00:00 Hello Everyone!
Norway Chess is a 10-player round-robin featuring Top 5 stars Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja and Hikaru Nakamura taking place in Stavanger, Norway from 30 May to 9 June. Each of the 9 rounds consists of a classical game where a win is worth 2 points and a loss 0. If the players draw they play an Armageddon game, where the winner earns 1.5 points and the loser 1 point. No draw offers are allowed before move 30.
The 3+2 blitz opener takes place on Monday 29th and will give the winners the chance to pick their pairing numbers for the main event. The classical time control is 2 hours for all moves, with a 10-second increment per move only after move 40. For Armageddon White (the same player who had White in the classical game) has 10 minutes to Black's 7, with a 1-second increment from move 41. Black wins if the game ends in a draw. A tie for 1st place will be decided by two 3+2 blitz games followed, if necessary, by a 5 vs. 4-minute Armageddon game. Official website: norwaychess.no

Time has accounted for at least three upsets in my opinion with this classical competition. The repeated question if rapid and blitz takes a bite out of the players' comfort zone.

I comment rarely but ...... well I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your excellent productions. I owe all my knowledge of this game mostly to you and few other KZbin channels. For a student like me who cannot afford to buy many books it is really a blessing to see ( and learn) the game so beautifully. The way you bring the game to life is unmistakable. Please don't stop. I'm only like a 1600+ right now but after move 5 or so, with the danger of a knight landing on d.3 ( the famous "octopus" knight)I would have given up the forward knight for two pawns and a tempo ( c & b pawns plus the developing of the light squared bishop on the recapture of the c pawn) and using the bishop pair plus my central control as much as I could,biding my time for a rapid kingside expansion to choke my opponent with space,and wait for a mistake. Prolly why I'm still 1600+ but playing against an octopus knight is just pure torture. The first opening I learned was Queens Gambit as taught on DVD by the great Kasparov,and through misplaying in some of those lines wound up subjected to the occasional octopus knight. Much more fun to give up the knight for two pawns, central control,and the bishop pair, if executed properly ( against a sub 1800 player of course) there is sufficient compensation.

I might say something unpopular, but this game is so unpleasant to me. Too much openness, pieces hanging and attacking options, it's like never being safe.

at 11:55 after Be7 black doesn't need to capture the bishop its a force mate by Black starting with Rf1 and g2 rook is pinned the king has no place to move only the d1 rook can capture on f1 and then Qg2 will be checkmate. and the same after Bd4 it's a forced mate by Black at 13:50 Shak missed the same mate 2 times
@peterbraunschweig2779

Rxf1 is check. Black has to get out of check and white can force a checkmate without giving black another opportunity to continue the attack. (I had to put it in an engine to spot that myself though).

@@peterbraunschweig2779 No need for white to force checkmate ... after Rxf1+ he's got 2 rooks for a bishop and can readily defend with, say, Qg3.

I thought the same thing, but when R d.1 recaptured on f.1 it is with check on the black king...then your down two rooks with a wide open king. 🤔 looked at it like 4 times before I noticed the black king on the f-file being I check after moving whites dark squared bishop.

2nd: magnus cheats anish giri by punching clock even if pieces are not properly set up - round 7 superbet blitz 3:22:36 in 8gw7XDq87C4 #suggestion and 2016 WCC - This is relevant to the 2023 WCC. Please agad cover the other decisive game of the Sergey Karjakin vs Magnus Carlsen 2016 WCC #suggestion What happened is that Magnus lost to Sergey AS WHITE in Game 8 but then compensated for a white loss with A WHITE WIN in Game 10. This is what happened to Liren Ding & Nepo for Games 2 & 4 of 2023 WCC. Why doesn't a drawn match go to the player w/ more black wins (if any) s.t. Sergey Karjakin not Magnus Carlsen is 2016 WCC & Ian Nepomniachtchi not Liren Ding is 2023 WCC? This has happened BEFORE! 1 2022 Accentus Chess960 Vincent Keymer and Nodirbek Abdusattorov both finished with 5.0/7 and tied first. However, as Keymer won more games with Black, he won the tournament on tiebreak. 2 1980 - 1981 candidates tournament 'When the quarterfinal between Portisch and Spassky was tied after 14 games, Portisch was declared the winner because he had won more games with Black.' Actually maybe cover the only 2 decisive games here if not already? #suggestion 3 1983-1984 candidates tournament It wasn't repeated! The premise was the same! Hübner had more black wins than Smyslov before tiebreaks. After tiebreaks were tied, a ROULETTE determined Symslov won!!
