I just made these. They came out PERFECT my family loved it and they said it was better then lays, thank you. I wanted to say if your air frier can only go up to 200 heat just put them at 200 for 8 minutes and at the end just shake it around. After that you want to put it on for another 8minutes then finished.

To all the people saying that it's far easier to go buy some from the local grocery store, are the problem with this 'I want everything and I want it now', society we now live in. Take a minute to just appreciate that you are being educated (for free, no less) on alternate ways of providing yourself with those convenient little things that you can currently take for granted. Thanks for the video.

If you're having problems losing weight, not because you're lazy, but for medical issues like myself, eating healthy is way better than ordering fast food every chance you get, so instead of a lot of people always coming up with excuses, why don't you give healthy eating a shot. If your income is extremely limited, I understand, but if a person spends most of their money going to McDonald's all the time, instead of eating that junk almost everyday give healthy eating a chance, and you'll be surprised. Example, as much as I love chips, I chose to try kettle chips, after eating them, I can't go back to regular chips anymore. Kettle chips gave me a chance to see what I was really eating, so I tried to taste my old chips to see if the taste of eating them again was there, kettle chips made me realize how terrible regular chips taste, and after tasting the actual fat in them, I was done, and I only eat kettle chips, or popcorn, chips wise.

LOL at all the nay-sayers! Some of take pride in ourselves and try new things in the kitchen. A Cook is a mad scientist in the kitchen because science is what we do! I had a bag of russets and sweet potatoes given to me. My slices are a bit thicker. My air fryer has racks so I easily tripled this recipe. I also added garlic pepper and did use sea salt. Had no salad spinner and as stated it is not really needed. When guests come to my home they are treated to an amazing array of foods and tastes they have never had and cannot buy! I have two smokers a grill TWO air fryers as well as an outside grill. Oh! The nay-sayers....You use more water flushing the toilet than this recipe takes! .......PROPS to this vid as it inspired me to RUN with this! SUBSCRIBED!

Our parents and grandparents and so on made their meals and snacks by hand. Ice cream was snow mixed with cream and sugar and maybe fruit. You can eliminate the oxidation completely by scrubbing the excess starch off the potatoes in the water with your fingers, as you add the slices. The enzyme that turns brown will come off in the water and leave white potato slices behind. The water will turn a little brown, but that just means it worked. Remember that water is H2O, and the O will cause that enzyme to turn brown in it.
@intricacy9490
@intricacy9490 Жыл бұрын
You obviously never did any chemistry. Making that Oxygen available in water means the chemical separation from the hydrogen....that requires a good deal of energy to do so. Sitting sliced spuds in water just doesn't supply the required energy.

What if you put those into oven, then take them out after a while to get rid of any water on them? After re-bathing them may result like your in second time.
@stary3735
@stary3735 10 ай бұрын
@@intricacy9490 You're completely correct. Best way to actually do it is to boil water to make it distilled and remove the oxygen, and then place the potatoes in that water once it cools down (use a lid!)
@lat1419
@lat1419 6 ай бұрын
@@intricacy9490actually there is dissolved O2 (and other atmospheric gases). The dissolved O2 will trigger the oxidoreductase enzymatic reaction that produces discoloration, which is the potatoes reaction to injury. The addition of acid moves the pH to a point where the enzyme is disabled.

For 99 cents at the store, making them at home isn't worth the time. Better to make something in the air fryer that's unique and really cost effective.

@@Slipshott $3.49 ($4.99 on Amazon) for an 8 oz. bag of Lay’s is not 99¢. It’s $6.98 per pound. Russets are $4 for 5 pounds, so Lays, as good as they may be, are many times as expensive. Plus you miss the fun and calorie-burning effort that goes into the process. And they’re Good!

@@minutebyminutespanish6889 I don't know how to attach a picture. A small rack would be what you'd use to steam veggies or cool cookies on. Something to keep the chips from blowing around.

One table spoon of oil for that sized potato is very very high oil use. In fact deep frying it in good 370F oil will make the potatoes take less oil than 1 tablespoon. Shoot for 1 teaspoon or less for that size of potato. I can do it with 0 in my air fryer, but I also have a full glass bowl with racks that really have potatoes in "air" instead of in a metal bowl.

@@akiawayne I am yet to attempt to make chips. I may not have a slicer that's thin enough. However I recently made a potato slice air fry recipe that did turn out OK and it had no oil, wasn't, peeled, washed after slicing or dried in a towel. I'll upload it and put a link in a few mins. Here's the link to the first one, you can just jump to the 5th one if you're looking for the conclusion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZrHd5ugeal1npY

Yes...I can make an air fryer full of french fries for just 1 cap-ful of oil.....Something seriously wrong with this recipe.. One tablespoon of oil is not particularly healthy...

I thought the same.. a tablespoon of any oil is approx 120 calories, and all that for just one potato, it seems excessive.

Hearing that crunch makes me want to make these. I need potatoes though. Best part, besides the taste and crunch, no greasy and salty fingers after. We used make homemade potato chips when we were kids but fried them up in oil in a cast iron skillet.

My chips fly around in the air fryer and fold in on themselves. Am I slicing them too thin?
@ZestyEstie
@ZestyEstie 3 жыл бұрын
It’s normal for them to fly around a little in the air fryer, this also depends on the type of air fryer you have, and the quantity of chips you place inside, the less chips the more likely they are to fly around. It’s possible that you are slicing them too thin if all of them are folding onto themselves, but if it’s just a few, no worries, just separate them when you take them out to toss. You’ll notice in the video that the first time I toss the chips some of them are stuck together, that’s normal! Just separate them and continue to cook, once they begin to dry out the sticking should stop :) hope this helps!

@@paulhough3579 I never thought of myself wasting water but I do live in a west coast rainforest so there is plenty of it. I do not ever water my lawn since our summers are not that hot and it actually would mean having to cut the grass more often. I don't like to make extra work for myself. I am very thankful that I do not have to think about being careful with water because I love having lots of it. I live across from the ocean, shower daily, and use water in my daily household cleaning chores. I can do without a lot of things, but a shortage of water is not one of them. Thanks for reminding me that there are many locations where water has to really be conserved all the time. I knew they existed, but needed the reminder to appreciate what I have.

Or...just slice the potato, put the slices on a silicone mat and microwave for 5-7 minutes (depending on the potato variety). No oil, no salt needed. No oxidation and the peel stays on so you get all the vitamins too. And they taste better than fried chips. Much better.
