I am from the former soviet block , Bulgaria to be precise. I praise the day we joined NATO and the EU.I still remember in 96/97, I was 6 at the time during the winter months, where I could not fall asleep due to the constant hunger me and my family had to endure, caused by Zhan Videnov's BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party). BSP was/is the continuation of the communist party during that time. The integration process after joining the EU was not good, we have tons of corruption, most of the current politicians are sons and daughters of the former communist party members, most of them act/are the big mafia in this country and Russia is pouring MILLIONS of dollars into buying politicians and spreading propaganda and lies about the west... But and that is a BIG but it's still better than what I remember growing up and I can't imagine how much worse it would be if we had to remain under Russian oppression. I know there are a lot of problem places in the world but for me and my region Putins Russia is the boogy man that wants to steal your children, your natural resources and your hope for the future.

I dont understand why so many people in America talk shit about Zelensky? He seems like he actually gives a damn about his people and country. He didn't run to the safety of another country at his first opportunity, he stayed and helped his people. Id love America to have a president like him, unlike the two scumbags we just got to pick from.

I'm certainly not a huge Trump fan, but I'm also certainly not a weeping progressive who thinks he is equivalent to Hitler. As far as I am concerned, Ukraine is the fulcrum about which Trump's presidency hangs. If he can show he is strong against Putin and in supporting Ukrainian independence, then he can be a success, if not then he cannot.

The American people elected Trump to take care of our own borders, deport illegals, solve our own economic problems, etc. Most of us aren't judging him on whether he solves Russia/Ukraine. So, I guess you can judge Trump based on whatever criteria you want, but most of us care more about a lot of other things.
@stuffandnonsense8528

@Entropy825 I have no doubt that many people are selfish and shortsighted, but a view being held by many people doesn't make it right. The point of liberal democracy isn't rule by a majority (as many people often mistakenly believe), it is rule by rational debate, compromise and consent. If you believe that we have responsibilities at all beyond our own selfish desires and needs, then we are in agreement. An elected leader of a state is the representative of that group, and the responsibilities of a group should be an extension of the responsibilities of individuals (unless you are a communist/collectivist who believes that the group has distinct ethical importance beyond individual ethics - I am not). So, if you think that someone who walks past someone in the street who is being bullied has a responsibility to do whatever they can (within reason) to stop that bullying, then you just have to extend that principle to what we do together. I certainly don't want to be the guy who walks past and thinks the only thing which matters is what happens to me or my family. It is totally right to prioritise your family, and it is totally right to prioritise your country, but not to the exclusion of other important things. Do we really want our children to grow up thinking that it's okay to just walk past the kid being bullied? I certainly don't think so. I don't want my child to be a selfish coward. My first responsibility is to my family, and that also means to their moral character (not just their wealth). Ukraine is being bullied, it is as simple as that, and we shouldn't stand by and let it happen.

@@Entropy825 That's fine up until the point where half of Europe is being reabsorbed into Russia. Are you content with an equivalent territorial transition to Nazi Germany's WWII boundaries at its height, but owned and commandeered by Putin? Are you also content with the millions who will die as a result? We don't live on an island all by ourselves; we live in a shared world, and if that world is taken over by potential enemies, the U.S. is toast economically and existentially no matter how strong some feel like we can remain alone. Allies are needed to survive, and those who betray their allies will find fewer ones to make in the future.

My mom’s school was destroyed by bombs, and she never got to finish high school. My neighbor ran out of her house, only made it 50 meters, and was hit by a bomb-she didn’t survive. I was born in Vietnam after the war, into a peaceful and unified country, but my parents always reminded us not to forget the Russian people who helped liberate our homeland. When I hear about heartbreaking events, like the 38 lives lost in the Odessa building fire or the thousands of Russian children killed in Donbass, it hits hard. My friends and I in Vietnam really understand why Russia is taking action to protect its people in Donbass. We’re always rooting for our Russian friends and waiting for news of victory.

Hundreds of thousands of kids in North Vietnam were killed by bombs during the war. Even decades later, children are still dying from unexploded bombs left behind by those who say they’re spreading democracy and human rights. It’s heartbreaking. That’s why I get why Putin is stepping up to protect Russians in Donbass. If he doesn’t, what’s stopping groups like the Azov Brigade? It’s a scary thought, and it makes you realize how important it is to stand up for your people.

Look at Chechnya, Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Belarus and so on... If they don't get politically hijacked by russian money they get invaded. This is why countries in the eastern part of europe like Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, the Baltic states wanted to join the EU and NATO, because if they didn't no doubt they would get invaded like with Gerogia and Ukraine. Ukraine is not a wall against Russia. Is the oposite of that. It has plain acess to Russia and moscow. Thats why for Russia conquering till the river would be important, so it can guarantee nato wont have that easy acess to moscow. The other regions (besides of some other small areas) have too many montains and are difficult to penetrate through ground. For nato, having acess to ukraine is like having acess to greenland too. It offers new ways of countering and surveling russia.

@tl1837 The purpose is to have a block. There is a reason why many countries when invade look for that type of safe zone. Israel is doing that too. Any difficulty you put on your enemy is a win. Look at yemen. Those guys hold for so long, besides of so many brutal attacks from the west, because of how the terrain (lots of mountains) is and the fight culture that got formed because of it. Terrain is important. That was also true in ww2 and one of the factor for the germans losing.

"2 minutes to midnight" -Iron Maiden 1984. Worst relation of the 2 biggest nuclear states kinda ever( We should have flying cars in 2025, not be afraid of nuclear Armageddon WTF!!) 2. Billions of dollars poured, so for some is this war profitable so maybe we'll see more EU conflicts 3.EU should improve relations with Russia, a neighbor country, not sour them like last years. WTF is the point of stop buying gas from RUS, but it from the US, and the no shit the US pours Billions to "fuel" the conflict LOL 4. UKR tried to trigger Nato response ( WWW3) for their own missile, claiming it was Russian. That should be enough of a red flag. If someone cares about world peace, NATO is closest to RUS than ever before. WTF mate? 5. With all the money poured in this, with all the lives lost, no progress, only regress( Previously neutral EU countries now have taken sides) I think it is self-evident that peace was not what all parties involved were looking after. Last note, UKR & RUS were the same fckin' country, After this, they gonna hate and revenge on each other for decades. COuntless lives have been lost on both fronts, What a fckin shame.
