I finally made my first ever true flies today. So far just a few zebra midges. I didn’t have any black thread so i used dark brown and honestly i think it’s a nice little change. Thank you Tim. You videos have helped me start on my fly tying journey.

Great video. I’m tying these right now in a size 16, but adding thin UV resin to the whole body for added durability.

I started tying flies a month ago. And tonight I tied my first zebra midge and it came out great. I couldn't find 70 denier at the store, so I used what I had on hand. Thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge!

I'm new to fly tying but am really surprised by how much I love it. It is my zen time to shut off work, news, stress, etc. Your videos are great. Nice clear close up camera work and of course that voice is awesome! Soothing and clear. :-) thanks for being my internet instructor. I caught a big beautiful cutthroat already on a red zebra midge I tied. So rewarding! Thank you!

i can scientifically explain why it zens you out. fly fishing has been studied to draw focus and relax the mind in the same way as yoga, it draws all your focus on to a very high precision movement, and forces your mind do blank it's self and focus only on the here and now. fly fishing is, literally, a form of medetation, in the same way as yoga.

Skidin Dingo exactly, I told the guys like a zen fly show then makes me wanna tie lol... But even fly fishing and not catching anything, I'm still zoned in and happy I'm out on the river or perfect stream on a nice day. Still a great reward. And you always can work on any of your own flaws you might have ya know.

I can't seem to find Dai-Riki hooks locally. I'm new to fly tying and am wondering if you can recommend a similar hook in a different brand? Or explain the properties of the Dai-Riki #125 that I should look for? Maybe even a quick video on hook education? Thanks for all your videos, they're great!

The Desert Raider Good substitutes for the the Da-Riki #125 are the Tiemco TMC-2488 or the Daiichi 1130. I have long been a Dai-Riki fan because of variety in the line and the fact that they're such a good value. Some have suggested durability issues, but this has never been a problem for me and I order them by the thousands.

Hi there! After helicoptering the wire the thread gets frayed on the end of the wire as I go to finish the tie. Any advice? It basically catches and separates the fibers on the thread and makes the ship finish ugly, impossible or both!

I've tried all sorts of color combinations over the years but keep coming back to the basic black and silver. It's probably just a confidence thing but I'd swear it works the best.

Guy at fly shop set me up with UNI Thread 72D 8/0W for the black/body. This material breaks off way too easy. Am I using the wrong material? Tried several times, being as gentle as possible but it seems the wind could break this thread. Help!

I generally use smaller beads with smaller hooks. Below 1/16” I often switch over to glass beads like Killer Caddis beads from Wapsi
