First trace out a circle about 1" inch or the desired size of the hose or bamboo you will be using to hold the kutchie. Then you can use a 1/8 drill bit and just go around within the circle. The closer you drill the holes to each other the easier it will be to open. After you drill the holes you may have to tap on it a little to break it free from the rest of the shell. You can just sand it smooth by hand or use a dremel tool. I hope this answered your question.

Hey bradda, So I created a chalice, I noticed the coconut shell absorbs water and make the outside wet. How can I stop the chalice from leaking water?
@zionsoundPG9 жыл бұрын
+boombapboom Bless up, you need to get some Envirotex. Envirotex is a high gloss resin coating, that will prevent that water leak. It will have no toxic affect on the user once allowed to dry and set before use, preferably 48 hours. Peace
@zionsoundPG9 жыл бұрын
+boombapboom Your going to coat the entire coconut with it, this will also help to seal up any leaks you may have around the inhalation hose or the cutchie stem. Peace

Bobo Zion Do you know what the ancient Rastafari use as epoxy resin isn’t ital
@zionsoundPG5 жыл бұрын
jccj jccj well if we’re going to get down to what’s ital and what’s not, then your not going to be using a hose either but rather bamboo . But the ancients did use hoses some even used a broken bottle for a kutchie. The epoxy is not in any way being ingested, it’s on the outside of the coconut to preserve the life of the chalice. But all that aside, to answer your question they wouldn’t use anything to prevent the porous coconut from slowly leaking out the water. They’d simple pour the water out after use and use bamboo in place of where you see me placing the hoses. The bamboo is cut in such a way that it fits tightly, therefor there’s no need for gumming it to make it airtight. By not gumming the bamboo, one is also able to clean the kutchie stem and inhaling line. Give thanks for the question and I hope I was able to answer your question
@jccjjccj33055 жыл бұрын
Bobo Zion ancient Rastafari don’t use hose, hose isn’t ancient like the order of Holy Emmanuel I. Sorry no you haven’t answered my question. Do you know what the ancient Rastafari used to seal the chalice? And gum it with
