Mac i remember an old video from Rob who said that the G note on 13th fret was the hardest note (to him) for a guitar to get right...so that's one that he would hit all the time, to test it
@xxczerxx
@xxczerxx 9 жыл бұрын
RageForSeven That's weird, why would you have difficulty hitting that fret? So he's bending from F note (13 note on E string) to a G? Interesting to know! :) Still sounds annoying af though, reminds me of Status Quo and other pub/dad-rock type stuff.
@CharlesFreck
@CharlesFreck 9 жыл бұрын
Mac I think he meant the G note on 13th fret because Chappers plays drop tuned, rather then he's bending to a G from the 13th fret.

Beautiful guitars with a very unique tone. Rare for sure. Original owner's name is Antanas Kazimeras Žemaitis AKA Tony Zemaitis, Sr., English-born of a Lithuanian family. Original models were engraved by amazing gun-engraver Danny O'Brien. These guitars were used widely in the 50's and 60's, by many artists of different genres such as Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Lane of Faces, George Harrison, Marc Bolan, Joe Walsh, James Honeyman-Scott of The Pretenders, Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi, Gary Grainger of Rod Stewart, Simon Hinkler of The Mission UK, Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke and James Hetfield of Metallica.

Glad you guys liked this & sorry if we offended anyone by getting Tony Zemaitis's parents nationality wrong! I have no idea why we thought his parents were Greek - probably just because the name sounds Greek! Anyway - thanks for watching & if you get a chance, go & check one of these out - they would make a lovely addition to any guitar collection!

Just in case anyone is curious? the company that now makes Zematis is the Fujigen factory in Hamamatsu founded in 1960, they were responsible for Greco, Orville, Burny, Navigator & early Ibanez. their super real series of strats went on to become the Fender JV series in 82 & 83 & the their Orville brand became Orville by Gibson. Awesome guitar makers.
@TheMemagNeman
@TheMemagNeman 8 жыл бұрын
As I recall Burny was made by Fernandez and Navigator was made by ESP. Fujigen is marvelous factory indeed . I have both japanese Greco and Epi Elite. This Greco was the last run of production before they switched to Orville brand. Same specs as early Orvilles. No wonder Gibson wanted those under their wing. Epiphone Elite is by far the BEST guitar I have ever played and touched. I guess it's quality can be compared to Gibson Custom shop easily. If you ever see one (elite/elitist), don't hesitate to snatch it. Cheers!

On Sat. April 28, 1973 I had the very great pleasure to see FACES with Ron Wood at St. John's Arena in Columbus Ohio....Rono played one for the entire show.....as he did the slide solo from Around The Plynth a spot light was shown on the guitar with all other lights out....I still have the pictures and the ticket stub !

james mcbride I was there also. what a great show-the Faces no matter how drunk they were never disappointed always a fun show-that is when rock was the real deal-so many great shows at St John's and the Agora and all the other venues around Ohio State and on campus-I saw hundreds of shows while I was at school there

We saw people who EARNED their fortune and fame one 5 dollar ticket at a time ! The Stones only charged 6 bucks for their July 11, 1972 show in Akron....Faces and Elton John both charged 5 dollars...Queen charged $3.50 as did Bad Company....I hate to say it but Rock is dead...but I will take the ghost of rock n roll over the crap being released today !
@stratmagic6893
@stratmagic6893 9 жыл бұрын
james mcbridethe entire music business is upside down-now bands have to earn most of their money on the road and with merchandise because no one sells albums anymore -those bands you mentioned would tour to promote their records-nowadays the technology has killed music -people want to download for free and listen to crappy mp3 quality thru earbuds-that is no way to listen to music-that is why vinyl is making a comeback-I have a lot of ticket stubs from that time also and I laugh when I see the prices-that is why as a youngster I never said I can't afford to go to a show-I worked summer jobs and saved so I would be able to go see Rory Gallagher or Jethro Tull or Led Zeppelin whenever I could-today bands charge so much money I don't know how people afford to go to multiple shows. I paid $180 to see The Who in 2000 and though I enjoyed the show it wasn't even close to the times I saw them in the 70''s and paid less than $10-now I choose very carefully who I see(Joe Bonamassa) and try to go to small venues-there are still some good new bands around try :The Temperance Movement,Stone Machine,The Stone Electric,Davy Knowles ,Rival Sons and Red Sky Mary to name a few.All of these bands would sound right at home next to the bands you named in your reply. Keep Rockin'

james mcbride I still have some of the stubs as well- $6.50 to see Zeppelin 12th row center-I saw so many triple bills with 3 famous acts where the tickets were $5.00-great times for sure- I remember seeing Bad Company on their first tour at the Wollman Skating rink in Central Park NYC and when the encore came Jimmy Page walked out and did at least 3 songs with them-what a night!! tickets were probably around $5 as well-amazing days

I know a chap here in the states, name is Jim James. Has himself a fantastic old acoustic guitar. It has a metal plate on the headstock. I say "Jim that's a wonderful old guitar, what brand is it?" He replies "oh this chap named Zemaitis made it in the 60's.. quite old" I then go back to the metal plate on the headstock and ask "Was his first name Tony?" "Yes that was the chap how did you know?" and I proceed to tell him how famous Tony became as a guitar builder and it might be wise to reconsider taking his "old thing" to seedy bars for open mic nights. Wonderful chap. Has a wonderful golden retriever named Emmy Lou.

Glad you finally discovered and reviewed ZEMAITIS. I've been following Tony since the '60's , sadly he passed in 2002 but his son carried on and collaborated with Greco to ensure that Tony's vision didn't die. The company is now KANDO SHOKAI In JAPAN. The is an American ZEMAITIS location in CALIFORNIA. They just revamped their website and have many quality guitars on CLOSEOUT. From high end Japanese made to lower end very affordable guitars made in CHINA. I have many of both , bass metal top , 6 string acoustics to 12 string jumbo very similar to Clapton's " Ivan the terrible " great guitars. Great customer rep. " JAMES " in CALIFORNIA!!!

They sound really nice. But to me it's one of those guitars you either have to be really talented or famous (preferably both) to play without looking like a bit of a showoff. If someone like me (ie. Not very talented and certainly not very famous) would play one, i'd look like i was trying a bit too hard in my humble opinion. Great sounding gear though! Very nice review, as always!

I think you'll find that the first 'Les Paul' shaped electric Zemaitis guitar was given to Gary Grainger, who was in a band called Strider. A brief history is that Gary's Uncle is Danny O'Brian who is the engraver of the metalwork on the guitars. Danny worked for Purdey Gunsmiths in London - where at the time there was an apprentice, a friend of mine, Malcolm Cullimore worked. I believe that Zemaitis/O'Brian/Graiger were related. We were the road crew for Strider up until the birth of my daughter Lisa, and we did quite a bit of 'support' for major bands, whose lead guitarists would always spot the Zemaitis guitar. They got a recording contract via Billy Gaff, who took over management from Martin Saville. When they got a financial advance from Gaff, Gary ordered a second guitar. The rest of the history is that Billy Gaff reduced his enthusiasm for the band after the second album and steered Gary into the Rod Stewart Band, along with Malcolm into the Road Crew. Rod & Malcolm also a shared interest in model railways, which lasted until Malcolm's death. Gary also co-wrote many of Stewart's songs, check out Stewart/Grainger on the writing credits. Lots of fond memories.
