Piccolo consistently has some of the funniest dialogue in this series, simply because he doesn’t mince words. His dynamic with Vegets is particularly funny. Their exchange before he sacrifices himself is gold, but then there's also that moment in the foght with 18 where everyone is glazing Vegeta but Piccolo is just like, "oh nah he's toast.". Its great i'm glad they continued to lean in this direction for his character in the future.

The Buu saga is not the best written, but screw it, its FUN. So many cool concepts are introduced, so many great fights, the animation and the art also take a massive bump in quality. And moments like Vegetas sacrifice and the final genkidama are iconic and genuinely great. If it were a little smoother, it would be the most epic and memorable arc in the story.

Honestly, because of the length and pacing of Buu saga, I feel like it should have just been the entire show. Just remove Cell Games and Namek Sagas and make the Saiyans Saga tie directly into Buu Saga and spend the rest of the show with the Majin team. It would even make more sense to start off the show having Dabura as a new demon king seeing as they've just taken down the previous one, and it would fix a major problem the show originally had, which was that it never had a consistent plot direction.

Ngl I think the thing I would change about this arc is having Gohan be with Goku and Vegeta at the end fighting Kid Buu. I know that doesn’t seem like much but I feel like with Gohan being there it not only brings the entire arc together, tying in the beginning with Gohan as the Saiyaman till now, but also I feel like it’ll make it much more thematically cooler as the end for DB. You can make a huge argument that Goku, Vegeta and Gohan were the main characters of the series so having the big three characters who got most of the development and screen time come together to show how far they progressed throughout the whole show woulda been fire. But eh that’s just me.

Goku 2 sons and everybody he has ever loved had died by the hand of buu and instead of wanting to kill the basdard that does it his first reaction is playing rock paper and scissors to determine whod fight buu first. Which in the end doesn't even matter because they jumped buu in the end of it. Goku said it wouldn't be fair for him to fight buu with others because he isnt fused but when goku starts losing he gets his boys to jump him the only word i can describe goku is hes a b***h. And then he preaches in super how cowardly it is not to fight 1v1. Imagine if naruto watched everyone he cared about died and he did what goku did in this arc. Ichigo and goku are actually pretty similiar but when ichigo tells people to not get involved he doesn't ask for help no matter what even if he starts losing.

My biggest issue with this arc is that it doesn't even stick to or commits it's own themes that much. Toriyama constantly pushed this whole "The next generation will handle this! The generation is special!" Narrative just for the next generation to not matter whatsoever. Goten and Trunks nake things worse, Videl gets overshadowed by her dad so she basically has no reason to exist, Gohan doesn't even accomplish anything this arc he just pulls up and gets his ass beat every time Toriyama decides to use him💀 It's a weird arc I love what it brought to the table but hate it as a story

Eh it does stick to it really. But they did matter and still helped out. Not really they still helped fight Super Buu well. She doesn't get overshaowed by him as she fights pretty well herself and has her moments and she has a reason to exist as she helped motivate Gohan and develop his character, he does accomplish helping fight and doing damage to Buu at least, he also fiought Dabura too. It as a story is not bad.

Piccolo's intellect was lowkey his strength for his allies, and also funnily enough, Buu when he absorbed both him and Gotenks. He got that immediate brain blast. Went from raw alien ferocity to being able to speak at a college level over an angry toddler, just from absorbing ONE particular guy. Piccolo barely got nary a lick as far as combat in this saga but, he proved that intellect is more important in some battles, than raw strength. The failure of Majin Vegeta's sacrifice that would have toasted anyone literally not magick to subatomic particles, and the clowning of SS3 and Gotenks likewise even when their punches literally can rattle the Earth with every blow. So. Spirit Bomb again? Spirit Bomb again. 🤦🏿‍♀️

What's weird about dragonball characters is they forget their pasts like goku literally once let bora die in front of him cause he underestimated a foe who was after goku mind you and kululin already died once as has vegeta and gohan saw deaths before cell but these characters act like for example when goku sees kululin die in front of him he acts like he never seen that before same for when gohan sees cell kill 16 or beating up his foes...gohan never held back or didn't want to not fight later on namek and vegeta should know he is going to hell like he did the first time....

As of seeing this comment I literally just noticed that some of the art direction is for certain a lot more sparse than it was in the preceding arcs. Lot more frames with minimal backgrounds with heavy reliance on skybox frames with clear skies, etc., lending us a little gradient to frame the real art around in lieu of a dynamic background. I mean I get it; time constraints and exhaustion. His author notes in the DBZ manga (I owned all 26) over time became less chipper and plucky and more "Gee... I sure underestimated this work schedule and the popularity of this series..." But that said, I still appreciate that this saga exists regardless. we got some amazing moments, promising characters (even if strictly relegated to video games), and plenty more SCREAMING FOR LIKE 8 EPISODES STRAAAAAAAIIIIGHT!!!!
