You absolutely should NOT buy Alan Wake Remastered! The original is a classic and all that was required was a fresh lick of paint, remastering the original to the visual standards of today.
Not only did D3T apply the bare minimum when remastering the original Alan Wake but the also introduced a range of immersion and game breaking bugs, that are NOT found in the original! The most recent update in January 2022 fixed a few, while introducing more bugs and Alan Wake Remastered has seemingly been shelved by D3T and the original developers Remedy, meaning players are left with all the immersion shattering bugs.

I just bought this as well as a huge fan of the OG, thought now was the time to fit in a replay for cheap and holy crap is it busted with all the artifacting. I never would have thought I'd need to check if it was any good to buy since the original was great. Wish I'd found this sooner. I still have the original on steam.

On xbox series x sometimes the game freezes so you have to restart the whole thing and if you skip ONE cutscene, there is a high chance that the audio/voices will be off within the next few cutscenes...

I can even play the original. I have the GOG & Steam versions, both won't launch! (Playing on a Win 11 OS) Compatibility mode failed... Do I have to download a patch?

Currently at 23% game progression and I still can't say I'm liking it instead I feel nauseated sometimes playing it and had to stop every now and then and switch to other games. I did love Control UE and never had this kind of problem and kept me engaged from start to finish.

I just bought the OG on PC for $4.... runs perfectly at 4K on my potato PC (much better than backwards compatibility). I Don't know why I skipped it when it came out con 360. What an amazing game!

I did not play the original back in the day, i did however play Max payne 1 and 2, as well as Control. Knowing about Alan Wake 2 release being imminent i thought about giving this remaster a shot before playing the upcoming sequel. I Agree that the face models are awful, and it controls like shit, I don't love the enemy death animations but then again i did not have the OG ones to compare to. I also think that the color palette is a bit dull and does not convey that horror story feel you mentioned. Playing in xbox one I did not experience any game breaking bugs, but i do have problems with voice tracks becoming unsynched and once some bug caused all the foliage to get a wrong texture like static on a TV screen which was awesome. All in all I rate it as a generally enjoyable experience but I'd rather have played the original, for sure.

I was really interested in playing this when it was released but I'm not a fan of this game not much ammo and enemies just respawn and even trying to run you run out of energy and they kill you and you can't move I couldn't play it in the end which sucks

Once in awhile I think about buying this because it's cheap now but when I heard it's not even optimized for series X and the gameplay didn't change then what's the point? There was nothing wrong with the game anyway.

Yeah they have this on the essentials which is all I got. Because I don't do digital gaming much at all and the only reason I have it is because PlayStation locks their Cloud behind a paywall and I got it for a year for like 30 bucks. So luckily I didn't pay anything added for it. I'm honestly not buying Alan Wake 2 because it's digital-only and I will never ever ever by digital.. But Alan Wake remaster is a very weak remaster. Definitely not to crazy of a difference. I wouldn't call this a remaster I would call this a Alan Wake refresh

It's a definitive nobuy for Ryzen cpu owners though. The game suffers from vertex explosions, flashing lights/shadows, artifacting when fade to cutscene happens and black screens and the only way to partly alleviate these issues is to set your monitor's refresh rate to 60 and enable vsync thus nerfing the game's performance severely. After 2 years of ryzen owners reporting this issue it completely fell on deaf ears. They have abandoned this game.

I got it for free when buying AW2 and I still feel cheated. Thought I'd replay it before starting the sequel. First time I launed the game, it tried detecting my hardware, failed, said my PC wasn't powerful enough ( I have an RTX 4080 and 5900x... ) so they didn't even bother to add something to detect recent hardware, then the game went into a weird resulotion and only displayed 1/4 of the screen, and I had no control on anything, had to alt+F4. Restarting the game fixed the issue and I could access the options and start the game, played for a few minutes, black polygons appearing everywhere on screen, and white, blinding flashes, then I saw the weird death animations of the enemies floating in the air and gave up. No wonder Epic keeps this shit on their store, it would get shredded by the fans in the Steam reviews. Unbelievable that they don't fix anything. Fuck Epic and the studio who made that remaster.

Bugs aside, it looks you expected way too much out of a remaster “promised so little with a minimal improvement over the original” (as opposed to a remake). TLOU remake or Demons Souls being a good example of a remake job from the ground up.

That's a shame that Alan Wake still has so many bugs on PC. I'll still play it one day as I never played the original and really dug Control. Having said that, I finished Horizon:Forbidden West and am one achievement away from the plat. Now I just have to learn how to play Machine Strike for the trophy...or task my 12 year old son to do it. 😅

I can’t comment on console versions, other than reading through the other console players complaining of bugs in the Alan Wake subreddit. If the console version bugs are fixed then the remaster is the way to go (for the 60fps) but the weird levitating bug alone was enough for me to ask for a refund on PC! Every enemy did it!

I just finished a playthrough of the remaster on PS5 and thankfully didn't stumble on any bugs, but I could have just gotten lucky, hopefully it's fixed enough for people to have an immersive experience because I can really see why people loved that game when it came up and it still holds up pretty nicely today with a new fresh set of paint.@@Respawnedgaming

There's nothing wrong with it on console. He's wrong about this one. It's still a great game. One of my favorites. It has a lot of improvements. It's not perfect but if you want to cry about shit? Then take this guy's word. Trust me it's worth it. The frame rate alone is worth it. Just because he had issues doesn't mean you will. This seems like nit picking to me.

I didn't get any of the problems you had on series x but i do regret buying as it was just a higher resolution version. At lesst it was 20 quid and not full price. I'll never buy another remake or remaster, it's just rewarding them for laziness. We need new great games of the same quality as alan wake free of woke nonsense. I'll be surprised if the sequel isn't ruined by leftist propaganda.
