Great fix on the red placket! I need that Readers Digest book😂😂. Old methods are SO often the best. Great vlog and so topical. 😊 Lynne

OMG Lynn everyone needs this book I use it SO often and it never lets me down plus I get the added benefit of feeling like I'm back in 1978 😂😂😂

Thanks for another episode. You always inspire me! A couple of years ago I tried very hard to like zero waste patterns. I decided it wasn’t a good fit for me. I keep my remnants and use them on parts of my next projects, much like you did with the placket. And I like a set-in sleeve. Drop sleeves tend to create that bump you showed. But great coverage of this topic. You’re always so positive!

Thanks MJ I have developed a love-hate relationship with ZW sewing 😂but it has inspired me to be more creative with pattern placement so I can reduce the scraps from traditional patterns.

Great video. Love the red pullover ( I'm wearing a thermal knit Henley as I view this). The stripey tunic looks great! - Kelly

Great video and I can't wait for your inspiration video next week. While you are freezing your butts off our butts are melting like ice cream on a hot plate here in NZ 😎. Im starting to dream of cozy autumn and winter patterns... but of course I'm a sucker for any new pattern no matter what season it is for!

I find zero waste interesting but I’ve never seen anything I’d try. However, maybe that placket red top you made. I agree, remove bulk because it needs to come out. I can find a way to use that as a decorative patch on shirt. I love your black and white garment you are wearing. ❤

Ginny, you are always an inspiration. I am still in love with the zero waste French fold shrug. I like to wrap the back wing around and make it a pocket I make it a bit longer and often line it. I made several for gifts at Christmas and everyone loves them. It’s cold here in Texas again and I am making my fav kimono pattern using my stash of vintage chenille. Have a great week!

I'm so glad you like the French fold shrug, I haven't made one in a while but now you mention it maybe I will! Please tell me what your fave Kimono pattern is? I love a good kimono!

@@thebigsewalong Have you tried the one from Hot Patterns? I can't remember the name but it has an interesting shape.
@dorisamstutz58889 ай бұрын
@@thebigsewalong the pattern I use a lot is Simplicity S8172 I have made each of the views but I like the short one and I kind of hack it a bit but I like the shape and size I just make the largest and then vary it depending on the material I have. Because I don’t buy fabric I use vintage chenille pieces or upcycle clothing it’s always a bit of an adventure and the pockets I put in vary depending on what I use. Some are made from vintage linens, some fabric scraps and sometimes I hide them on the inside of the kimono. I don’t often use the facing or trims unless it’s pieces of chenille fringe and just do a serged rolled hem finish keeping it casual.

@@thebigsewalong with the French fold shrug I love to line it and when I don’t line I like to take one of the wings and fold it to the front and stitch it to make an angled front pocket.

I like the idea of ZW garments and really enjoy the mental challenge of trying to designing my own patterns. But ZW garments made of woven are not flattering on me. I was intrigued by the idea of ZW garments made of knits. Thanks for the inspiration. The Empty Hanger Etsy shop appears to be taking a break.

Sorry abut the empty hanger shop Audrey it was still active when I recorded this ☹hopefully it will be back soon . Meanwhile you could check out her blog: emptyhangerpatterns.wordpress.com she has some pretty interesting ideas that you could easily apply to knit garments. 🤗

I'm not always a fan of zw patterns to wear, but I love the concept--and that said, the golfinch patterns jones pants are my favorite pants I've ever made, if you delve back into pants, I recommend!
@thebigsewalong9 ай бұрын
Oh thank you Alanna I've been looking at those pants but have been reluctant to. try them. I've tried the goldfinch Lawrence shirt and also a tunic thing not crazy about the fit on either but I will try the pants for sure!🤗
@verytomato9 ай бұрын
I also love the Jones Trousers from Goldfinch, but they are baggy. They look great in a fluid fabric. While the front is slightly dropped in the crotch (a good look for short people), the back isn't droopy at all. I love the way the pockets are constructed on this pant. I do leave off the cuffs, because the given length is perfect for my inseam length. @@thebigsewalong

I just discovered your channel today and I’m really enjoying your videos so far! I’m also obsessing over your lipstick and nail polish colors. And the stripes! You have great style and have mastered what suits you. I’m still working on what my style is and playing around a lot. Anyway, you look great! 😊

Than you Michelle! That;s so nice to hear. I find personal style to be a real journey. Sometimes I think I have it down and sometimes I don't but I try to enjoy the process

Thank you for the video. I've been looking for zero waste patterns for knits. Was it hard to draw patterns directly on knits? For example, the Aster top calls for knits with 75% stretch and it seems difficult to draw on something that stretchy.
@thebigsewalongАй бұрын
it can be a little tricky to draw on super stretchy fabric. I had pretty good luck with a chaco chalk wheel www.wawak.com/cutting-measuring/marking-chalk-pens/chalk/clover-chaco-liner-marker-white/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADxYasOCR9ymmGPTLo5szlPEA4AeX&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjNS3BhChARIsAOxBM6qYPj8Od_PZ-3exPQXqNZshxnP7uUMP9r1kVDmSpgZO2p-79B654c0aAnqTEALw_wcB#sku=ck4 also it's all straight lines so that makes it easier. Drawing on 100% cotton knit and cotton/spandex wasn't a problem.hope this helps 🤗
