I bought the game on many recommendations from my friends when I got my switch, and after putting maybe 8 hours in I couldn’t understand what everyone was seeing that I was missing. @ 5:50 ironically there exists such a system within Zelda skyward sword with the shields. If your shield is damaged or broken, then you can take it to the scrapper at Skyloft. He will repair your shields or upgrade most of your weaponry as long as you possess the necessary materials to do so. That system encouraged me to utilize my shield more wisely, rather than just to not use it at all due to a fear of it been broken forever. Now, I have not played botw, but If this is true, I have no idea why they stripped this from botw.

I played it a bunch. And have been playing it recently again. I never liked how fast the weapons break, the biggest reason probably being how the master sword works. I didn't play the game at launch and don't know low long the dlc took to come out but 30 damage and runs out of energy ruins the whole concept of the sword. Then I was bummed it still ran out of energy after doing all of the trials of the sword. But 60 damage and it lasts quite a while was better. Early game the wooden weapons break really fast but I was just playing earlier and you take one club. 4 damage. You can kill 3 bokoblins and that's 3 weapons right there. So where it starts to be the most annoying is later game where to kill a lynel will break 3-4 weapons sometimes to get one good one. Not so bad after the trial of the sword. I hoard things when there's really no reason to sometimes. I played on switch and a Cemu. On Cemu I used x3 durability and infinite arrows and halfway through the game I realized I'd never use any elemental arrows even though I had infinite arrows on the whole time. So in a way sometimes you hate the game when you just hate how you play it.

The only thing I really dislike about the game is how fast your weapons break. On my first play through I thought that the master sword never broke and you could use it indefinitely, so I sunk in the time grinding for it. BotW is a great game but in retrospect it does feel a bit unfinished when compared to other Zelda titles. It's kind of a hugely successful experiment, and because of the hype around it a lot of fans can't acknowledge that it has a lot of flaws like you pointed out. I can agree with everything you've said in this video and I could list a lot more, like the poor enemy variety, the almost non-existent story and its questionable execution, the lack of interesting bossfights, almost no memorable characters, sidequests that were way too short and downright unnecessary, etc etc. I hope Tears of the Kingdom will improve upon these flaws and not blindly try to be a successor to BotW only because it was successful and caters to the mainstream.

This is a well balanced series of criticisms, and many of them mirror my own thoughts. Loved the game overall, but the sequel needs to change some things up or it will not land as well for me. For starters, I would love them to make the melee combat something like Hyrule Warriors. Just a smoother and deeper experience. I also totally agree on this game missing criticisms that it deserves. Metro Last Light caught so much deserved criticism for charging for their hard mode, which was the best way to enjoy the game for core fans. Milking your core audience is a crap practice but it's what Nintendo does all the time, and with hardly any criticism.

Lol bro I feel the same way, I've been playing zelda since super Nintendo and although I don't think it's the worse one its pretty much up there with the worse. I understand that's the nostalgic part of me but it just never once Drew me in or got me truly invested in the characters because they were barely present or significant. It was just an overall meh story and they focused to much on the open world aspect than the actual game. Also the dungeons were just boring sometimes, they were shrines but come on let's get some ocarina/Wildwater type dungeons in their but obviously make them better. @Zarox88112 жыл бұрын
I don’t think this is the best game ever; however, I do think Breath of the Wild was revolutionary in the history of video game development, and overall created a new perspective towards the open-world genre. The game is designed to allow players of all skill sets (whether you’re new to video games, open world games, or have years of gaming experience under your belt) to explore a vast world with various environmental challenges. It’s one of the few open world games I’d consider “truly flexible,” since there are very few creative limits- especially when compared to the open world games that came before BotW’s 2017 release. As for weapon durability (which may seem like a limit at first), I’m probably throwing myself into a minority when I say that the weapons breaking is something good about the game. It forces players to critically think about what else they can use in the surrounding environment given they don’t have a sword or shield or bow. Can they use bombs? Or maybe a rock? Maybe they need to drown their enemies? Or freeze them. The possibilities go on, and it’s the most creative thinkers who will find new angles when facing problems. As for dialogue, fast travel, and repetitive shrines/koroks, I can agree with you there. Sometimes, I want to skip the dialogue of an NPC if they’re saying the same thing over and over again. It can be a bit frustrating when you can’t. A lot of the shrines look the same, which makes them feel bland when compared to the rest of the map. Your first few shrines are exciting and fun… But after about 10, they can get really boring. The koroks (although cute and fun to find) mostly require you to solve the same puzzles, but simply marked at a different location. It’s tedious (and specifically the ones where you have to shoot the fast moving balloons are annoying). For fast travel, I simply don’t use it in most cases. If there’s a shrine I’ve found, but haven’t completed yet, then I’ll sometimes use fast travel to get there. It’s not a mechanic you’re required to use, but do have the luxury if wanted. So it’s not really that much of a game flaw. Overall, Breath of the Wild is one of the best open-world games. It allows not only for players to interact with their environment, but also explore in unique ways. Unlike most other open world games, Breath of the Wild has few boundaries when it comes to overcoming obstacles. There’s hardly ever a “wrong way” to complete a task or challenge. Now, let me point out that I said “one of the best OPEN WORLD” and not “the best RPG” or “the best Zelda game.” The innovative and explorative mechanics this game has to offer makes it an outstanding open-world- but it’s these same aspects that can make the world also feel empty or repetitive sometimes. Yes, there are beautiful scenic routes that can be very peaceful… but that can also be seen as “there’s nothing to do here.” Yes there are LOTS of puzzles, but a majority of them are repeats scattered across the map. This game isn’t without flaws (no game is), but as a game where players are still discovering new glitches, combat techniques, and experimenting other mechanics 5 years AFTER the game’s release, I’d say it’s a very solid game that’s definitely worth experiencing.

Botw gets a free pass for including a hard mode in a paid dlc simply because the game is already a masterpiece and anyone who plays the hard mode will have an entirely new experience that is dozens or hundreds of hours long. Other games don’t get a free pass because most of them aren’t non linear gameplay and a open world sandbox. If a story game like Detroit become human asks me to pay money for a hard mode then fuck that. It barely changes the experience.

I am at my second round with BOTW with almost 60 hours spent and haven't gone even once to the Castle. I still consider BOTW the goat. It still is because no other game is able to give you a coherent world, with natural elements playing such an important role in the gameplay in almost each possible gaming session. revolutionary is Nintendo's wise use of verticality through climbing. the ability to reach each visible place enhances the will to explore. you are rewarded not with the last ultimate weapons, but with an endless sense of freedom while enjoying romantic and dramatic views: i don't know how many times i just stopped for a couple of minutes just watching mountains and dragons. walking, fighting, climbing, swimming, flying, riding your horse is the experience and essence of the game itself it is all so well combined and balanced. That said, there are some flaws, but none all the one you mentioned are relevant for me. i like the weapon deteriorating system. I am ok with the shrines. But I dislike the poor quality of the dungeons (OOT where are you) as well as all the ganon battles. the last is really the worst. that said again, it doesn't change my opinion of the first part of this comment. Unless you use a guide, you will not be getting the full narrative in chronological order, which makes it even less interesting. 2. I don’t think it’s the greatest game of all time, but it’s probably the best “open world” experience I’ve ever had (though I’m yet to play Elden Ring so that may change). The narrative and the progression systems left a bit to be desired though.

There are too many amazing games to list, and a lot of those will be on the "GOATED" list depending on who you ask, including the ones you posted (although Morrowind is better than Daggerfall imo) Some more are MGS1 and 3, Mass Effect 2, Halo 2 and 3 (Honestly 1-Reach for that matter) Resident Evil 2, Elden Ring, Dark Souls 1, The Last of Us Part 1, Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask, Devil May Cry 3 and 5, DOOM 1 and Eternal, Super Mario Galaxy, and many more. BOTW did revolutionize open world games, or at the very least put them back on the right track, emphasizing exploration and player freedom rather than directed on where to go, such as Far Cry and Horizon. It should be recognized for that

@Respawnedgaming2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the open mindednesses! I enjoyed BOTW. I probably didn’t highlight that I enjoyed too much it in this video, but it was good. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else seemed to. That’s a hard one, GOAT vs favourite are two separate things for me because my favourite game ever is Fallout 4, which probably wouldn’t be in most peoples top 10 and I can see why. As for GOAT, it’d have to be RDR2 or maybe Witcher 3. Skyrim is up there. These are the four games I always come back to. Thanks for watching the video man!
@empyrealeagle4766 Жыл бұрын
@@Respawnedgaming I agree that RDR2 is definitely one of the GOAT's, but I also have to point out that it still has a lot of flaws and things that could've been done better. If BOTW can't be considered GOAT because it has "too many flaws" then neither can RDR2 or any of those games mentioned. Even the greatest games have a lot of things they could've done better. It is hard to truly measure and say definitively what is more GOAT. What one person considers to be a downside to a game, might be an upside for another. This all being said, even the greatest games deserve plenty of criticism. I really only see pointing out the flaws as a positive action. Pointing out what needs improvement is an important step to making these great games even greater.

Once you get your paraglider, you’re free to literally do anything you want. You've done well playing it twice. I quit at the Volcano. 20-25hrs in and the exploration was very repetitive and stale, I'd 'seen one, seen them all' when it came to shrines, they just seemed to be increasing in difficulty, not mechanics, the open world was empty & lifeless and the side quest/characters were non existent. Possibly the most overrated game I've played. The opening is breath taking (no pun intended), the visuals are stunning, but the rest was tedious after 15 or so hours. A mile wide and inch deep.

To me at least, the greatest game of all time isn't the game with the least flaws but the game that's just...the best. The difference there was there wasn't nearly as much empty space as there is in BotW
