When my sister was playing BotW and doing the Myahm Agana shrine, she did something that surprised me. Rather than navigate the ball through the maze (like I did, having the walls actually helped me quite a bit) or use the flat surface like most people do, she started flipping the maze over as if to do the second option, but left it near vertical and then smacked the ball as it was dropped, launching it onto the walkway. I'm not sure if she did that accidentally or if it was her intention, but it was nevertheless a really interesting way to see that puzzle solved.

Regardless, I doubt a panic blood moon would work at the shrine quest. The Korok Forest trial with Oki is one of the funniest shrines to do on a second or third playthrough for me since I've essentially memorized the path to the shrine, so I can just run ahead to the end, slaughtering the wolves that attack near the end before they're a problem and just camp out behind the shrine until Oki shows up. This in turn also makes it so Oki technically proved he's worthy of being a grownup by taking the walk through the woods by himself.

Love the list, though i personally consider the mount lanayru shrine to be S tier - stumbling across cursed Naydra and the distorted version of the drag theme, with absolutely no prior knowledge of this quest and just stumbling across it because i was trying to get to the top of the mountain was hands down the best experience in the whole game for me. it really felt like something totally otherworldly and mysterious and gave me chills the typhlo ruins quest, hilariously, i somehow did in under 30 seconds. i ran in, accidentally ended up on top of the hinox, got the spirit orb, and completed the quest. the green line on my map is pretty much a straight line, i felt like i had completed it by accident! this quest was really built up by the time i got there too, so i was expecting more of an experience. just absolute genuine beginners luck there!

I have to put in a word for the shrine with the 3 trees. Even though it's relatively simple, to the point of being trivial if you know what you're doing, it hits VERY differently if you're new and not very good at the game yet and try to do it early on. It felt like a real accomplishment to get there - I had trouble even finding a path up the mountain where it wasn't raining, needed to track down more peppers and relearn the recipe for the old man's dish so I could survive the cold, and then got a great reward in the form of the climbing boots.
@stephaniem82782 жыл бұрын
I second this. If you follow the path from the plateau, to Kakariko, to Hateno, and then go for this shrine quest, it can be really challenging to figure out how to survive it. One way offers a deadly Lynel, and the other has difficult climbing.

In regards to the very first shrine you mention, the motion control maze, I wanted to put out there for anyone struggling with the "flip it upside-down" method that there is an easier way. If you turn the shrine 90 degrees so the exit faces you, the ball will drop at the end of the final straightaway towards the maze exit. Then you can just turn it back to its original position, and now you have the ball lined up in the maze, with walls on either side, ready to be flung. That stupid golf one is definitely at the bottom for me. The chest puzzle is so damn hard I always end up giving up, and I've looked it up an the reward is one of the few giant ancient cores you can get in chests in the game.

2:22 This shrine reminds me of the beta of BotW, where Nintendo was going to add more Wii U GamePad-related gimmicks into the mix, right before axing *almost* all of it. This is one of those few exceptions. In the beta of this game, the GamePad was more integral to the whole game, with a map and probably inventory on the GamePad, which I am genuinely disappointed aren't in the Wii U version of the game. I remember in a playable 2016 version of the game, there was this one Wii U GamePad gimmick that I am glad didn't make it into the game, where you had the ability to scan enemies in first person using the GamePad's gyro to view their health. It seemed slow and unnecessary. The camera rune is still in the game, and I bet that it was initially supposed to be kinda like Fatal Frame for Wii U.

Trail of power being #5 made me happy. Definitely one of my favourite shrines, as the puzzles are incredibly fun, and it has lots of good loot for the early game. Since I didn’t expect it to be so high it was a pleasant surprise to see my favourite shrine other then the dark forest and eventide at #5.

134, the golf one, was an absolute nightmare. I had to reload my save multiple times because I ran out of weapons to hit the ball with. And since opened chests in shrines are displayed on the world map, the completionist in me was forced to do the extra challenge as well. -1/10, burn in hell.

My nephew was having a tough time with the Stop to Start shrine so he asked me to help him (do it for him). I got to the end in one try, which really irritated him, and right before I accepted the monk’s orb, I pulled out a bomb, blew myself up, and tossed him the controller. His reaction was pretty funny. I told him that he had to do it himself if he wanted to get better, but that didn’t improve his mood any (he finished it in a couple more tries anyway). I wish I would’ve filmed the whole thing

my favorite shrine is Blue Flame. It's so much fun figuring out how to bring the flame from one end of a huge shrine to the other. I'm so glad it was in S tier. Steady Thy Heart was a banger too oml those two and the Naydra quest are some of the most unforgettable in the game imo.

Man this makes me want to do another all-shrines run again. Some of these shrines you just don't revisit otherwise and you forget how fun they can be, like Steady Thy Heart!

I feel so happy to see you consider as number 1 the Steady Thy Heart trial. It does make homage to its name, made me skip a beat unlike any moment in the whole game. Not even a lynel nor the blights made me feel like this. We really appreciate all the effort you put in your videos, Zeltik!

I applaud you ❤️👍🏻. WELL DONE! One aspect I love about BOTW is that shrines can be completed so many different ways. I smiled through this entire video because you showed me different, and often easier, ways to complete the shrine. I appreciate the time, expertise and energy it took to create this. thank you 👍🏻.

When my boyfriend was first playing BotW earlier this year, his roommate and I kept waiting for him to get to the motion control shrines. Those shrines had pissed off both of us so much, and we were just waiting to laugh at his annoyance then share our hatred of the motion controls. We quickly learned that we had severely underestimated the Splatoon player’s mastery of motion controls, as he did those shrines in less than a minute each.

I really wish that instead of being randomly ordered, the shrines in this game that really feel like they build off of one another would actually be encountered in order, so that they get progressively harder, that way it feels like there's a progression from learning a mechanic, to applying that mechanic, to mastering that mechanic.
@stephaniem82782 жыл бұрын
Ah, but then it is less wild. I felt like I learned and mastered them in a progressive way still. If you follow the path the game nudges you toward for the first part of the game, you basically run through all the easier/tutorial-type shrines. The three trees one is essentially a tutorial for shrine quests.
@amaryllis02 жыл бұрын
It's funny, because the sole advantage of having all the shrines being these boring, homogenous pocket dimensions instead of coherent spaces like caves or dungeons, is that the game could change up the shrine inside so you encounter specific shrines in a specific order. For example, instead of Entrance A leading to Shrine A etc., you have Entrance A lead to any wind-themed shine, and the game just serves you up the next wind-themed shrine that you haven't completed yet. Then the shrines could actually build upon each other and become progressively harder as you say

Even tho I love the game, I have a huge issue with shrines: They all give you 1 Spirit Orb. If the reward varied depending on how important or big it was, it would have a bigger impact to the gameplay. Why would one choose to do the stranded island shrine when you could do a 15 second combat shrine? I hope TOTK changes it up and makes shrines a bit more impactful and unique. Maybe some rewards and "shrines" are in the overworld like in previous game, where when you entered a town, you could see some heart pieces to collect. Maybe climbing an impossible mountain rewards you with a stamina bar upgrade, or a huge shrine ends up looking like a dungeon and rewards link with multiple heart pieces, korok seeds, and maybe even an ability. I guess at that point they aren't shrine anymore! I'd rather have 10 unique looking and big shrines and some more overworld events than 136 almost identical shrines. I think we'll get caves in TOTK, maybe some sky islands will be "shrines" on their own!

34:58 this is the WORST shine in my opinion. i have a switch lite, so while doing the apparatus shrines, i don’t have the option to take off the controllers so i have to turn my entire switch this way and that, while trying to still see the screen so i know what i’m doing. i’m convinced the last block is impossible, i gave up and wind bombed it

I actually like Myahm Agana, the lowest rated shrine on the list. It’s early on so it was really cool the first time realizing I could just turn the controller over and skip the maze, and the devs obviously knew you could. It’s just a cool bit of puzzle solving freedom
@patrickflying172 жыл бұрын
If that puzzel was bound to the stick it'd be a living hell. People really need to start thinking outside the box with these gyro puzzels. some are finicky as hell like the three ball ones but overall they're prolly the least frustrustrating of the frustrating type of shrine. Hell you dont even need to turn the mazeupside down. just flick the ball into the middle slot and off you go.

I hated blue flame, but only because they didn’t give you any arrows in the shrine. So many times, I’d go in with a normal amount of arrows and then get stuck doing one of the puzzles for so long that I go through all my arrows. Then the only thing you can do is backtrack and go buy more, and then redo the entire shrine again. It’s infuriating, and that’s why older Zelda games would always make sure if you were in a dungeon where you needed arrows or bombs for instance, you were never stuck without it. I can’t imagine why they changed this in BOTW.

The motion control ones are as bad as playing an actual version of Labyrinth ball puzzle game. Those theres were frustrating as sin to play with. Owned one, could rarely if ever get past a quarter of the area. My hatred for those was exemplified in the BOTWs puzzles that required it.

One thing I disagree with is Bird in the Mountains was THE coolest overworld quest in the game! Just the fact that they designed an entire section of the Hebra region to look like an enormous bird in flight, but only visible from a fixed point at the top of a tree is so brilliant! Plus, it's such a great little misdirection in the riddle, and the realization when the "bird" comes into focus was one of my favorite experiences in the game. My jaw dropped when I heard you say that quest doesn't merit a higher ranking for the shrine. xD

Thanks for the video! I think a lot of the opinions I had on the shrines are ones I share with you, and they were things I considered when I was modding them. I still have the Tests of Strength ones to update, but 100 of them have been reworked to some capacity, like The Stars Guide You having the shrine be pitch black to better see the constellations.

This is game is freaking incredible. So many great shrines and overworld puzzles.
@beatsado6529 Жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with this tier list. I found that there were so many good shrines that were just bogged down because of the short length, and there were a lot of test of strength shrines that could just easily be dealt with. I also found that the amount of blessing shrines was a bit mush, as just walking in and getting a mediocre prise for a mediocre challenge (most of the time) was unrewarding. Another thing is that you missed out on explaining that to get to the Stolen Heirloom shrine, you had to complete a bunch of quests before hand, which really added the satisfaction of getting the Edge of Duality in the shrine.
