Galimah The Yakuza series is nice but i wouldn't say it's better than Shenmue because both series are totally different to even be compared, Yakuza games are mostly action packed around every corner. Shenmue on the other hand is more of a relaxing experience with rewarding moments. Both series are enjoyable but for very different reasons.

I learnt something new when playing the 70 man battle today, Ryo can actually start taking damage over time after he's been hit enough. I was letting every enemy hit me several times and recovering, eventually Ryo just starting losing health while waiting for more enemies and he fell to his knee, wonder if that animation is ever used elsewhere.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen real gameplay of this thing. Every time someone talks about Shenmue in a top ten list or video essay or something all I ever see are the quick time events and mini games... even the trailer didn't show any of the actual combat. As it stands it looks similar to Yakuza... not quite the same, but still that arcade-y 3D beat-em-up look to it. Needless to say I'm more interested in the game than ever.
@alanwake44426 жыл бұрын
VocalCalibration Yakuza is more over the top stuff where as Shenmue is based on Virtua Fighter which is more grounded in realism. I enjoy both series though. Suzuki was a bit of a mentor to Nagoshi back in the day hence why people say Yakuza is like a spiritual successor.

I never played Shenmue, but once in Yakuza 1 or 2 I got in a non-story fight in an alleyway that looked JUST like this and the enemies kept coming for several minutes. The Yakuza series is a spiritual successor to Shenmue- was it a reference to this?

+ibrungit1 this guy is just button mashing has no finesse at all. Just using power moves and knocking guys out with one move. The cool thing is when you use throws and parry / counter attack moves and deal with 3 or 4 guys at the same time who get back up and try to attack you again and you wipe the floor with them. They need to remake this game, can you imagine with today's graphics. These graphics where amazing at the time. It's the game that made me want to buy a dreamcast when I saw pics of the game in the fall of 1998. Dreamcast came out a year later.
