@@AuruniTV most of them but not all, the Majority soldiers are just commoners trying to survive, they conscripted everyone they can to do a last stand. The smart ones flee right away when they saw Ainz with a huge ass magic circle. most if not all competent nobles escaped but the competent commoners died like Raeven's military strategist and his adventurers orichalcum and some.

I mean what they did was actually smarter, than taking Ainz army head on, objectively. If it was real situation, that was better course of action, fighting would mean death, 100%, and there was small change that begging him and bringing head to Ainz would work. It didn't of course.

I honestly felt sad seeing Zanac's head in the bag, I was beginning to like him too. And I LOVED the way anime showed Ainz's emotions, even though he has no expression on his face showing he's angry, you can definitely feel it by the way he moved and talked.

At first I thought I was going to dislike him base from his appearance, but then over time he gave me a completely new respect for him… And then they executed him like that… Edit: Also in a weird way, I didn’t really felt any emotion after seeing Zanac’s head. Literally the second I noticed that a rebellion was happening. I had a lot of respect for Zanac, and was suddenly ripped out of me before I had a chance to process it.

One indication of Ainz's rage on Zanac's assassination was him explicitly telling Aura to make the nobles who killed him suffer and suffer as they die. It was an interesting scene since his order demonstrates both a fitting reward and mercy for the enemies of Nazarick and Ainz's wrath on what happened to Zanack. The initial torture was is punishment for showing betrayal, giving them death is the fitting reward, and the slow and painful death shows Ainz's wrath. The Satoru and Momonga theory is pretty interesting, hopefully it's true since it will make a lot of Ainz's moves in the series makes sense instead of boiling it down to dumb luck. Momonga's INT stat should've played a role since the other stats also does for Satoru. It's most likely that the personality and soul of Suzuki Satoru can't keep up with the innate intelligent Momonga possess along with his low self-esteem making him do intelligent moves subconsciously.

well, i don't think they will die too easily.. neuronist is excellent at her job at keeping those in her care alive. death will be near but yet not close enough to grasp. Death is the reward and i doubt it would be easy to have. I think it will just be a slow and painful suffering for them.

Prince Zanac is truly the most competent rulers of Re Estize. Ainz would see his death really such a waste because Ainz really wants the prince himself to be one of his right hand in decision making especially in Kingcraft, in my opinion, idk.

What angered Ainz is the Blatant betrayal of a seemingly good king in Ainz' eyes to save their own skin. The best way to describe his emotion was being "utterly disgusted" at the Kingdom's nobles

Yes. Finally they did it right. I was worried since 2nd season which also supposed to focus on world building was made badly by omitting a lot of actual info out, but they executed it quite well this time. This has made my 2nd best season slot already. If next 2 episode they top it off with a good action packed finale then season 1 is probably gonna drop to 2nd place.

Well madhouse is rushing through content. An showing action costs Alot to animate. There saving Budget for a handful of action scenes. So far this season they have gone through 3 books....and the movie is going to cover another 2. So if we're lucky we'll get another season 3 years from now to end the series. Kinda sad, Alot of people love the world the author has created but it seems everyone involved wants to blow through it and end it.

I was quite surprised he died from a combat perspective, I know he sucked but he had a good position. The soldiers behind for the flank, assuming they were loyal that is, should've been a win, or close at least. It looked as though almost none of the nobles even died in the fight, I was looking among the nobles kneeling at Ainz to see if he was there. Expecting him to have sealed the deal backstabbing him. Couldn't see him though.

If you watch the scene 2-3x times you can see his smile isn't like "oh yes help" it's more like "Am I this disappointing for the kingdom, that everyone betrtays me?" So the soldiers that joined up were actually allies of the nobles and the smile was the result of the lost possbility of victory when those guys joined up.

@Cold Yes, in the novel Zanac actually killed a couple of the nobles that try to take his head. So they wimp out and call for their soldiers for support, which made Zanac think “I must really be a bad king if they all feel the same as these nobles.” It’s a shame that he had to die thinking that. Zanac really did have a lot of potential, he just had to deal with unfortunate circumstances beyond his control.

I really liked Zanac character. The first time we see him, behing kind of rude to his sister and her loyal servant, it's easy to see him a the little fatty, over-arogant and petty second prince. But trough the serie, we see him behing actually intelligent, making good decisions and struggling to find the best action for the kingdom. We see him acknowledging and respecting people he don't really like : his monster of a sister and even the undead kind who's the cause if all of his people misery... And it's easy to hate an arogant and stupid prince, but he's actually the contrary of everything everyone believed him to be. I knew how he was going to end, but I was rooting for him more than the princess.

I think the really interesting part is that in a typical fantasy story, he probably would have just been to the cocky kind of ugly second son of the king, but with how bad the kingdom was and acknowledging how others saw him that way, he strives to be much greater than the archetype.

Actually that arrogant attitude was just an act on Zanac’s part. In confidence he acts more like how we see him now(though not this extent). Zanac figured the worthless nobles would try to take advantage of him regardless so he put on that act to try and bait out nobles that were worth acquainting, like Raeven. Unfortunately after the events of season three with the king distraught, his brother missing, and the Sorcerer Kingdom officially their neighbors Zanac couldn’t keep up his act anymore. Or rather he couldn’t waste the effort to act with all his new responsibilities.

I actually love this season. The best parts of Overlord are the politics and world building, and see how everything interacts with each other in an organic, living system of interconnected peoples and states. This episode today was one of the highlights of the entire season for me, and I think the show shines when it spends its time building the world and how Nazarick has shifted its balances.

@@raychii7361 To be honest, you make a somewhat fair point, but I'd argue that this series actually does OP right, in that we see the effect such a force would realistically have on the world and it's people. It uses the premise of Nazarick being utterly OP to explore many themes, like politics, religion, people's perspectives, their psyche and the depths of morality. You see, if Ainz was a good guy and simply bitch slapping some evil Kingdom (like a certain Slime) it would frankly be boring as fuck. But the Re-Estize Kingdom is not just full off assholes, the vast majority are genuinely good and normal people, like Zanac, the adventurers, the general population, and even some nobles like Marquis Raeven and that Count. It's just many of the nobles who are corrupt and deserve death, and that the king was incompetent. Ainz is actually the villain in the situation. Nazarick acts like an antagonistic force and imo this makes this whole thing work. It is a stomp, yes, but it's not just that simple. On top of that, the characters are actually well-written and we get a full view of their perspective of the situation. There is just something captivating about watching genuinely likeable characters trying to fight against absolutely hopeless odds and continuing to stand strong, even in the face of annihilation. And as Zeronic mentioned there's the whole thing about Ainz being "evil" but that we see and understand his view point, which makes us understand that it's all a matter of perspective, and that the world of Overlord is not simply black and white.

Oh my god, that last scene was chilling, Ainz was so infuriated. You can tell how much he had respected Zanac after their little meeting and was upset that he had to die such a death. When I saw Albedo smile after Ainz told her to send them to Neuronist, I could tell they are going to have an even worse time than they would have in the war but then seeing Ainz give those instructions to Aura, I can't even imagine what they'll go through.

One of my favorite things about the after-credits scene is that after he sees the head in the bag, Ainz walks over and throws himself down onto his throne, when he is usually more dignified. His voice becomes bored and his attitude becomes short. The way he suddenly grabs Aura's arm to tell her to make sure the nobles die slowly, when he is usually very gentle with her and Mare. It's such a subtle way to show that he has completely given up on trying to place nice with these awful people.

In my opinion I loved this episode I've always loved the more political and strategic side of overlord because like you said about the theory with ainzs it makes since we aren't really seeing the aura he gives off when he's angry like we used to which makes it feel like he isn't as conflicted about not feeling emotions And shows that he is able to handle more serious matters calmer. I could truly realize how fed up ainz was when he grabbed Aura telling them not to give them a painless death. Also when he told Cocytus and Mare to not hold back since up until then he has always wanted them to be reserved

I'm an anime only watcher and haven't read the novels but the way I see it with ainz is that he's a human at heart. I don't think it's a full on split personality, but I always get the feeling that his soul is human and it's just the mental passives of the undead race which nudge him to what he does. His mind makes calculations on every deciscion; both purely utilitarian and also moral. But because he's undead the moral calculation is forced out of the final decision. That's why ainz talks about not feeling affinity for humans. It's not hatred, he simply can't feel a moral urge to engage in heroism to protect humans. It's like a human soul that's been repressed on an extremely fundamental level.

Problem is, when you build up as much as Overlord, people do expect something good at the end. Imagine building up something for a whole season and it results in a short 10 second fight. Only good part in Overlord was the Shalltear fight, great build up, high steaks, and finishes it off on a high note, all without wasting our time with pointless exposition dumps and characters we don't care about.

Agreed the politics in Overlord is basically the entire story. So whenever people say the non-action parts of the story are boring, they are essentially saying Overlord itself is boring. Which I personally don’t understand(maybe because I’m an LN reader) but Overlord’s political conflict is really engaging and always intriguing. Especially how Ainz and his subordinates will play a role in these complex webs of relationships, reputations, and deceptions while looking to achieve their own goals.

The mech sure is good to help low level to defeat mid level, but wouldnt stand a chance against high level. It would give the Pleiades some trouble in 1v1, but theyll manage if they worked together. However, the floor guardian wouldn't have a problem fighting Azuth. Even Demiurge, the weakest combatant of the Floor Guardian would be glad if Ainz told him to deal with Ainz

World Building over action is what made Overlord such a good show. And if anything, it makes the action sequences seem that much more thrilling since they are more sporadic.

I think Ainz is subject to the rules just like his npc companions. Whatever was in their description was what they basically ended up being. Again they do differ slightly from the descriptions about them but when choosing his race it ultimately might just be part of being an undead and it's his emotions are just being suppressed to fit the bill. They aren't swapping in and out but I think more like his sense of self is slowly being fused into a permanent state. It doesn't appear as often that he would get shocked at some of the situations like in the beginning. It's like shock therapy I guess. The higher the emotion the higher the voltage.

You made me think perhaps its as if its forcing him to revert to the settings he set for himself, like you said, he's subject to rules. Like if he put "Momonga is always calm and collected, except when he's angry" then when he gets super embarrassed its the game correcting him because he's out of bounds, not because he's "too emotional for an undead". We don't see it in the others because they always follow their design (or close enough to not need the auto correct). this would suggest as long as its within his description its fair game, also probably why we see it less and less. As if his human side is slowly becoming more like the character, he can still act out, but he tends to react how Momonga would, whereas he didn't as much in the beginning

Firstly, I didn't think that the Marquis was working against the re estize kingdom considering his efforts in the Katze plains to protect the people as much he can. But when they pointed out that his son might have been taken as a hostage, that dawned on me how bad the situation is. Secondly, I got confused why Ainz sent them to Neuronist when they pledged their loyalty to Ainz. But when you explained it, it made sense in the most human level why Ainz is disgusted by the betrayal. I don't think he thinks Zannac might be the best king, but they somehow connected on a basic level with two leaders wanting the best for their people. I like how you're giving flavor to the episodes. Kudos to you and your channel!

I feel the same. This episode was really great in terms of world building. But I felt about as angry as Ainz was. Here we have a moment of mutual respect, and Ainz even agreed to give a quick death that wasn't painful to Zanac and those brave enough to join him. Then there was those arrogant, downright stupid nobles, backstabbing the only person who managed to stave off Ainz massacre of civilians. I'd be furious too if the man I made an honest deal with, got killed by the very thing he was trying to protect. It's no wonder Aniz wanted these nobles to suffer. They're the reason their own country got into this mess and now they're gonna reap what they sown

My personal theory ties in to the one you mentioned about 2 identitys because I think that ainz achualy is as smart as the npcs think but he does it all subconsciously as part of that second identity of the character he is

If the duality of Ainz is to be taken as a note, I believe that both Ainz and Suzuki Saturo are not just duking it out but trying to reason one another on certain situations, Zanac's death could be seen as a form of it (trying to be humble/human and finding happiness via said conversation followed by no mercy for betrayal of a decent guy also potential betrayal later on).

As Zanac said, Ainz is definitely a monster on the outside, but surprisingly human on the inside. However, it ended up being the opposite for the nobles that followed Zanac. They’re human on the outside, but they’re truly the monster on the inside. Only out for their own selfish desire to live by disrespecting and killing the person they supposedly sworn to follow.

To be fair, Zanac's reputation was quite abysmal, so it's not that far of a stretch that they simply thought he had offended Ainz in some way, and even if peace is impossible, that doesn't necessarily mean that they can't save their families.

A slight change but I missed the lines form the LN when Ainz "granted" the nobles' wishes, where they insisted their families go with them and he says "even your families?" after it's clear that their fates will not be pleasant, and instead of telling Aura to let them eventually die, he says "even if they beg for death, do not let them die" implying (for now) eternal healing and torture instead of eventual relief, a more nuanced show of Ainz' anger at them. As said, a slight change that doest affect the trajectory of the scene, but it does miss out on some of the emotional gravitas of the fallout of the nobles' deeds.

Hope he managed to kill at least one of those mercenaries. In fact since he was wearing Gazef's old armor and other gear, he probably did manage to at least wound one or two before going down despite not being a fighter. Plus he had his attendant backing him up, so maybe they did do a little damage.

Zanac killed some of them, but those nobles were so trash, they sent their soldiers, so zanac was unable to reach the nobles and only killed soldiers.

One thing I liked best about about Zanac was his character design. Usually in anime evil nobles are depicted rather like Zanac. Short, obese, not very attractive while the good ones look like Renner. The usual ugly without and within. But they subverted our expectations by the good noble the ugly one while the beautiful one is evil. A refreshing subversion of the usual trope.

Zanac looking like a little kid on his horse as he was riding away was a great touch. Even though he looked cartoonish he was a true leader and worthy of being a king. It is quite sad that the people that Ainz gets to admire are all doomed, often by his own hand. Zanac really won a spot in my heart with this episode!

Man, I don’t understand the people saying it’s slow I absolutely love the political aspect of this series, it’s what sets it apart from the rest of the power fantasies. This one is a power fantasy no doubt about it but it weaves it into the plot as a secondary agent, it’s not just big strong MC destroy less strong but arrogant bad guy. The world building and character building of the rest of the cast is *muah chef’s kiss*. I’m so sad we’re only three weeks off of the end it breaks my heart.

The political aspect fails because at the end of the day, no matter how good or bad negotiations are, nothing will happen to the main characters. The purpose of politics is to achieve something one cannot do individually or with strength. However, Ainz and Nazarick already have the ability to do anything they want, so the political aspect falls flat overall. Even if you look at the story from the perspective of the new world. No matter what they do, they won't be able to beat Ainz in anything. The author already said even if everyone in the new world teamed together, they wouldn't make it past the 3rd floor of Nazarick. The story, politics, and world-building are predictable. Overlord is like a slice of life with the occasional fight.

Aside from Gazeff, seeing Zanac don the armor, was surprising at first but after going through the ep breakdown, I can say that no one else could fit it better than him. Loves the country, died protecting and fighting for his country. Definitely sad about the School Days end he had... Wish we saw him struggle some more... Would like to know more about how Neuronist took care of the nobles with her unending hospitality.

Zanack got so high in my respect list in this episode. Being what he is, not that physically active not much of a fighter. He went in a losing battle knowing he's 1000% gonna die. Tried his best to negotiate. Gave his sister a chance to run and tried to protect his father. It was soo good to a point where i wanted him to live somehow.

I really like how the anime portrays Ains reaction when Zanac was killed. It feels like when your wife/gf was mad about something you did not knew you did but still smiles to you vibes. It really shows how he was really mad and enrage about the nobles did to Zanac

I read the LN in a fan translation idk if I got the correct information but I thought it made more sense. In the LN I read when Zanac was riding back on his horse after meeting with Ainz. He thought to himself: "All I want to achieve, is happiness for my people too". I think it's much more brilliant as it further cements Zanac as the true king of Re-Estize Kingdom.

Loved the video break down, except one statement… Marquees Raven was only working with Nazerick after the battle of Katz’s plain but not the “whole time”. This occurred after realizing him, his family, and more specifically his son had no chance of surviving what was to come.
