Amazing review. I'm finally getting in the market for some cine glass and am leaning towards these CP.3 because of the amount of travel/solo work I do. At @8:05 what are you using to focus? I'm on the sony FX9/A1 System and use all sony GM glass at the moment so I'd need to invest in a focus system for these, anythign you recommend?

Nice piece….worked on the olympics with the CP 2s and was so impressed with them I went out and bought two CP 3s and looking to buy a 3rd. Great lenses that fit beautifully in my hands.

First off, that's a great spot you shot. Just that one main big ass key light pretty much? Damn it looks cinematic. Also can I ask who makes that side handle? I want it about as bad as these lenses.

I am about to make lens purchases. I am new to this game and did not know I could change a PL mount to an E mount on the lens itself! I shoot with a Red, a c200, and an a7 III. Wow, it could work with all of those! However, I am considering the Rokinon Xeens because they have a wider aperture and no Super Speed for the cp 3 line yet. Hmmm your thoughts? And should I change the lens mount or just use an adapter when going to different camera bodies?

Nice video, I need an advice looking for step up from Canon L lenses for my corporate and doc work I'm ready to spent 7.000 dollars in lenses, lookin for a nice lens good long focus throw, creaminess, sharpness and build quality. Milvus 18mm 35mm 85mm could be option #1, Sigma cine FF 20mm 85mm option #2, Nisi Cine 24mm 50mm 100mm #3 and Three second hand Zeiss Cp.2s. What you Oliver think?

well given that zeiss updated the classic lenses: 25mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm in their photo line to the milvus, i assume that we'll see updated super speeds in the cp3 set really soon plus a new 25mm super speed.

A Zeiss expert responded to this same question on B&H, see his answer below: "Like any cinema lens, the ZEISS Compact Prime CP.3 do not accept screw-in filters. Instead, filtration is provided via matte boxes and cut filters."

Tell me again how the lens matters in low light.......? You said that it pushed a crystal clear image regardless of that. But.... really, the lens doesn't affect light intensity beyond aperture. The rest is up to the sensor. But it looks nice and sharp. Would love to see how they fit together as a series. One could speculate that Zeiss at some point would steal old prime lens tech and rebrand it cheaper. Too bad about the crop in the 18.

Yes you're correct it is really all up the sensor. I suppose what I was trying to say that the lens, even at t/2.9, is still fast enough to take advantage of low light situations and provide detail from edge to edge with no vignetting. Good point though, I should have made my point more clear! Thank you for your comment.

I think one big difference on these is that they're supposed to sharp wide open where the original CP's got really soft. So that would be a big difference in that they are in fact better in low light because you don't need to stop down a bit in order to maintain sharpness.

Yes they maintain sharpness edge to edge when wide open, the chromatic aberration is increased slightly from t2.1 - t4 but it is marginal and well acceptable in real world scenarios and viewing environments.

Oliver, I really enjoyed watching this video. Superb lighting, 95% out of a top notch editing, imaginative composition and your incredible talent to conduct a viewer throughout its whole length into a truly comprehensive learning voyage. When the video was finished I was acquainted with all the matters about the CP.3 that I longed for. I was so pleased to have discovered your blog. I have a question on the technical side of those Zeiss lenses, Oliver: All of the handheld extreme close-up shots made me feel a bit annoyed with the on and off focus precision. They conveyed a kinda of a surreal imagering. I cannot imagine that that was your scripted objective and, thus, can only think that such obnoxious result was caused by the CP.3¨s own light ratio max 2.1 limitation, which shortens the latitude of the DOF. I guess that should a CP.2 1.4 be used instead, even at 2.1 the DOF latitude wouldn¨t be so compromised. Am I saying some non sense here? Please correct me, Oliver if I am wrong. Finally, if I may ask, Oliver, please tell us about your initial reaction to the upcoming Panasonic S1-H, supposedly a video centered camera with all the features of the Sony A7R IV and more...
