The Aperture lightstorm series (also Nanlite Forza series) can be used with batteries and weather sealed so can be used even when raining, thats why they are more expensive. The real competition to this light are the Aperture Amaran series and the Nanlite FS and FC series. Unfortunately, the Amaran series still doesnt have 500w light, but there is already a Nanlite FC 500B, and even a Nanlite FC 500C (RGBW light). The FC 500B is just 560 USD or 436 pound sterling, and the Nanlite FC 500c is 1100 USD or 856 pound. The Nanlite FC 500B is 21110 lux at 1 meter at 5600k (bare bulb) so its brighter and cheaper. The Nanlink app is also better since you can group your Nanlite apps and also control light effects through the app.

Agreed. I am a Nanlite lover and have already preordered the 300c /500c

Excellent content as always. All that denim. In danger of looking like a young rolf harris. Thx

To me it seems like a dust collector. The other bodies have an enclosed body for a reason. To keep dust out. With all those fans that pull air in and out in all directions there must be some that are pulling air in to push it out another. And that's going to collect dust overtime just like the 2013 Mac Pro trash can design.

Thanks, a great examination and explanation of this product! It looks fantastic at this price point. If it still costs the same when I have some money (won't be soon, just splashed out on an expensive gimbal) I'll definitely pick it up I think.

There is already a cheaper light which is the Nanlite FC 500B, which is only at 560USD, and with these lights, I think Aperture Amaran will also release their own 500w Bi color light in the near future.

I am a bit confused. You say b500 is very quiet. Many other reviewers say its loud.. so what is it?

I’m just drawing from my experience of it, it’s always quiet for me 🤷🏻♂️

no battery option on this light?

At that wattage, I think it's easier, more practical and cheaper to get a portable power station than a series of 26V V-mounts that would only power the light for a short while.
