Crazy to think how impactful Kaigaku actually was to the story; he's the reason Gyomei became the super-strong Hashira he is today, he's the reason Shinobu and Kanae were saved by Gyomei and also became Hashira (Shinobu was especially important to the story and especially this arc), and he's the reason Zenitsu was forced to overcome his own cowardice and surpass his fellow disciple. But regardless, Kaigaku is still a b*tch even tho his demon outfit is sick.

Kaigaku didn’t understand why Jigoro put so much faith in Zenitsu. Now, he probably knows why: Because unlike him, Zenitsu is grateful to those who show kindness to him, will never let good people die on his watch, and only needs to know one technique to succeed. A detail is that Jigoro gave both his known students yellow kimonos with triangle patterns, like the one he wears, and Zenitsu wears his, but Kaigaku never wore his. This represents how Zenitsu holds Jigoro in much higher regard than Kaigaku could ever hold the former Thunder Hashira.

According to the demon slayer wiki trivia. The reason why kaigaku can’t use the first form was likely due to having the sword on his back rather than his hip; as according to zenitsu. Thunder breath users focus their energy on their legs.

He kinda deserved it since his morality was extinguished and he would not even try to understand Zenitsu .He gives people tags like “weak “ and that hinders his own growth since he now won’t listen to that person even if the person is finally strong now . He is a coward like Zenitsu but in the only thing differentiating then is thief mindset of “should I confront my fear or not “ and that is the Reason why Zenitsu has truly grown so much in ever way but Kaigaku choosing not to has lead to his downward spiral (This is already said in plot armours Zenitsu story if I’m not wrong )

And then brings a demon over there being mindless about how he wronged the person who cared for him so much and chooses his life over all of his peers . Although this may be because first of all he’s a kid so he won’t be so smart about solving such problems plus he believes that if he is able to survive to live another day then he can get stronger (probably his way of thinking “if I make use of myself surviving a day by being stronger then all those wrong doings are automatically justified “ although I may be making too big leaps ) plus this was all when he was cornered by a demon .

I feel like it should've been Zenitsu and Gyomei vs Kaigaku to be honest, albeit a much stronger Kaigaku that's already living for a year and has improved his power to be on par with the other Upper Moons. If that happened, we would get to see Zenitsu and Gyomei recognizing each other's connection with the Upper Moon, and like you said, it would definitely me an emotional fight. I can see Gyomei probably crying after realizing the child he raised has become a Demon, but at the same time, he would probably apologize before to Kaigaku before fighting him alongside Zenitsu.

Zenitsu is cool however I do not believe the Zenitsu would be able to kill Kaigaku if a month had passed. I mean Yushiro literally confirmed it in the manga. At the very least they would both at least die. I see his potential and I'm not underestimating him, I mean he was able to attack Muzan and survive. But he wouldn't stand a chance had Kaigaku trained a month or two longer.

Ngl I think Kaigaku was made so poorly and definitely my least favorite Upper Rank. Combined with his backstory he has no real decent motive other than being a massive prick for the sake of being a prick. He has no redemption, no regrets, no morale. He's evil for the sake of being evil, Like some evil copy of a superhero in a cartoon show. If they had a relationship like Kokushibo and Yoriichi I think it would've made for a more intriguing villain imo
