Me too when I started dipping into binoculars. It is amazing how nice they are to look through when you pay more than $40 for them...

If you are ok with smaller binoculars, you can opt for the Zeiss Terra 8x25 for $299, they are in an entirely different league, and are light years beyond the full sized Zeiss Terras. They are made in Japan by Kamakura, and their optical performance rivals $1000 binos.

Optics quality comes with a price for a reason. If use want a good one start with a SLC 8x42.
