The very notion of I am a Buddhist is not correct. It should be I am Buddha. Let's not institutionalise Buddha.

TLDR: Genuine happiness and fulfillment can be achieved through the practice of Zen Buddhism, which emphasizes meditation, detachment from desires, and living in the present moment. 1. 00:00 🧘 Genuine happiness comes from within, not from material possessions, and Zen Buddhism teaches the importance of meditation and understanding oneself to achieve true fulfillment. 1.1 Many people seek happiness outside themselves through material possessions, but true fulfillment comes from understanding and connecting with our inner selves. 1.2 Zen Buddhism teaches the importance of knowing oneself, accessing the true self through meditation, and achieving happiness by freeing oneself from worldly bonds, and this book provides a beginner's guide to understanding its teachings and principles. 1.3 This book provides easy ways to start a zen meditation practice and answers questions about zen buddhism and meditation, but the author and publisher disclaim any warranties and advise seeking professional advice. 1.4 Genuine happiness and fulfillment come from within, not from worldly possessions, and Zen Buddhism teaches us to understand our inner selves in order to achieve true happiness. 1.5 Zen Buddhism teaches the importance of knowing oneself through meditation, freeing oneself from worldly bonds, and experiencing the present moment to achieve happiness. 1.6 Zen Buddhism emphasizes meditation as a tool for attaining enlightenment, veering away from rituals and metaphysical theories, and focusing on the transmission of teachings through practical experience and intuitive knowledge. 2. 13:38 🧘 Zen Buddhism teaches detachment from desires, presence in the moment, and meditation to achieve peace and happiness, with influential figures like Bodhidharma and Hua Ke spreading its teachings. 2.1 Feelings of enthusiasm and creativity lead to a state of mind where detachment from desires and being fully present in the moment can bring happiness and freedom. 2.2 Feudation is the immovable mind that makes a person feel invincible and fearless, while motion is the state of no mindedness characterized by clarity and absence of ego and selfish desires. 2.3 Satori is a natural state of mind that brings peace and happiness, and Zen Buddhism traces back to ancient India with the goal of alleviating human suffering through meditation. 2.4 Yogi and Buddha practiced self-control and realized that material possessions do not bring true happiness, leading Buddha to search for answers to the problem of human suffering. 2.5 A monk discovered zen Buddhism through meditation and passed on the teachings to others, leading to its spread across many countries. 2.6 Bodhidharma and Hua Ke were influential patriarchs in the spread of Zen Buddhism from China to Japan, with legends surrounding their teachings and practices. 3. 25:22 🧘 Zen Buddhism focuses on the transmission of dharma, the shift to urban community-centered learning, and the practice of becoming intimate with oneself to transcend egoistic nature and act compassionately, freely, and wisely. 3.1 Sangsen, the third patriarch of Zen Buddhism, was a student of Huaqi and known for his poem "Ming," and after being cured of leprosy by Huaqi, he led a life of poverty and devotion, eventually receiving the robe and bowl symbolizing the transfer of the dharma. 3.2 The third patriarch of Zen Buddhism studied with a monk for nine years and later transmitted the dharma, leading to a shift in focus from nomadic teachings to urban community-centered learning. 3.3 Hungarian hunger, a disciple of dalzan, left home at a young age to become a monk, impressed the master with his nature, and led a new period of chan with expanded spiritual practices. 3.4 Contests between sudden and gradual enlightenment, including Shangsu Hongdran's famous contest, challenged followers to express their reflections and realizations, with Shangsu teaching the two-fold essence of Buddhism and being invited by Empress Wu. 3.5 Understanding the basics of Zen, including Buddha mind and nature, is essential for gaining enlightenment and seeing one's true nature. 3.6 Our buddha nature is the fundamental nature of all beings, not something we possess, and in the practice of zen, we need to become intimate with ourselves to transcend our egoistic nature and act compassionately, freely, and wisely. 4. 32:38 🧘♂ Study and forget the self to realize the boundless nature of the mind, practice Zen Buddhism to respond to suffering and achieve happiness and peace. 4.1 To truly understand Zen Buddhism, one must study and forget the self, leading to a realization of the empty nature of the self and the boundless nature of the mind, which must be sustained through constant practice. 4.2 Zongmi's analysis of the mind in Zen Buddhism identifies four aspects, including the physical mind or heart and the thinking mind. 4.3 The mind has four aspects: the sensory mind, thinking mind, storehouse consciousness, and the firm and solid mind. 4.4 The real mind has two functions, to associate and disassociate with false thoughts, and Zen Buddhism responds to human suffering and evil through compassionate action and the removal of dualistic thinking. 4.5 The author discusses how delusions and misconceptions lead to frustration and hinder our ability to achieve happiness and peace in life. 4.6 Recognize the oneness of all things, live in harmony with the world, veer away from attachment, and understand that human suffering is not separate from the self. 5. 39:51 🧘 Zen Buddhism emphasizes enlightenment through awareness in everyday life, influencing art and culture, promoting spiritual connection with nature, and providing numerous physical and mental health benefits through meditation. 5.1 The ultimate goal of Zen Buddhism is to attain enlightenment, which is not about conceptual understanding but about manifesting awareness in everyday life, with different ideas about the afterlife and the concept of the pure land. 5.2 Zen Buddhism has had a significant influence on Japanese art and culture, including ink painting, the tea ceremony, stone gardens, and the concept of wabi-sabi. 5.3 Zen Buddhism emphasizes a deep spiritual connection with nature, influenced the development of martial arts, and has proven to be beneficial for spiritual and physical health. 5.4 Meditation has numerous physical and mental health benefits, including reducing stress, improving immune system, promoting better sleep, reducing sensitivity to pain, improving blood flow and mood, and helping recovery from addiction. 5.5 Zen meditation helps to overcome addiction and attachment, with zazen being the foundation of the practice and leading to personal and intimate understanding. 5.6 Understanding the true meaning of zen and the importance of meditation, as well as the necessary preparations for zen meditation. 6. 50:30 🧘 Zen meditation can transform your life by practicing proper posture, breathing, and focus, leading to a more relaxed and aware mind. 6.1 Find a quiet, comfortable room for Zen meditation, and consider using a zafu cushion for stability and comfort. 6.2 Practice zen meditation using either the half lotus or full lotus position, with the half lotus being suitable for beginners and the full lotus requiring more flexibility. 6.3 Practice zen meditation with various positions such as the burmese, kneeling, chair, and standing positions, and use the cosmic mudra hand position for a more flexible and relaxed mind and body. 6.4 Maintain proper posture, breathe through your nose, keep your eyes open, and aim to transcend thinking during zen meditation. 6.5 Start zen meditation by preparing your space, getting into position, and focusing on your breath, gradually increasing the time and observing yourself to discover hidden awareness within. 6.6 Zen Buddhism is a simple practice to cure a difficult mind, requiring time, discipline, and engagement in activities that put you at ease, ultimately leading to a life of happiness and peace. 7. 01:03:23 🧘 Focus on one task at a time, manage your schedule with breaks, create simple rituals, and live a simple life with only necessary things to transform your life in 7 days. 7.1 Focus on one task at a time, take your time and move slowly, and complete each task before moving on to the next to avoid stress and ensure precision. 7.2 Do less in your everyday life, manage your schedule with breaks in between tasks to avoid stress and allow for relaxation. 7.3 Create your own simple rituals, designate time for specific tasks, and devote time for sitting meditation and other exercises to practice being present in the moment. 7.4 Smile and be kind to others, serve selflessly, incorporate meditation into daily tasks, and live a simple life with only necessary things. 8. 01:08:21 🧘♂ Simplify life, practice presence, and find enlightenment through Zen Buddhism. 8.1 Live a simple life, get rid of material possessions, identify what is essential, and practice being present to discover your true nature and achieve enlightenment. 8.2 Buy the book for a better and happier life, leave a review on Amazon, and discover peace and happiness through Zen Buddhism.

Good book, but some of the pronunciations are way off. In the Buddhist temples I'm familiar with (Dharma Rain Zen Center, where I lived 4 years and completed a seminary program, Great Vow Monastery, and several others) it's "ZAH- Zen" not "zazzen" and "Zah-Buh-Ton." Some of the ancestor's names do need to be based on best guesses of translations from hundreds of years ago.
