The US did not allow Russian/soviet missiles in Cuba. Almost started a nuclear war because of that. The USA invaded the Caribbean island of Grenada because a communist government came to power. The official statement from the current government of Ukraine was that they couldn't hold elections because men on the front line and refugees who left not being able to vote. However they've since said ukrainians who fled and refused to return to fight will be excommunicated by the state. Also it's claimed the men on the front rotate out regularly.
