I want to give some context to that series lore you were wondering about. The show says that after the defeat at Trafalgar, Elizabeth III fled to the American colonies and made that the seat of the Britannian Empire. In our world, the battle of Trafalgar was a great victory won by the British Navy against the Franco-Spanish navy in 1805. It prevented French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte from having any chance of carrying out his planned invasion of England. But it seems in this timeline, Napoleon’s fleet won a smashing victory against the British at Trafalgar. That led to a later French invasion of England which necessitated the English Monarchy to flee to their American colonies (which I guess never rebelled in this alternate timeline) while Napoleon set up a puppet government in England. In our timeline something pretty similar happened, but with Portugal. Napoleon invaded the country and tried to set up a puppet government there. The Monarchy fled to their colony of Brazil and briefly ruled it as the new Empire of Brazil before returning to Portugal after Napoleon’s defeat and abdication.
@Darthwin1 Жыл бұрын

@nsampone3 Жыл бұрын
@@jeffreychinn609 and that's actually historically valid. John Adams had warned other leaders of the American Revolution that Benjamin Franklin was growing too accustomed to the "pleasures" of the French Court and that he could be persuaded to turn on the colonies (Franklin was in France for much of the war representing us - with our French allies). Having Franklin be the traitor was a good call. Especially for the kind of thing that's a small piece of irrelevant background lore (the history of Brittania)

This episode always gives me whiplash because one part of it is giving us some of the most emotionally gut punching material within an already very dark and heavy show, showing how Lelouch's actions affect innocent people through Shirley, who is a genuinely good person, but has lost her family because of Lelouch's quest of defeating Britannia. The other part is the table. Which, in hindsight, might be even more gut punching.

Remember that Lelouch is heavily based on Hamlet (it's also one of his three favourite books), and we all know what happened to Ophelia just because she loved him. This whole series is a very long, very detailed Shakespearian tragedy, and as a theatre kid, I'm here for that Cx

I really like how Lelouch doubled down on the idea that trust in his organization is earned through results immediately after he heard how excited Kallen and Ogi were to meet the Kyoto leaders. It primes the viewer's brain to arrive at the same conclusion Lelouch reaches: "My knights still don't trust me even after Narita, so maybe results on their own aren't enough. Gaining the trust of Kyoto would probably boost morale, but I doubt their wealthy leader, whoever they are, will want to collaborate if I keep my mask on either." You gotta love Lelouch's sense of spectacle too. When asked to take off his mask, he could have spoken a few words only lord Kirihara could understand. "We already met when I first arrived in Japan 8 years ago. I am thankful for the hospitality you granted me despite the circumstances." But that wouldn't have been nearly as fun as what we got, with Ogi taking off the mask from C.C. and then Lelouch coming out of a Knightmare with a remote. It's one of my favorite moments from this season.

The ginger man we saw die in the Battle of Narita is Lord Kewell, he is not Shirley's father, he is a member of the Purist Faction of the Britannia army (I think the editor marked as "Britannia Racism" every time the name of this faction was said in the last chapter). We saw Shirley's father in episode 8 speaking on television. He was not military, he was a civilian. He died because the city was buried just like I said in my other comment. Well, it's not the first time that a youtuber hits a prediction by getting confused with something. I had thought that CC was referring to her contract with Lelouch when she told him "stick to your contract", but, taking into account the official material and reviewing the scene again, Kenny is right. There is a perfect sentence in the official Code Geass guide that sums up the CC story arc and it has to do with contracts and promises. But I won't reveal it until we are almost at the end of this journey. Instead, I'll say there's an Audio Drama where CC tells Kallen how much she loves making contracts and Kallen makes an interesting and spot on point. CC uses the term "contract" to create a distance. I won't delve into it. I'll wait until we're at episode 15. I'm sure CC's imaginary friend said to her, "Oh, so you're starting to care for Lelouch!" and she replied: "To me, he is nothing more than a contractor" (Montana is right, the voice in her head is a friend of CC). PS: I think Suzaku does know that it is justice (we all have a concept of what it is and for Suzaku, it is not fair that innocent people die on the battlefield and if he knew that the landslide happened because it was part Lelouch's ploy to capture Cornelia, he would be even more sure that it's not fair for them to die for Lelouch's selfish actions).
@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian Жыл бұрын
Love that audio drama, it's so heartfelt and intimate, and really in character for the two girls. I like to imagine the year gap between the two seasons was filled with more moments like it where they deepened their friendship. They have great chemistry in R2, and I just wish we had more of it in the Fukkatsu movie ^^

Previously, I had hinted in a fun fact that we got the table scene due to Code Geass' late-night airtime. Of course, there is nothing wrong with m*st*rb*t*ng. But the scene is configured to be uncomfortable since the objective is to make the viewer understand that Nina is obsessed with Euphemia and urges the viewer to pay more attention to her, since Nina is one of those secondary characters that goes unnoticed the first time and then turn out to be very important. Until now Nina has been portrayed as an insecure teenager with a trauma towards the Elevens and these are the perfect conditions for a strong emotional dependency to manifest itself (which is what is happening here). It's a pretty common thing at this stage of life, actually. Nina is teased for this scene and hated for various reasons that I won't go into detail here, but if the viewer takes her seriously, they will discover that she is one of the best characters in the series. Anyway, I hope this scene doesn't get all of Kenny and Montana's attention as there's a lot going on that needs to be discussed. The most obvious are the direct consequences of the Battle of Narita. The landslide caused by the radioactive arm of the Guren buried the people living in the city underground, suffocating or crushing them to death. That is why Suzaku missed Ashford Academy since he volunteered to recover the buried corpses (and maybe rescue the ones that were still alive, I don't remember if there was) and this specific and legitimate case proves Suzaku right apropos that Zero's selfish actions involve the sacrifice of many innocent lives (which is why it's not worth going through with the rebellion, according to him). Coincidentally, Villetta is also one of the officers helping out in Narita and meets Shirley, who is a friend of the young man she saw in the Shijunku ghetto. The pieces are starting to fall into place and I have to say that it was a smart decision to play the Mozart Requiem piece at the concert that Lelouch and Shirley didn't make it to. It was a prelude to the viewer that someone had died (Shirley's father). By the way, that close-up on Shirley's face with her bangs covering her eyes and the rain falling on her seems beautiful to me. We get our first glimpse of several important characters, too. Last but not least, while Lelouch is already beginning to trust C.C. due to what happened in the previous episode, the distrust of the Black Knights towards Zero increases. This is something that had been dragging on since Code Geass episode 4, when Lelouch refused to reveal his identity. Though they won the battle, Zero gained legitimacy as leader, and the Black Knights gained the confidence they needed to defeat Britannia, none of that was not enough for them to forgive Zero's questionable actions. The secrets and the fact that they were forced to fight in Narita undermined their trust towards Zero (I liked that the Black Knights didn't forget that). Luckily, Kirihara's approval and learning that Zero is not Japanese (and which is supposedly the reason why he doesn't reveal his face) gave the Black Knights back their faith in their leader and now they will follow him without question, unless that Lelouch lies to them again, continues to hide things from them or does something worse, or all of the above! But we will have to see what happens...
@AlicentviBritannia Жыл бұрын
Oh! I am in love with the thumbnail that they have chosen for this episode. It's sad, but at the same time, it's beautiful. You can see Lelouch shocked to learn what he has done to Shirley unintentionally. Anyways. For some reason I can't post more than two comments anymore (well I couldn't last time), so I'll attach the fun facts as a response to my comments on the episode. Just for precaution. Hopefully it's temporary. Fun fact: Originally Lelouch was going to have white hair, Shirley was going to have blue hair and brown eyes, and Ashford Academy's uniform was not going to be beige, but red (early designs roam the internet). I appreciate that none of this remained as the final designs.

This is actually a "what if" Britain defeated Julius Ceaser in 55 BC (their year 0, so the show actually takes place in 1963 our time). Which spiraled into What if Britain then won the American Revolution but then lost to Napoleon Bonaparte (the battle of Trafalgar)... and tech development happened more quickly afterwards as a result of all the British and American scientists working together as a result. Plus a massive influx of British workers and wealth as a result too. Oh, not to mention Canada never breaking away either.

Trafalgar is Napoleon's greatest defeat besides Waterloo. In Code Geass I believe Napoleon actually won that particular battle, basically letting him conquer all of Europe (and creating the European Union singlehandedly independently of how it happened in real life). The British Royal Family, obviously at risk after not winning their IRL biggest W against Napoleon, basically jumped ship and fucked off to the American Colonies, setting shop there. So when people in the show talk about Britannians, they're actually "kinda" talking about Americans.

In this setting, there are like three major differences throughout the history, IIRC. 1st: The Romans never touched British ground, they weren't successful in crossing the water. 2nd: The British/Britannians won the War of Independence. 3rd: Napoleon defeated the British Empire/Britannia in Europe and took over the whole continent later on. So there are now basically three major powers: 1. Britannia: North + South America + Japan/Area 11 2. EU (Not European Union, it was something different,but I forgot. Maybe it's another name in English, I just know the German one.): Europe + Russia + Africa 3. Something like a Chinese Union or Asian Union, I'm not quite sure..: Basically everything else.
