Last night I listened to the complete Dvorak New World Symphony and cried like a baby through out. Today I found this excerpt and discovered I still had a lot of tears left.

The whole piece is out of this world. This arrangement is outstanding. It is also one piece that works incredibly well on bagpipes. A single piper for the first verse, then the wall of sound hits hard.

I am Czech, as was Dvořák, so I have known the symphony From the New World and especially the Largo since childhood, my father used to listen to it. And as a member of Dvořák's nation, I must say, if he heard this, he would be proud of you, Mr. Wright.

I'm Canadian of Scottish and Cornish background. Like you I grew up with Symphony From The New World as part of my life. The Largo has always tugged the heart strings.

It's New Year's Eve, 2023 and I've come back to say goodbye to the old year. Many years ago, I saw a movie titled "Snake Pit." A female mental institution patient sings this piece accompanied by a pianist, both in a very large common hall...the camera pans around to various other patients exhibiting broken minds and returns to her...tears roll down her checks as she sings...most moving scene I've ever watched. This arrangement is wonderful...performed by a fantastic chorus!

Have you not heard of Ambassadors of Harmony, Vocal Majority, Westminster?? Zero 8 is very amazing though. Not sure who my favorite is anymore
@RichMelvin2 жыл бұрын
@@1bbshopbrat Oh yes, I know the groups you mentioned. The Vocal Majority’s performance of the hymn “How Great Thou Art” is another one of my favorites. It’s the wide tonal range that makes Zero8 so amazing. Their basses rumble away on low d-flats while the tenors get up into the soprano range at the end. That, and the overall quality of their performance is why I think these guys are so amazing.

I listen to a lot of barbershop. I'm in a chorus, but I still usually feel there is letdown when even a great chorus performs a song that was previously performed exceptionally well by a great quartet, such as this one (Vocal Spectrum did it first). This is one of the only times I've changed my opinion. I love this song, this arranger (Wright), and VC, but Zero8 is just outstanding.
