Black crackle was designed for rust prevention and/or corrosion prevention and to lessen "glint" or reflection which could get you shot. I have spoken to both Zippo and GI's that have confirmed that statement.

That classic sound a Zippo makes can not be duplicated again in the newer models. I have a Zippo that was left to me from the 50's or 60's that still has that same classic sound, but the newer Zippos lack that classic sound I like.

If you didn't know it was from that time period you wouldn't hear any difference, because there is none, you're simply biased.

Even the new lighters made in recent years do have varying tones apart from one another. Yes you can hear the differences

The replica 1941 has a nice click to it. Slightly different than modern but that may be because the hinge allows lid to fold flat against body

I heard the bottoms were rounded so that when they cut them they didn’t have to make a bottom or a top they were the same

The true be known while making this video, I did not script anything and went on past knowledge and I am aware that nervousness played a role, but that doesn't mean the terms are incorrect. I have explained before that the term "lug" came from some books and from a reply from Zippo when asking them about the repair of older lighters. The word you stated is not correct, in fact does not exist. The word is lever as in a mechanical advantage. I have never heard the word knuckles used in Zippo lingo. Here is the thing, different areas of the country used different terms, and different generation used different terms. Some old GI's called their lighter a "Torch", some said "Lighter", while others stated it to be a "Zippo" I have heard one person state that if "I (you) intend to come off as an expert I should know the terms" I never stated that I am an expert, but stated that I have collected for a number of many years, have a decent collection, and have spoken with World War 2 vets and Zippo a number of times over 40 years. I have also spoken and have taken care of World War 1 vets over the time of my Nursing Career. I was wanting to share my love of collecting this great lighter and maybe get others interested as well, and thank you for taking the time to write.

I watched this multiple times before laying hands on my first WW2 Zippo, while a second one just arrived yesterday. Some knowledge was obtained from your presentation. Thank you for your work! People have different perceptions and make use of different terms all throughout the world. Hell with those who make a mockery out of it, not everyone on earth share an equal body height. Wish i could meet a veteran in my life too!

Do you know why Korean War zippos are Steel?
@vinnypango539 жыл бұрын
FromBottomToTop:........Your are somewhat mistaken. Yes, steel construction for conserving resources, as brass was more in demand.....The black crackle finish served two purposes. #1 was a non-reflective lighter in the field. #2 was a better grip for the often moist conditions in Europe. The more you know, Bro. :)
@michaelmatthews27598 жыл бұрын
The black crackle was also developed to aid in rust prevention, as early WWII zippo a were known to quickly rust.

You can get replicas on Amazon but the original ones are pretty hard to find your best bet would be a yard sale or antique shop a lot of the times they don’t know what they have and they’re pretty cheap

@@charmreaper, I don’t mean to be mean bro. But that’s terrible advice. His best bet would be on eBay. Plain and simple.

Learn some better terminology if you're going to come off as an expert. It's called a cam, not a return spring, hallow rivet, not a through rivet.
@chrisdicintio20588 жыл бұрын
Mike Bates First, The Cam has a return spring which works with the Cam, it is a different part. Second, the word is spelled hollow and not hallow, so don't throw stones.
@miiigoreng5 жыл бұрын
@Mike Bates having some knowledge about the things they own and be able to shoot a vid like this, i consider that remarkable. Even experts have its own flaws. Go make your own vid review if you think you're better
