Tom, Zee, this was one of the most charming reviews ever on this channel. Oozing chemistry, the two of you! Truly built on a decade of joint reviews.

What if no one bids on property and no one has any money to bid?

I picked this up and I love it. One of my favorite games is modern art. The problem with modern art can be that it’s needlessly complicated for non-gamers. There’s 5 different kinds of auctions when there doesn’t need to be. There’s weird caveats to the scoring when there doesn’t have to be. This is just distilling the auction game to its essentials and makes it open for everyone. I’m still keeping modern art, but now I can play more games with more people.

I was thinking of Sequence too! Sequence and For Sale.

Thanks for a great and thoughtful review. I have the original and even "upgraded" when the mass market printing came out. I have all the same feelings you both share and continue to keep it on my shelf because it potentially fits a great niche.

At 9:01 Tom calls it the "Kill Dr. Lucky syndrome". Our group called it being pressured to be the "sacrificial guard". As they mentioned, it doesn't always come up, but it does happen. Still I like the game.

would one way to limit the 'Dr Lucky' syndrome be for players tp keep their money hidden?

I wonder if there’s a potential rule that can be added to prevent people from passing without blocking a player poised to win?
@heroicskeleton15662 жыл бұрын
I suppose you could, it would just be "If a number comes up that will win the game for another player, you must bid if possible"

Would setting the Pay Days like Epidemic cards in Pandemic make it better? i.e. during setup, separate the Pay Days (or some), split the deck into X piles and put a Pay Day in each

Highway 49 in the center of america???? lol - it’s a highway in California that runs through the tiny gold rush towns from the 1849 California gold rush and is named after the 49er miners. What a trip!

So the reprint is out for 2 seconds and is already sold under 2 'flavors'? 'road trip usa' and 'on mars'? because it has that many people needing those flavors? So we should expect 'Zillionaires worship Cthulhu' and 'Malibu Zillionaires'?

How about the phrase “tic tac toed” for the situation where someone if forced to do a move to prevent the game from ending.

I actually like the theme-less version, Game of 49, better. This theme of Zillionaire just seems weird. I like the abstract colored dots better

Interesting and unexpected retheme. Looks silly, but not for me.
@8bitnullnvoid7622 жыл бұрын
To me this looks worse than the original no theme version. The components look obnoxious in this one. The tokens in this one aren't transparent, I like the transparent ones in the original.

I was thinking I didn't like this retheme so much either

So it's Bingo that you have to pay for the numbers? No thank you.

That is an interstate color scheme on 49 but in the shape of US highway signs (ala rt 66), which should be black & white. Why can't publishers get these details correct!? So annoying! Pass.
