Thanks Gini! *Remove Seam Allowance First!* reminder is my big takeaway---I don't know how many times I've messed up by not doing that :p. While I probably wouldn't ruche pants, I think I would try this on a top. Fabric weight seems to make all the difference & your soft, light linen gathers beautifully! This was a good tutorial :)

Thanks Beth. It’s amazing how many times I have to re-learn something like “remove seam allowances” 🙄

The biggest difference was the pant pattern itself. The original inspi used a really dropped crotch, that center section is its own piece and theres very little ruching involved. The seams have been stitched down which makes it look like continuous gathers. I cant see the inner lower leg seam to tell but it looks like they just added length there. Ive done it with actually just cutting the side of the leg longer, then slightly curving the hemline to meet the inside seam. Of course you cant add too much to be gathered up, I think I did 5", but its a quick way. Ive done the same trick with adding horizontal side pleats too. I really admire tou for tackling this project, I know I would never bother, lol. By the time I put into the pattern, the sewing time, and the fabric Id figure it was a bargain to just buy the pants! But, now you have a new skill and worked out the problems and thats always a good thing. I think the Burda pattern may work better but doesnt Tina have a pattern that has that really long crotchline? I think it was from several years ago...cant remember the name.

Hi Charlotte! I know what TG pant you mean but I can’t remember the name either. I’m pretty sure I have it in my stash and I think you’re right about it being closer to the original inspiration 🤗

I love your pink pants....I thought they were silk 'til you said they were linen. Thanks for the excellent tutorial! It will be very helpful for me to duplicate a store bought linen tunic I love that has this feature up the front.

Love the couching technique. Will you get the same results if you cut almost through opposite side but leave slightly attached and spread open? It would fan out as you spread; 1/2” isn’t very much.
@thebigsewalong4 ай бұрын
Yes Cheryl it would be exactly the same the only reason I don’t do that is I find handling the attached paper fiddle-y and I usually end up ripping it 😂so for me it’s easier to just detach

@@thebigsewalong That’s good to know. Two ways to try something and then use the method best for you😊

Hmmmm too much work for me I am just a bit too lazy for this, but I have a jumpsuit with really long wide legs and I was thinking about just running two rows of bias binding up the inside of the side seam and threading a ribbon up/down it to ruche the side seam up wouldn’t that achieve sort of the same effect?
@thebigsewalong4 ай бұрын
Yep it sure would only it will be a whole lot easier 😂😂😂

It would be helpful to have marked each pattern piece with black marker as to what it was. Such a confusing pattern!

Yes Cynthia you are so right marking the pattern pieces would have been a great help
