Zelda Theorist Reacts to Tears of the Kingdom Opening

There is a bit of dialogue you missed from Zelda. Nothing major, but she talks about how she asked her father about what was beneath the castle. All he told her was that noone-- not even a member of the royal family-- is to set foot down there. It was a rule passed down through countless generations. However, none among them even knew what was down there to necessitate such a rule.

I have three theories about where Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom takes place within the timeline (or outside it). Theory 1: An unknown event took place that reset everything back to Ocarina of Time and erased all three timelines, thus ushering in a brand-new timeline that led to Breath of the Wild. Think in terms of Flashpoint and Crisis on Infinite Earths to some extent. Theory 2: Breath of the Wild is actually another timeline, the very first in fact (although technically 4th if going by when the games were made). One that branched off after the events of Skyward Sword, meaning that what happened at the end of Ocarina of Time was not the first time this has happened. Theory 3: This is simply a whole other universe not connected to any of the old games. A reboot with its own history.

The more I go through the game and learn more, the more I think it's either one of those, or Hyrule's "founding" by the Zonai is really a re-founding, and takes place after the last game in the timeline it is in, after Hyrule falls. Whatever the case, Nintendo needs to be real careful with this or they'll throw the whole series into contradiction.

My opinion they only have to do one thing to make botw and totk have a real place in the timeline make hyrule warriors canon that will explain the metions of all three timelines in botw

one thing I have been thinking about, there was not just one imprisoning war, the events prior to skyward sword, when demise first erupted, this could be from then and not the imprisoning war around Ocarina.

This Imprisoning War is a whole different one, the one in A Link to the Past tells the Story of Ganondorf getting the Full Triforce and being locked up in the sacred realm to prevent him becoming stronger. This Imprisoning War tells the story of a Ganondorf stealing one of these "Tears" and becomming Godlike

Those "tears" are called magatama and are japanese stones.

@@DarthDragon007 The thing is that the Triforce still seems to have some limits, for example he could not just *wish* himself out of the sacred realm for some unexplained reason. And the Hero of Legend faced him with the Master Sword (while it wad upgraded). The A Link to the Past Manual claims that the Master Sword repells any evil, including the magic from the Triforce when controled by evil. Meaning even if Ganondorf became fully allmighity with the Triforce, the Hero still has a chance to stop him.

If you advance further in the game, you realize the tear he stole was much more important than the rest... He stole the tear from Queen Sonia, the sage of time, which meant he had the power to go backwards in time. And so he used it to turn himself into his very first incarnation, the demon king, which means...yup, demise is back.

I’d argue, it’s safe to assume, that what they called Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild, was more like an Omen, than actually Ganon. Judging by what we saw in the beginning of Tears of the Kingdom and what has been implied by the trailers, Ganon was sealed under Hyrule Castle and the Malice (or Gloom) seeping out of Ganon manifested itself, after brooding below Hyrule castle for thousands of years, hollowing out Hyrule itself in the process.

As far as I can tell, the Hyrule featured in TotK and in BotW is an entirely separate, tangentially related kingdom that was founded by the Zonai King Rauru some time after the previous kingdom fully collapsed. Like, some absolutely catastrophic event happened that decimated Hyrule and left the populace scrambling for survival. The previous events in the timeline obviously still happened as we remember them (the Gorons know of Darunia, Darmani and Gor Coron; and the Zora know the tale of Sage Ruto; and the OoT/TP Temple of Time is still sitting in old Castle Town on the Great Plateau), so the Zonai descrnding obviously happened after everything we know. The Zonai, who were clearly aware of the events below (Maybe the God Tribe mentioned in Skyward Sword?), descended and refounded the kingdom once the destruction following the catastrophe finally died down to managable levels.

Idk why most theorists/players who really know their lore when they name drop "gloom" they rebuke it immediately as "Malice". Like, yes, it's obvious that the gloom is connected to Malice but how would this Zelda know that? The dark stuff in BOTW is referred to as The Calamity and its connected to Calamity Ganon but no one refers to it as Malice.

To me gloom is just fresh/pure malice directly from Ganondorf, while malice us decayed gloom or smth

After breath of the wild and now TotK and knowing things, I’m agreeing with, it all links, but in the form of “A Legend”. There’s a reason the series is called that way and why certain things seem either retconned or altered. As a story passes on from generation to generation, things never come out the same as how it really happened. Like the circle whisper game. Finding the tunics etc and grabbing every bit of lore, the stories or legends must’ve happened in some way or another. But when we play ocarina of time for instance then that is the story. When events from ocarina are mentioned in a game millennia after ocarina, at that point ocarina has changed into a story of legend. So it’s all linked and all one royal bloodline, all the same spirit of the hero, only the stories alter due to past time and altered tales of legend. And I do think that is a very cool idea although it would’ve been cool to see a story that does directly tie in to on of the oldies. Like when a lot of us thought this was ganondorf from ocarina/twilight princess because of the garb and the apparent wound on his chest. But this is a great great story and an 11/10 game for me. Only game that gave me the same feeling ocarina of time did back when I was a kid 💯💪

There is some paradox stuff going on here because how do the Hylians exist when the Zonai descended from the skies if they were a production of both Hylians and Zonai in the first place?

On BOTW, I always loved getting Luminous Stones, but mainly because of the fact that, in bulk, they actually sell somewhat well. Kinda miss that game.

This game prpetty much is a reboot, all of this contradicts Skyward Sword Theorist need to stop thinking about timelines, they don't matter anymore

Yes and no imo. What came before will always be important, but they certainly won't feel the pressure to be consistent with everything that was established beforehand. Zelda has always been willing to retcon important details when the need arose, but was also willing to follow the set lore when possible.
