when zeroing any sight; laser or RDS use a bench rest and range finder for best accuracy. Eliminate human error. Every time you shoot standing there will always be variation and difficulty zeroing. Guns don't need to be broken in from the factory. They're accurate out of the box.
@yota_blaster50304 жыл бұрын
“Accurate out of the box” is a massive generalization and simply not true. Clearly there was impact shift, what the cause is I don’t know as I stated in the video. I didn’t say it was break in related, I said it could be a possibility. You are never going to eliminate all human error unless you put the gun in a vise and at that point you are going to be fighting factory ammo inconsistencies. If I can hit damn near dead center on a quarter and nickel size target from 7 yards repeatedly, that’s good enough for me. Like I said, I’ll check it on a cold bore and make adjustments as needed.

25 yards is the recomended zeroing distance for handguns. Always start off a rest for consistency.
@yota_blaster50302 жыл бұрын
Statistics show the average distance of defensive handgun use is 3-5 yards and as I mentioned, irons were dead nuts at 7. 9mm inside of 50y it’s pretty flat so if you’re talking about the difference between 25 and 7, you’re literally splitting hairs. Not to mention you can be far more consistent with a 2 moa dot on a nickel sized target under 10 yards when you have no magnification vs struggling to cover the target with your dot from 25. I’m pretty damn comfortable with my consistency offhand as opposed to putting pressure on the frame and shooting from a position that’s not practically repeatable.

I tell everyone when making adjustments to a red dot optic ALWAYS make big adjustments. Don't waste your time with "three clicks". Start with EIGHT and go from there. Also you don't start sighting in a hand-gun standing. So much human error. Bench rest it then when you are on go ahead and try it standing. By the way excellent shooting.
@yota_blaster50303 жыл бұрын
I’m a worse shot from the bench with a pistol. Seriously not to brag but I’m confident in my ability to put accurate shots on target to get a 7 yard zero. I’m not saying everyone should free hand it but that’s what was best for me. Thanks!
@Sartek3 жыл бұрын
I've zeroed a LOT of red dots for people at the range I work at on the weekends, and have never used a bench rest. I do use a sightmark laser bore sight for gross alignment to start though. So far in two years, I've never needed more than 5 rounds to zero and put multiple rounds through a 1" center. Some red dots will drift on one direction when you adjust the other. I do recommend always turning down the brightness on the red dot as low as you can effectively see to minimize eye strain and glare.
@thefreshdeliveryshow3 жыл бұрын
Bench is helpful but realistically it's about marksmanship and why not sight when you're standing?
@JohnnyBlaze56802 жыл бұрын
IMHO I would zero it from a bench rest first to get it as accurate as possible. That does 2 things, 1 it makes it zeroed to your point of aim 2nd after it being zeroed you can shoot free hand and if it’s off you now have a reference of what you’re doing wrong and can practice your trigger and or grip mistakes you’re making and can correct accordingly
@yota_blaster50302 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried both with various setups. Idk why but I’m way more consistent offhand. I’m not saying anyone shouldn’t use a bench, that’s just my personal preference. But definitely if I had consistent low lefts or something I’d wanna key in on grip/ trigger pull etc.
@KP-Pro2A10 ай бұрын
The close distance is like that those clicks don’t add up to a very much deviation for the point of impact. Most sites are like one MA per click at 100 yards or something. So if you’re only at 7 yards it’s going to take a lot more clicks to move at the same distance. You have to keep in mind if you’re an inch to the left at 7 yards you’re probably going to be 6 inches to the left at 100 yards or some other larger number. It’s a lot of clicks as the bottom line.
@yota_blaster503010 ай бұрын
Depending on the moa adjustment per click. Most scopes are 1/4 moa click adjustment but I’ve got a couple scopes that are 1/8 moa. This dot is a whole 1 moa per click so it’s less adjustment than you’d think if you’re used to 1/4 moa scopes.

@yota_blaster50302 жыл бұрын
@@simpdaddybrayan1624 It’s possible that the optic wasn’t square in the mount causing a slight discrepancy in the angle in which it’s mounted. Screws can seem tight but are actually in a bind which would also effect the mounting height. My slide was cut by a gunsmith instead of using a factory mounting plate so the tolerance is so tight if I take the screws out it will stay in the cut without falling out so if I didn’t have it perfectly squared up when mounting it would torque down to spec but actually be off. I would just start from scratch, take it off, reinstall. torque to spec with blue locktite and try again from 7-10 yards. If you still have issues there’s no shame in asking someone at the range or gun shop. Have someone else verify the issue and contact the manufacturer for a replacement. Take pictures during the install/ on the gun, the adjustment screws, and your impacts to show the manufacturer just in case they can help you troubleshoot or to expedite the replacement process.

@yota_blaster5030 Жыл бұрын
In theory, yes. Just like sighting a rifle etc your zero distance dictates a lot, firearm characteristics, cartridge characteristics, etc. It’s not always as simple as “this bullet velocity is different so my elevation will change”, there can be discrepancies in windage from one ammo to the next as well as changes in impact elevation. I can’t say with certainty but I would imagine your optic height over bore can also factor into zero’ing and discrepancies in bore sighting versus impacts at varying distances. Long story short, I would zero at 7-10 yards (statistical engagement distances) and then based on what firearm and ammunition you have, find out at what distance your bullet begins to drop as well as where you have a discrepancy with shots closer than your zero distance. If you zero at 20, where’s it hit at 10? It is likely completely negligible but good information nonetheless

This aligns them in the lower third portion of the red dot window (lower third co witness). So my irons align with each other but not the dot. They are only used as a backup in the event the dot should fail.

@yota_blaster50304 жыл бұрын
If I understand your question correctly, I do not accommodate for mechanical offset or any type of hold over. I’m not a pro at this by any means so out of the box the pistol was dead on at 7 yards with no 6 or 12 o’clock hold so I zero’d my dot to be the same. Stepping back to 20 yards, I was able to hit 6” steel plates consistently so I’m happy with that.

Just a question why not use a bore sight its not like your going to be using your fire arm at 100 yds for self defense 0 to 30 In99% of self defense Scenarios. And you don't have to waste ammo
@yota_blaster50302 жыл бұрын
I might give this a try just out of curiosity to see how accurate it would be. However, I've bore sighted some rifles before and even shooting at the same distance it was not 100% on. It's good enough to get you on paper from a short distance but still requires some tuning. I treat any setup whether it's hunting or self defense to be capable of at least double what I'm expecting. If I assume a threat is going to be within that 0-30, I wanna know I can hit at least 60. Aside from mag dumping from the hip and other debauchery, I don't consider trigger time to be a waste of ammo. Marksmanship is a depreciating skill.

@@wildwolf8983 “Allegedly”, the optic and mounting plates can “settle” during the first few mags. I asked a couple gunsmiths about it since I had a weird shift during sight in. They both confirmed that it’s relatively normal and recommended double checking torque spec at 100,200, and 300 rounds. From there it should be good. I can’t confirm or deny the accuracy of this statement but I’ve had zero impact shift since then and everything seems to be holding up great.

why not zero from a hard surface like a sand bag or a table? this will make results much more consistent
@yota_blaster50306 ай бұрын
@@VRponch I go over that in the video, it felt unnatural and I’m more accurate offhand. On a half dollar sized target within 15 yards, I can typically tell if I pulled a shot. That and these red dots aren’t 1/4 or 1/8 moa adjustable like a scope so you’re only gonna get so much out of it. If I can hit a quarter at 7 yards, that’s sufficient for me.
@VRponch6 ай бұрын
@yota_blaster5030 I dont know man. When zeroing your accuracy isn't relevant. You need a stable platform to adjust the sight not to test your accuracy, the gun needs to shoot where the dot is not on a stable surface you are just adding more variables to the mix Lots of usually, typicaly, feels. Not very scientific I'd just stick with factory zero if it goes like that. But hey if it works for you
@yota_blaster50306 ай бұрын
@@VRponch the only way to 100% take human error out of the equation would be to put it in a vice. Aside from that, my accuracy is diminished by shooting from a bench. So I’m taking the bench out of the equation to eliminate as much human error as possible. Let’s say hypothetically we take 2 perfectly zeroed guns, one guy shoots from a bench but I shoot offhand. If his trigger press is bad or his grip isn’t the best etc. those things could affect his accuracy and provide inaccurate results. Then I shoot offhand and maybe I’m not dead center on every shot but I yield better results, is the bench still an advantage? It didn’t yield better results for that person so if something affects your accuracy, take it out of the equation regardless of what it does for someone else. If the dot is on the x, my impact is on the x, and it’s repeatable, that’s effective.

@yota_blaster5030 but your accuracy isnt a factor in zeroing...
@VRponch6 ай бұрын
@yota_blaster5030 again I'm no expert but we would zero rifles while prone to minimize sway because it would effect accuracy and the zero. You wouldn't know if the shot wasn't on point because of the sight setting or some movement while you pulled the trigger. A vice is perfect but a bench would minimize those micro movements. It isnt there to help with your accuracy just to minimize the movment.

@yota_blaster50304 жыл бұрын
Great question. I took my pistol to a gunsmith and had the slide cut and optic mounted ($125). You’ll notice the P10c rear sight is different from guns like the Glock in the fact that the dovetail that the sight slides into is forward of the blades of the rear sight itself. The sight is sort of an L shape as opposed to just a pyramid or block that dovetails in. There are 2 options both require purchasing a tall CZ front sight and tall GLOCK rear sight. You can either have the dovetail for the Glock rear sight cut behind the optic or in front. I plan on mounting it in front of the optic. Checkout Sage Dynamics for more information on this.
@Bayless184 жыл бұрын
@@yota_blaster5030 yeah I've seen Sage Dynamics video. His optic review of the Holosun is why I really liked it. If you didn't want to go the route you are right now Primary Machine offers an optic cut that mounts the optic in front of the rear sight. @yota_blaster5030 Жыл бұрын
No offense but that sounds like operator error. There are countless examples of people running these on AR platforms and pistols. Your holster should be optics compatible so it’s not an optics issue, it’s a holster issue. I would say every weapon you plan to use for self defense that has the ability to attach a white light should have one. IMO lasers are a novelty (with the exception of IR). With all do respect, I would recommend asking someone for assistance next time you try and zero your optic. If you have the same result, contact the manufacturer, defects happen whether it’s Holosun or Trijicon.

I know the triggers break in so I’m sure other parts can do the same but I’m no expert. Talked to my gunsmith who indicated your optic can kinda settle into the cut and suggested shooting, torquing screws to spec, then repeat every 100 rounds or so a few times. That’s what I did and it’s been dead nuts. I admittedly can’t bench shoot, it’s awkward AF but I can shoot dimes from 7-10 yards pretty consistently so I’m confident enough with my offhand zero.

I just got my first red dot, I’m gonna go to the range in a few days, so are you supposed to align the red dot with the front sight?
@yota_blaster50303 жыл бұрын
No. Google “absolute co-witness” that is the only setup in which your dot and iron sights are in like with each other however this typically requires taller sights. Mine is “lower third co-witness” meaning that my iron sights take up the lower third portion of the red dot view finder. In this situation there are 2 independent aiming points, the irons, and the dot, that both will impact the same target even though they are not inline with one another. Most pistols once you install your red dot, you cannot see your iron sights any longer. Either way, unless you have absolute co- witness sights, just sight the dot separate from your irons.
