--TOOLS + MATERIALS--
Dichrolam is a Dichroic film material which produces a crazy array of colours. It's hard to capture how beautiful these materials look on camera: The sheets look across between dichroic glass and anodised titanium! Dichrolam comes in a variety of patterns that are made to mimic wood figures and burls.

--WOOD VENEER FOR BENT WOOD RINGS--
To make bent wood rings you need to use unbacked/raw wood veneer around 0.6mm thick. This is commonly used in marquetry and should be available in most countries.

This ring took me about 2 hours with a few special tools, but this could be made entirely without power tools. I want to show you that you can make valuable wooden rings without investing an arm and a leg for tools, so I hope this tutorial helps.

Hey Zebrano, huge fan of your work!! not only your skills are amazing but also your attitude makes the videos great, please keep doing them. Maybe you could try static focus mode in your camera, but as I previously said, your attitude makes that a really small detail that you can continuously improve. :)

I did enjoy it. I will comment more. I usually feel uncomfortable commenting. But if it helps you to keep doing bentwood rings I certainly will comment. I think you do absolutely wonderful work. Because of you I have made 1 successful bentwood ring for my wife, and a couple not so successful. Lol You make it look too easy. Thank you for all you post. I believe you mentioned previously you were burnt out from them. Well I for one am encouraged by your work. So thanks again! Sincerly Ed

Hey Zebrano! I really love the rings you make! I made one of my own before I bought a lathe and a dedicated workbench, and even that simple one was enough to impress a local art shop into letting me sell my rings there. Thanks to you, I'm gonna have a nice side hustle doing something I enjoy! P.s., How long do you sand your rings for? 2 - 3 minutes for each grit? Or is it based on feel? Thank you!

Awesome ring can't wait to make it! I'm having trouble with my ca glue durability. My finish often cracks a little after 2 weeks. Any suggestions? Is it just my glue?
@KQKQ23
@KQKQ23 3 жыл бұрын
how do you polish your rings without the lines between your different layers of CA being visible on the final product? I have spoken to many talented pool cue builders all of which no longer use CA glue for that exact reason. It's like you can see where the layers of the inside of the ring and the layers you put on the outside of the ring overlap, and no amount of polishing or buffing can get rid of the lines to make one consistent shine.
@ZebranoWoodCraft
@ZebranoWoodCraft 3 жыл бұрын
Hey man. Tbh I’ve never had that problem. Are they maybe sanding the CA between layers?
@KQKQ23
@KQKQ23 3 жыл бұрын
@@ZebranoWoodCraft I find it happens even when I am not. for example: I put my layers on the inside of the ring, then I put my layers on the sides of the ring, then I put my layers on the outside of the ring. When I go to sand and polish you can see the seamlines of where I did the inside, then the sides, and then the outside, even through the final polish. It's a bit odd!

Nice video! Your videos have inspired me to start making bentwood rings. I'm at a stage where I am attempting more technical designs and wanted to know how you can cut an inlay without a lathe. At present I am marking the center line and using small flies and rasps. However I'm finding them to not be 100% perfect. Is there any other techniques I could use before I go buy a lathe? Ty.
@Rgzmacc420
@Rgzmacc420 3 жыл бұрын
I have seen a few people make the top wood strips thinner and leave the Middle open with only first layer or two completely across. Some of them look pretty decent. As long as your cuts are straight on the two strips it should look pretty good.
