What beautiful tone. Leia Zhu certainly makes the violin sing. If you close your eyes and listen to this performance, you would never realise that it was performed by someone so very young. Truly remarkable.

An ideal vehicle for a prodigy, as Mendelssohn was himself a prodigy and wrote this exciting wok when he was only about 13. The orchestral opening was a little heavy-handed, but your sparkling entry lifted the whole performance. You are already brilliant and will surely be a star in a few years.

This is brillant and overwhelming, Leia Zhu and Kazan Chamber orchestra! What a tribute to the very young Felix Mendelssohn. If he could come back for only half an hour as the 13yo boy, when he composed this, he immediately would fall in love with you.

I am going to perform this work with orchestra sometime next year, and I will most definitely use this recording as a model. Leia, your tempo is so precise and your tone is absolutely incredible! Menuhin's own version, recorded with Boult, is overly romanticised and sentimental. Leia's splendid account is more spirited and elevated. Marvellous!

it is evident that this piece has not made it to be classified as romantic period, but mendelssohn started the change (op 64 e minor) and set the standard for romantic violin concerto
