I remember that one time Zee decided to """fix""" a drawing by CreepShowArt. It was a fullbody of a woman wearing two-piece underwear, I believe. Zee did their whole fattening it up, making it dark-skinned, etc. and proceeded to call creepshow's original drawing ugly and unrealistic. The drawing was a commission. Of a real person. Zee was calling a real person's body ugly and unrealistic. What was that thing about "body-positivity"? Hmm...

I'm sorry but females are just born with boobs, having boobs doesn't make you sexualized in any way and neither does the size. I personally come from a family with larger breasts, it's just apart of genes. I don't mind characters like momo because girls can have sizes like that. What does annoy me is the costume they give the character. Go ahead and change the outfit but don't change who the character is. Edit: I see a lot of replies stating that her design is like that because of her quirk which does make sense. I just meant the fan service that comes from her character due to her to quirk and design for that quirk. I know it's a little nitpicky but as a 15 year old it does make me a little uncomfortable when they make those clips and how much skin they showed for her design. But that's just what makes me uncomfortable, I still find her a wonderful character and it doesn't take a way that her quirk is pretty cool. Also I know females aren't born with boobs, they develop and in some cases they don't develop at all. I mean no disrespect by what I said, I hope you all meant my point. As I didn't mean to make people think females are always born with boobs.

Yeah! Like having large breasts doesn't mean that a person is super sexualized but just giving a character (especially a minor) large breats in order to make them seem sexy is just disgusting, but that doesn't mean that the character having a large chest is the problem it's the way that the character is framed

Heyy! I just wanted to explain Krone's character from the Promised Neverland since you haven't seen it (I'm an African American/ black person btw). The pictures you have most likely seen/ the ones you showed are simply exaggerated features for the sake of horror. Otherwise, she looks completely normal in the anime style. She's supposed to be terrifying in those scenes, she's a very crazy and complex character. Also, there are a good amount of black characters in the anime/manga (at least compared to most anime) and they look completely normal and are very cute characters (Phil for instance).

There's a reason why people call doctors "fatphobic." It's because many doctors (at least in America) often automatically ascribe any health problems to "You're too fat. Lose weight, and it'll go away!" without any actual attention paid to what symptoms the person is reporting. You're automatically unhealthy just because you're overweight, so they don't look for possible reasons *why* you have those symptoms outside of your weight. They also don't look for reasons outside of just poor eating habits for why someone is overweight, causing many medical problems to potentially go unnoticed or even be made worse, particularly when they suggest things like drastic calorie cutting (as in, often down to a quarter of what the human body needs to function daily) in an attempt to get the patient to a "healthy" weight. This also actually affects skinny people, who get written off as being perfectly healthy because they're skinny, which again leads to health concerns getting missed or overlooked because that person is "perfectly healthy" based only on what is effectively a beauty standard. Yes, people should aim to be and stay healthy. However, if your only indicator of "healthy" is "be thinner," you're missing a lot of things. Also, diets are inherently unhealthy and unsustainable, as its been shown that the body will eventually not only rebound to previous weights, but also will tend to gain more weight and retain fat more easily as a result. Also, the effects of dieting are actually pretty unpleasant to endure, as you're constantly in a mild state of starvation (the ~2000 calories/day thing is a minimum of what the body needs to function, not a maximum), and thus suffer the effects thereof. I can tell you from personal experience that dropping even a relatively small amount of weight via calorie restriction left me constantly exhausted, constantly cold, suffering chronic severe headaches, and usually unable to focus well. It also didn't last long, as the moment I went from a relatively calm situation to a higher stress environment, I found myself gaining the weight back and then some in a relatively quick time frame.

@@Mokiefraggle That’s all nice and dandy but I’m talking about doctors like Doctor Mike on KZbin who aren’t like that. Yes, you’re correct, but a lot of people fall into the stereotype that if someone explains the health effects of being overweight, they are fatphobic.
@colorbar.s
@colorbar.s 3 жыл бұрын
yeah those two things are... not the same. a LOT of doctors are fatphobic. that's what they're taught and that's what they believe. Too many plus size people are denied proper medical care because their doctors just brush it off as "go lose weight" and not looking into the actual issue. People have died from this. It's a huge issue the great majority of plus size people have had to go through.

If people think that having an ideal feminine figure is all it takes to be labelled "sexualised" then they're missing the mark. You can have a character with that kind of physique but be completely serious and not "fanservicey" in any way. Yaoyorozu from MHA isn't sexualised because of her body, she's sexualised because of 1) her hero costume and 2) Mineta the perv constantly drawing attention to it. I do wish Yaomomo had a different costume, thanks to Mirio we know its possible to make clothing using someone's hair to make it mimic the properties of their Quirk, which could allow the objects to pass through the fabric. Plus there are ways to keep her costume practical for her Quirk without it not only leaving her very vulnerable but also highly sexualised. Just a quick google search will give you dozens of good redesigns that still fit the character well while also being practical.

@Axel Drans Very true. Sorry, when I said "fanservicey" I was trying to say like only being sexy for the sake of appealing to a male demographic, for example Oda has stated before in an interview he only draws women like Nami and Robin in a sexy way is for the enjoyment of his male audience. Fanservice is fine if its just 1 part of the character. Like in Fire Force there's a character who has something called Lucky Lecher Syndrome where she constantly gets into very sexual situations, usually ending up in just her bra and underwear. Despite this, its not played as just fan service but also for comedy, and the character actually has depth and a purpose in the story. I'm pretty sure the author has even said they make everyone, male and female, ridiculously sexy just to make jokes and have fun.

Never had an issue with sister crone from promised Neverland, all the characters have a look to them. Some of them are goofy, If you're going to say it's racist I personally don't think it is. Black or African American women typically have curly beautiful hair. Some of them like it in dreadlocks, some of them like to have it flowy and out in the wind. As for Crone her character isn't racist, I mean watch the show before you start getting critical about it. Edit: Thanks for the support but I must say a few more things because I feel like I have more to add. It's not just about the hair or her lips or anything. African American or Black people have this look to them and it's beautiful, you should be allowed to draw that on people.(not saying this applied to all black people but it's common) many many many times in the show you see creepy or weird angles of the characters like Isabelle, she looks creepy at times and can be extremely terrifying like Crone can be. Hell even Emma (one of the cutie pies in the story) has her moments, when speaking with Ray and Norman. It's a scary show and this will happen from time to time.

Possible spoilers ahead idk if everyone watched/read it to the end Honestly the people who have an issue with Krone sound like they're trying to be angry for no reason. Their arguments are that her character design and traits scream something from a racist ad from the 50s, but all she has is common black traits and trauma. It's like they didn't pay attention to her, or her death scene where they literally play out the more important parts of her life for everyone to see. Yes her design seems a bit too exaggerated, but it's far from racist.

Why people think that about Sister Krone from Promised Neverland? Well I'm not into the anime but I finished the manga long ago and Krone character was super cool (she had a good development I love her side-history). The "ugly" faces she make is because PN is a Terror/horror Anime and and distorting her face in some panels was just a tool to convey the feeling of horror that the author wanted to convey. (Not only she had a "ugly" distorcion, other characters are like that too in various panels). I'm particularly not a fan from the early PN design (everbody was ugly and big head lol), I think in the end of the history the mangaka did a better job, but I'm really surprised that people thought Sister Krone desing was racist. (I'm from Brasil, sorry for any error and if what I said sound strange or hard to understand, my English is still improving)

All children there get raised to be killed and fead to some monsters that rule the outside world. The only way to escape that fate is to become a "mom" and work for said monsters in said farms (raising the children till they get shipped off and stuff). Krone decidet to become a mom, left all her friend behind from which she knew they would die, had to go through years of intense schooling and training, had a chip implanted that would kill her if she leaves the farm when she was only 12, had (most likely, it's never directly said) a child that got taken away and put into one of those farms, and ultimately lost her mind while trying to become the best "mom" for a bunch of children that where signed up to be killed. When she finally thought she could reach her goal, it turned out that she had no chance becouse Issabela (the other mom) is a favorite of "grandma" (practically there boss) and Krone was killed trying to defend herselfe. Oh, btw all the things she had to go through are the same things other moms like Isabella had to go through too. It just took a biger tool on her.

(long rant) honestly, in my opinion as a fellow artist, i think it's admirable and 'fun' to do art in your own style since it can give a sense of exposure to different artists about different styles, and it can be cute. i don't think zee's art is bad, some of it is honestly pretty cute to me. i just think that if someone were to change the race or weight of a character for the sole purpose of basically the 'do this in your style' or whatever, it's considerably not that bad! it gives a sense of diversity and how the individual characters can change/differ when their overall style is change. but, if someone were to change the entirity of a character, change their race (blackwash, whitewash, etc) and their weight and call it *fixing* is just disrespectful to the original artist and it's pretty much saying their (zee's) art style is superior to all other versions of that character. as she redraws a lot of characters from animes, blackwashes them and makes them considerably 'big', and says she's "fixing" them, i don't think she truly understands that these are asian characters and that a lot of asian women look like that. take her redraw of momo from bnha/mha, for example. unsurprisingly enough, a lot of japanese women have a similar bodytype to momo, yet she calls it 'sexualizing'. if she actually watched the anime, she'd understand that momo needs her skin exposed in order to use her quirk. not to mention that heroes should mantain a healthy body mass, and girls in japan (who are skinny enough as it is) just keep on wanting to get slimmer and slimmer. it's not very normal seeing obese/big japanese (specifically women) people. i think the main thing is is that zee generally thinks there's one body type that (from what i see her saying n shit) is the normal/correct body type; big, black and hairy. it's not like every person in anime has to be big or black. again, a lot of redraws she does is of anime characters, and they're based off of women in japan, where they're very small, very skinny, pale and mostly clean shaven (note; because zee usually draws them with a lot of leg hair). that's the "norm" for women in japan. it's not sexual, it's not racist, it's not fatphobic, it's normal. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Yes! about the promised neverland character: I really think you should give the show a shot. It actually has a healthily diverse cast of characters. The character you called a racist caricature (which, from those pics I can see why), is actually a really interesting character with a deep, sympathetic backstory. She also happens to be a villainous genius and is presented as intimidating and untrustworthy so those pictures aren't made to make fun of black people but to show how scary and sinister she is. I don't think that the Japanese are as sensitive to awkward depictions of black people because they don't have the racist disney/warner bros era of animation in their culture.

I don't think the art from Promised Neverland was racist. I've read it, and I believe the author exaggerates the art to highlight the events of the story or like when the evil character is explaining their evil plan huehuehue.

Im laughing like crazy rn I saw one of these redesigns for a character I know named ellie rose captioned "I drew her but she's no longer sexualized!" but here's the thing the original character is a *stick figure* *how do you think a stick figure is sexualized-*

I have an oc that is plus size, if you do not understand what I mean by this, I mean that they are in huge gigantic massive quotation marks fat. I even have other characters who aren’t skinny, this is because I am okay with people who are not considered in shape. These characters are okay with who they are and do not have any problems with the body type/shape they are. I also did this to show representation with body types. But this is not the why to do it, to say you are “unsexualizing” them is racist and hurtful to people who are plus sized. I’m not saying you can’t draw a character plus sized, just don’t label it as that and label it as adding diversity (if the show/anime/movie only has skinny and buff people). Heck even make your own OCs, and then make them plus sized or not inherently skinny. Just don’t do this

I find it really annoying that Zee changes characters to make them skinny, coloured or hairy, not that I’m against that, but even though I’m not a professional in character design, I can see how a characters body type, skin colour and chest size often plays a part in their story and culture.

That Momo drawing haunts my nightmares. small rant (maybe bc I'm 17 and a Momo kinnie, but I digress): Not only is she Asian, but the "fix" is stripping her personality and her reasons for her hero costume. That just makes me irritated. People tend to forget that the kids pick out and design their own costumes. This is especially evident when you think about how ugly Todoroki's first costume was. The kids in my hero academia are training to be heroes, so they're constantly put in athletic situations, meaning that a lot of them are more muscular than anything else. If you watch the show, in like the first 7ish episodes she ends up accidentally destroying her clothes bc she's making something large from her back to protect her friends. She also pulls out weapons from her arms and hands, meaning those have to be exposed. She also creates non-weapon items from her chest. People tend to criticize how she has a book with her at all times, but she can only make things if she understands their molecular makeup. She's one of the most powerful people in the class (she's number one in academics and always ranks in like the top five for combat). She has amazing combat sense, quick thinking, and can put into place successful plans immediately. People diminish her because they say she's sexualized. If you really think about it, those people that only focus on thinking she's sexualized, sexualize her. Hope I made sense. rant over.

I feel like I already kinda knew that they were being for real, I've seen more people than you would like to think, similar to them. Even though I think we can all tell that they don't try their best to redraw characters or 'fix' they put a lot of effort into drawing many characters and being pretty active on social media. Have any of you seen other artists similar to them before?
@LassieRoad

I’ve unfortunately seen way too many artists like Zee over on Tumblr. It makes me sad to see the wasted potential these artists had. Like they could be creating their own POC characters, characters that actually show representation and have their own personalities, but instead, they “fix” already existing characters, pushing stereotypes to the max and barely even trying.

@@LassieRoad Yeah, I know. I actually really like their color pallette, they just need to focus on the basics of anatomy and put more effort into their work, than again they might want to make their art their career or get money from it, and if that's the case I think it's fine if they don't want to improve. But yeah, I totally agree with you on them actually making their own Original Characters. Maybe they're just not that creative? Lol!

tbh i dont care if you give characters a redesign. it can be a great way to give more personality to a character or get some representation if you really need it but when there's a pattern like this 👀 . i am the first to advocate for outfit changes, body type changes, sexuality headcanons, and race changes or whatever but there is a line like omg. i feel like they don't realize that in their advocating, they are being SUPER harmful, fatphobic, and racist. they are the exact things they hate hahahaha

I---okay, it's like saying sexualisation of women is reduced to how they are drawn. Having hot characters isn't the problem, the problem is that men feel entitled to those bodies, and objectify sexuality. Women like seeing other sexy women and feeling sexual, so by covering up those characters you're saying "the way to escape objectification is to stop having a sensuality". A sensual design is okay if there are also more aspects to their personality and design, both for male and female characters.

Honestly, if she wanted to "desexulize" a character she should have just give them proper clothing, not changing their bodyweight/type and changing their skin color! It's hypocritically fatphobic and racist, it makes her look like she's literally saying that being fat and/or having darker skin doesn't make you look attractive!

I don't like the idea of changing existing white characters to black characters for the idea of representation. Give them their own stories, that represent them better!! It's always been strange to me that people do stuff like that for brownie points, when they could create an original story about a character that was black or queer or plus sized, and give the world something new to enjoy while also creating representation. Writing a story with no idea where it ends will make the beginning not connect well with the rest of the story. Changing a race of a character after they've been something else since forever will only make the story they're in more confusing. Create new black characters, they're their own people, not just derivatives of the white people that already exist. Give them their own stories instead of taking the used-up, hand-me-down stories we're all tired of.

I have problems mostly with the ig 'desexualising' art fixes they make. One, having a certain body type doesn't make it sexualised, the clothing their wearing does, if you want to desexualise something, give them different clothes, not a different body shape. And two, isn't it basically saying that poc and overweight people are unattractive? By desexualising characters by making them overweight and poc, your basically saying that overweight and poc can't be sexy/attractive.

Your definitely my favorite artist on this platform your art is beautiful and on top of that you give in-depth arguments and talk about important topics and stay calm and collected, you always try to prevent hate whilst criticing the original content. In its simplistic form your an actually decent person who cares about others and has a balanced amount of empathy, which is surprisingly rare on the internet 😊

you know, I like seeing characters of all kinds of body types and skin tones (if they make sense for the setting, and don't racebend canon character cause that's a whole other issue), but plus-size white people exist. I am one. (I have breathing issues that make exercising difficult and I stress eat, which, having anxiety, i'm stressed a lot) you don't have to be black to be fat. You *can* be both, yeah, but you don't have to be both to be one or the other
