A POV experience of a Japanese Somen noodle restaurant in Shiga,Japan.
Whenever I visit Nagahama, I always stop by this restaurant.
This time it was the first time in six years.
The shop, which was remade from an old merchant's house, has the same retro interior as before.
The garden seen from the veranda welcomes you.
Yaki saba somen (Somen noodle with grilled mackere), a traditional dish from the Kohoku region, has its roots in the saba kaido (mackerel road), the route by which mackerel was transported from Fukui's Wakasa Bay to Kyoto.
It is neither cold nor has a broth like ordinary somen noodles.
The sweet and spicy soy sauce sauce in which the mackerel is cooked soaks into the somen noodles, allowing you to enjoy the chewiness of the noodles and the flavour of the mackerel.
The Gozen set with grilled mackerel somen noodles is a great way to taste many of Kohoku's specialities.
