubt.

Excellent video. I’m a plumber and paramedic of 25 years. It drives me nuts this ridiculous Alkaline diet and water craze. I own a water alkaline machine for its Hydrogen benefits, not about alkalinity. Today there is newer technology that produces H2 infused water without changing PH. As for acid reflux, I was on Nexium low dose and it didn’t help. Doctor up the dosage to 40 mg…still didn’t help. Alkaline water did nothing for my acid reflux. Then I learned acid reflux is actually a lack of acid. A friend said try Apple Cider Vinegar…within one week, my acid reflux was gone. That was 4 years ago. If I do get a flare up, 8oz glass of my RO water with 1 teaspoon or tablespoon of ACV fixes it! You guys are hilarious 😆 keep up the good work. Oh there are over 900 studies on hydrogen benefits to the body, zero on alkalizing!

I love this show agree with everything a couple notes for yall the pH scale is logarithmic so if you add somthing with a pH of 8 to a pH of 2 in equal quantities it dosent become a pH of 6 the strength of a pH of to is so strong that adding some weak base would make almost no dicernable difference. Also Tom adding a weak acid like the organic acids in lemons to a strong acid like HCl in a high enough quantity create a buffer system that will stabilize the pH of a solution depending of what acids are involved. So that part is actually true but not in the way that the hippies think it is :)

Almost all drinking water has added minerals and salt for flavor, and as anyone who gives normal saline knows, saltwater is actually quite acidic because it dissolves more carbon dioxide from the air. So a lot of these alkaline waters, ironically, are more likely to be acidic. Not that it even matters since your stomach has a pH of 2.

Small point: RO water is pretty damn pure, chemically. The stuff is added back, even by water treatment utilities that employ RO, because neutral, pure water isn't ACKSHUALLLLY that palatable to observant people (smaller point: the water that comes out of treatment processes can be corrosive, so minerals aren't just added back for taste). The water I would use for a chemical instrument, which we might call Type I (RO+nanofiltration+sterilization: just hyper-pure to reduce background interference), tastes funny IMO and is actually weirdly slippery and completely flat (no dissolved gases). ... just don't get me started on water. 😂 Water treatment is mostly a solved problem. Everything else is a SCAM!

so, this had intrigued me, and now im curious because of the terminology of a lot of the stuff mentioned. being that i have kidney failure and am on dialysis, im wondering if drinking a water with a higher pH is helpful. I ask because they kept mentioning bicarbonate which my dr has prescribed to me. ive been told to take tums with my meals or binders but i dont really like them. my favorite water though is the icelandic water. would drinking that (or more of it) reduce the need for binders (maybe not eliminate, but reduce the amount that i need) or maybe other benefits such as with the nutrients that my body then has excess amounts of because they arent filtered. i guess im asking if, outside of normal conditions there are actually health benefits to drinking alkaline water?

I'm not buying this as scientific truth or as useful info. Key example...at 9 minutes he says that stomach acid is 2.0 so it destroys the alkalinity in water. Nope. The stomach isn't 2 unless you're digesting food. It doesn't sit there with acid in it waiting for food. There is also a valve called the pyloric valve that opens when food is digested so it goes into the small intestine for absorption. When you drink water and you're not digesting food, the valve opens and allows it to go straight through to the small intestine. Alkalinity is basically minerals,... stomach acid isn't going to destroy minerals. The mixture of stomach acid and minerals will counteract with each other.

Awesome video! So great to know I'm not the only one who can think critically on a basic level. I usually point people to Wikipedia: "Proponents claim that consumption of alkaline water results in a variety of health benefits, making it similar to the alternative health practice of alkaline diets. Such claims violate basic principles of chemistry and physiology. There is no medical evidence for any health benefits of alkaline water." One or two Quacks does not change that. Minor backyard "experiments" do not override basic biological fact. The burden of proof rest completely on those who are making these health claims, and they have not met their burden of proof. I don't care what a few doctors or scientists say, I care exclusively what the consensus of the medical and scientific community says. The Pseudo scientific health claims like this are based on experience alone via the Confirmation Bias and the Placebo Effect, not science. That's why these Kangan marketers only use interviews and ancient interviews with discredited "doctors".

Totally agree on the scam of AlkaLINE water but you should get educated about AlkaLIZED water, which the pH is higher simply as a consequence of the electrolysis process and the health benefits come from hydroxide ions that are truly antioxidant as they lend electrons to neutralize free radicals and h2 molecular hydrogen. AlkaLIZED water is where's at and it cannot be sold in bottles because it is an electric charge so once it leaves its source (hence a machine) the charge only stays present in the water for a few hours of maximum few days depending on the machine you use. No chemicals added. Do your research on that and find multiple scientific studies on electrolyzed reduced water and molecular hydrogen

I think the "logic" behind lemons and vinegar reducing your acidity, or y'know just being healthy, is since they are acidic and vitamin rich (at least the lemons) then your stomach doesn't need to produce as much acid. Your stomach acid is still more acidic than lemons/vinegar BUT relative to the majority of food you consume it is much more acidic. So now you have consumed food with an average PH of 5 instead of 7 so your stomach needs to produce less 2 and digestion is easier. With that said I do not agree with the thought that it will reduce your body PH. But I do like some apple cyder vinegar for easing minor stomach troubles. But that may have more to do with interactions with how your body handles sugar.

So what is the concentration of the HCl produced by the digestive system and does it get into your bloodstream and if it does how does your body prevent it from eating through tissue since, unlike the stomach, there is no mucosa lining on arteries/veins?

Down here in south america we get those precious minerals into our water straight from the tap, what with the rusty old pipelines they use to supply the population with constantly flaking off a little bit of metal into the system.

ZDogg, Would the pH even go to 3-4 for "bullshit" water when it hits the stomach? Maybe for a second, but would the stomach increase acid production to return it to a pH of 2 quickly?

I think some people don't want to admit that the artificial water alkalizing machines which they have purchased for thousands of dollars are not helping them, so then they keep insisting that they are feeling better. Or all other practices which can not show a measurable benefit, are fleecing people. I see people all the time who say their expensive orthopedic insoles are causing them more pain, why is this? When asked, they answer no to all of these: "Did the practitioner palpate your foot?, Did they get you to stand of a gait sensor?, Did they take x-rays?, Ultrasound?, MRI? These are all diagnostic tools to help figure out the issue, if it isn't clearly visible. My policy for people who come to me, is if they can't feel at least a physical muscular/tendon/fascia release or any other benefit from what I do within the next 12hours, then it is probably that my treatment is not what they need, and I try to recommend a practitioner who might be able to help them or suggest doing some research. I also try to give them homework, exercises & stretches. My original study was foot reflexology, but now I find that I pretty much do calf and calf massages-dealing with plantar fascia/Achilles tendinitis-etc, also dealing with the side-affects of dehydration, over-use/tissue fatigue, scarring, emotional-mental-physical stress, improper foot wear, failure to keeping the body limber-stretching, diabetes, edema, etc. I have clients that come to me with all kinds of health issues and I end up trying to encourage them to live healthy, seek relevant medical attention, and to constantly research on new insights on how the body works, and what the best ways to heal it/deal with issue. I am trying to figure out how best to encourage people to implement proven treatments. I don't understand how people can be soo smart with all the research we now have at our fingers tips, but somehow there is a reluctance not to apply this knowledge. The work continues. Thank-you for being frank. Cheers

Alkaline water is a little bit too hyped, but its actually great for 1 thing, which is detox! clinical trials that shown that subjects who drink 2 liters a day in doses of 500 ml every 6 hour have an excelent detox function, i believe the medical term for this new and revolutionary detox is call Micturition

Water in plastic bottles instead of glass bottles? Hm... Energy usage vs. micro plastic fibers. Possibly supporting bad companies through buying that water (which would also be true for certain(/most?) soft drinks). Reusability. Glass bottles for me, but tap water preferred (which is okay in Berlin, Germany). Even the hardness of this water is more of a boon than a disadvantage. Or tea (albeit too much of coffee, still). Thanks anyways for the video.

There is a nub of truth to what these folks are claiming, although it's over interpreted and applied in crazy ways. What you eat does directly influence body acid/base balance but the pH of the food has nothing to do with it. You have to use Stewart Principles or Strong Ion acid base vs the classic Henderson-Hasselbach to "grok" what's going on.

hi Zdogg, I am a new subscriber and love your videos and i have to admit iv'e binged a lot of them. I have a question for you and couldn't find another way. I have been diagnosed with polycthemia vera and was wondering if you could actually explain to me what it is. my pcp doesn't even have the time to tell me what it is, he is in such a hurry to get through the appointment. I am a 41 year old female, an i also have diabetes ( in the last 3 months iv'e lost 25 pounds which puts me in the normal weight range now. my blood counts are: wbc-18,000 rbc:6.45 Hematicric: 55 platelets: 738 and Hemaglobin: 17.7) I am sorry to write such a long comment, but I really would like your rake on this and maybe an explanation if you have the time. I wouldn't ask if I could get even a minute of my pcp's time. thank you

ceecee frasure not ZDogg but if you have PV you really need to be under the care of a hematologist. PV is a blood disorder and is classified as a myeloproliferative disorder (MPD). They are other disorders classified as MPDs also and some patients have mixed diseases. Based on your labs, you should be seeing a hematologist, preferably one who has experience treating PV and other MPDs. I work in hematology/Leukemia so I’m very familiar with these disorders.

Yes, that's alkaliZED water and the health benefits come from the presence of hydroxide ions and h2 gas in the water after it goes through electrolysis. The raise in pH it is simply a consequence of the electrical charge. No chemicals added and truly life changing water.
