If there is one enemy in any Zelda game I wish I never came across, it’s the redeads/Gibdos. Also is it just me or do the redeads in the wind waker look more like aliens than zombie like enemies? If they didn’t have the long ears, red eyes and open mouth with teeth showing I mean.

7:30 "Only to reveal their location with a piercing scream..." Ok, that scream sfx was terrifying. Imagine entering a dungeon, and as you're descending into the unsure darkness, you hear that. You never know when it's coming. You never know where it's coming. All you know is an insatiable fear, knowing that it's screams are meant for no one else, but you...
@Nosidda
@Nosidda 4 жыл бұрын
Editor here. Yes, that scream is terrifying, hence why I used it. That scream SFX is actually a reference to a Zelda mod for Skyrim, called Relics of Hyrule. The mod adds a ton of stuff, it's DLC scale, and one thing it adds to the game is Zelda enemies, which of course means ReDead, and that is the sound that the ReDead make in that mod. Imagine exploring a dark dungeon, and out of complete nowhere, you hear that scream, and it freezes you in place. It's terrifying. Lol

3:46 I'd like to correct something. The monster wielding twin blades wasn't exactly cut from the game. It's literally Ganondorf. At some point they made something that too difficult to be a boss for just any dungeon or something and retooled the animations to be the final boss fight. That's why Ganondorf is incredibly good with a sword and unbeatable at sword fighting. It's also very likely that they redesigned Ganondorf to work around this model/mesh and why he has the same body build. If you ever wonder what fighting this enemy would be like, just replay the final fight.

As an arachnophobe I can't tell if being chased by Armogohma down a dark tunnel would be really cool or just waaay too terrifying. Even as it is, I can't look directly at the screen when fighting her and am a little grateful she doesn't fight Link directly. The idea did get used in Spirit Track's Rocktite tunnel fights so maybe it will return it all its spidery scariness at some point.

OK so imagine if the Temple of Time dungeon in TP was more like the time shift things in SS where you would go to the pristine ancient temple to a crumbling ruin infested by spiders. For the end of the dungeon you would go to the ruins version and find a caved in wall leading to a tunnel, as you go through you here crumbling and hissing in the distance. Eventually you'd reach a T-junction. As Link walks out he looks left to see an extending cave, the camera pans behind him to show a large eye snap open. The boss theme blasts in as the demon screeches and its name is shown. When the control is returned you have no choice but to run, after some time it gets caught in a web which gives Link time to shoot its eye and attack. Midway through it starts shooting small spiders at Link which you have to avoid. This goes on till you kill it and that's the end good bye.

My favorite was the cut Nightmare Moblin. As I didn't expect them to have ever even considered porting over something from the cute WW-Style in the TW-Style as they don't match at all. But I strongly disagree with your opinion on Gohma. Armogohma was a good way to give the fight a new spin (As happened before in WW with a fiery variant in a volcano. Granted I was quite surprised when I learned this first major boss had been meant to be Gohma at all.). Fighting a huge spider in a Forest-like area would have been nearly a 1 to 1 repeat and fairly underwhelming in my book.

A lot of content was cut from Wind Waker, and Eiji Aonuma has said that most of the ideas and dungeons have been reused in other games, if the one enemy that was cut wielded a ball and chain it is possible that you were intended to get the ball and chain as a weapon in Wind Waker and it was moved to Twilight Princess instead, this is especially likely when you consider that a key theme of the combat system was the ability to use an enemy’s weapons against them.

Twilight princess probably fascinates me the most with it's initial reveal trailer just because it was so strikingly different to the final game. It looked darker and scarier, not to mention more atmospheric and dare I say open? (maybe empty is a better term since a lot of it was unfinished)

I feel like that Armoghoma concept would fit in BotW 2. BotW is a lot brighter of a game than TP but it could definitely still fit think. Imagine coming face to face with it with in those underground tunnels and having figure out how to beat it as you run for your life. With BotW 2 being a supposedly much darker game it’d be really cool to see

The first version of Armogohma reminds me the monster in the tunnel, in Spirit Tracks. And precisely because we are running away from him. It's not its design in particular but the fact that we are chased by the monster and we have to strike its eye. Maybe a re-used idea ? (Nintendo said that they often reuse ideas from previous games)

What if the scrapped armagohma fight was actually supposed to be the second phase of the fight. At first, you think that you have the advantage, then when you break off its armor and egg sac. it then chases you down a long tunnel.

Mmmm, I feel like the being-chased-down-a-tunnel sequence would be a neat transition phase between having to fend off lesser spiders and attack it while it's behind rubble, only to make it burst through and chase you to the next setpiece with a different layout. That's why the tunnel might appear to be curved, it's going around in circles setting up new temporary miniature boss arenas ahead of you while you're halfway around the other side of the circle and can't see, moving between every attacking phase until the boss is dead. You can't attack it while you're running because it's too fast, maybe when you reach the rubble it hides its eye behind the rocks, throws some small spiders at you, and only pops out for just a moment after you defeat them, then it moves to hide behind another rock and repeats for a few hits?

That concept art *would* have made for a cool Goma enemy in TP, but imagine how much better it would be if we get a similar scenario in BotW2? No locking gates, no pompous circumstance of knowing a boss battle is about to happen. Just the player traversing through a dim, creepy, web infested underground area full of little spiders before coming across a particularly dark dead end. You approach, and a yellow eye opens up before a giant Goma starts skittering after you.

I think that ArmoGhoma concept is actually another example of something scrapped adapted into a part of Spirit Tracks. On your way to meet with the Locomo of the Snow Realm, you have to go through a tunnel, forced to look behind you, where you are chased by a spider-like creature with a single eye. Its another example of the original idea being drastically shrunken down, but that allows the final product to kind of combine the vhase concept with the final produvt walking on walls and ceilings. The main difference is the Spirit Tracks version not being a boss, really, but just an obstacle in your way fairly early on.

The Armos titan looks like it would be an enemy version of the goron wrestling segment, but place the gem on its back and can deflect the side rolling like Darknuts and make it immune to the helm splitter, and that would be one hell of an opponent.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Rocktites from Spirit Tracks. Though it may be unused for the Armogohma battle in Twilight Princess, that scenario was later adapted into a few overworld miniboss fights, for an enemy with an eye on the front of its head much like that same concept for the Armogohma (well, in its mouth) in Spirit Tracks a few years later.

Regarding the cannon troopers going unused it was probably just a case where they couldn't find a good way to fit them into the level design. Since they're soldiers they really only 'fit' in hyrule castle but that just became an enemy guantlet rather than being a movement or puzzle challenge.

I feel like the Armogohma boss would somewhat fit in the first dungeon. I think of when you first enter the first enemy you kill is the spiders on the vines and when you go through that door you encounter a skulltula with pots hanging from the ceiling, alongside more of those and even a room full of them. And some areas in the dungeon are caves or like caves which would be similar to the footage of where link is running from Armogohma in a cave and in the art where like he said "...objects hanging in webs and tree roots."
