Coming from someone who is planning on upgrading the twins on my n54 by the end of the year I want to say thank you. Plenty of video's and reviews of other branded turbo's but I can't find any good one on the cheaper Chinese or Amazon turbo's. Keep at it and thanks again.

LOL should've warned you about the oil and coolant lines in the first video comment. Wiggle + pry flat head at the SAME TIME is the key. And when you install them, wiggle + push down AT SAME TIME is the key (with lubrication). Another thing happened to me was the engine support from the top had the engine tilted toward the passenger side(driver side in your case). try use something to push the engine away against the frame to gain some space on the turbo side.

I had to replace that rear coolant line when I did my inlets and downpipes as it was leaking from the o-ring. After 3 attempts, over 3 nights I finally removed it without breaking it. It’s fun watching you do this build. I’ve done pretty much all the same mods on my 335i. My advice on Chinese turbos would be to make sure the wastegate components are all rock solid. Mine failed within a month (full wastegate rattle) but still boost we’ll.

I just put larger turbos on my n54. I bought all new coolant lines but because the turbos were so big, I had to have the rear turbo coolant return line modified. I took it into a place and they cut the rubber out, welded fittings onto the ends and then added a threaded line on. It ended up being cheaper than buying the new line and it gave me more flexibility for fitment and serviceability! Might be something you consider if those Chinese ones give you trouble with fitting the lines. Feel free to message me for more info and pics

I used to do so many rubbish jobs like this and I’m so glad I stopped and have started to now hand a few over to trusted specialists. Massively sympathise with the frustration experienced here, straining holding heavy things up , aching for days after and getting the oil out of your hands. When my turbos were done all lines also had to be replaced and I still have that oil on the coolant line.

Good work, the issue you were having with the coolant lines is common. I had the same issue and is common due to corrosion in the water system, that's why it's easier to pull the motor to avoid shitty situations. Make sure to check the water jacket holes for build up and clean the holes out on the block before installing lines again so you have a clean mounting surface for the o rings. Cheers

Yeah, it’s extremely difficult to get those coolant and oil lines off the turbos. The o-rings seem to always get baked on. Just have to keep trying to pry them out with a long screwdriver. Then when they are out of the turbos you can finally remove the turbos to get the line out of the block which are also baked in.

It seems like the hose that runs from the thermostat to the radiator has to come in at a very tight angle around the chinese 2 inch inlets to push onto the thermostat. I wasn't sure if ive routed something wrong but ive asked a few people and they have said its OK. Enjoying watching your progress

Aussie DIY'ing an E39 in Bangkok. Can't understand why I'm just finding your channel now, after 4 years of E39ing. Question about removing centre dash vent on E39; I've inspected pics of the units, followed tutorials about sliding credit cards into the corners between vent unit and hole in dash to depress tabs, got a pair of pliers wrapped in a cloth on the fascia, pulled - nothing. It will not budge. Most tutorials just smash the slats and grab and pull - I don't want to break mine, just remount the airflow direction tabs. Remove Factory MID and CD and push from behind? tried that (without depressing tabs) - bugger-all access.

Hey bro, update on mine. Got my turbos out. Left the turbo line at bottom attached to turbos, and unbolted top drain lines once I removed the studs. I went ahead and changed my oil pan gasket since it was leaking. I cracked the front coolant line dropping the subframe. Just fixed it last night. This morning, power steering pump, serpentine belt, intercooler back on. AND torque the oil pan bolts. Then turbos, water pump, engine mount. Imma keep u updated. The white is definitely from the e85, have seen similar white residue on other e85 cars across KZbin. E85 is known to react with aluminum and speed up it's corrosion. Usually aluminum forms a tough oxide layer that prevents further oxidization, but it seems ethanol can destroy that oxide layer and allow further corrosion.

OR fly me from the stateside and I’ll help you out in no time! Joking aside, when I replaced mine with Pure Turbo what I did was using a crescent-shaped pry tool and wedged it way in to pop out the snout. See amazon link for the pry tool I was referring to. The other trick you could’ve use was taking two flathead screw driver, wedge it at 3 and 9 o’ clock position and apply even pressure to pop out the snout. Freakin’ Dave, where was he when you needed him the most? Still washing his short short from the time he soiled it with red bull mix? LOL! Ps: Don’t forget to lube generously with silicone grease when you reinstall all the o-rings on the coolant and oil lines. Don’t EVER shred the new o-rings when reinstalling all the lines.
