I wonder if Ii Naotora's rivalry with Takeda Shingen is a reference to Ii Naomasa, who built an elite squad of former Takeda retainers.

Actually, (hate to be that guy) it's said that Naomasa greatly admired one of the Takeda generals, Masakage Yamagata who was known for dressing his troops in blood red armor to scare off their enemies. Essentialy, while Naomasa copied Masakage's homework and that's how the Ii Red Devils were born, they were comprised of Ii men, not Takeda. :) Unless there're stuff that I'm unaware of in which case, sorry for all this mate.

@@Solgrave354 Thank you for your comment and please, by all means, do continue to call out misinformation, because it's better to know facts that are actually correct and I'll fact check myself afterwards. I know that Ii Naomasa donned himself and his elite squad in red armor, like Yamagata Masakage. I remember having read about him being a ronin for a long time before his talent was discovered by Tokugawa Ieyasu and he was adopted by Ii Naotora. After the fall of Takeda, he turned many ronin who once fought for Takeda into warriors of Ii, probably because Naomasa himself knew himself how it feels to have no home or purpose. That's why I said "former" Takeda retainers. The red armor might even have been a military tactic, not only to strike fear into the enemy but also to rouse his men by feelings of nostalgia.

@@hildeboltvonberenreute5997 See? Told you there are things I wasn't aware of. Seems I should be fact checking myself here friend, I honestly didn't know about the rōnin part of Naomasa's life. Learned something new today so, thank you as well, I enjoyed our little discussion! :D On another note, why can't all YT threads be like this? Genuine good discussions with constructive facts and the like, no hate included whatsoever.

@@Solgrave354 I'm glad that I could ignite your need to review and possibly expand your Sengoku-jidai trivia. :) I suppose people simply don't like being told that they're wrong, especially by strangers on the internet. That, and it's kind of hard to convey intention through text. That's why things like corrections may come across as backhanded or risky jokes as sincere because text lacks delivery. Emojis sort of help though. XD
