The point of these is to be hidden behind some other units so they don't get blocked from ranged attacks... No wonder they're doing poorly alone.

Their stat is also poorer than the other as well. But that is to be expected for balance sake. In exchange for very strong units in the other tier, Castle has squishy range units.

They loose to other range units too and it's not even close.

their damage is also bad they get destroyed by some slow ass trees and 30 hp is so brutal, 1 chain lighting or dozen tower shoots and they gone

I keep them well hidden, by not recruiting them too often. This way they get to stay home and pray 😅😅

They are no melee penalty shooter, so in theory they do stand a better chance against other shooters in melee. HotA AI has changes and improvents, and takes a lot more stuff into consideration when making it's decisions. Most of the time it's great, but sometimes it just brainfarts :D

Are the sides equalised by cost as well or are we just looking at raw production numbers from the buildings? Also the AI that was used seems quite bad, I noticed during the first fight they weren't using the "wait" option to get higher damage shots on the Ents.

AI never waits becouse its dumb. What he should do in these tests is wait on both sides and then start autocombat.
