He's gone and done it! I've got the Zishan Z2 as my cheap beater/daily driver DAP, and it's simplified my music-listening experience for the better. Still, I'm going to need something with a GUI again at some point for longer journeys/trips when I might want to carry massive chunks of my music library. The idea of navigating through massive chunks on my Zishan Z2 (I have maybe 20-40 albums on it at a time) would be insane. The Zishan DSD was something in the back of my mind, along with a couple other DAPs. Anyway, nice to see you pick this thing up and get your thoughts on it.

Just had mine delivered. I bought it on the strength of your review. So thanks for saving me a fortune on AK. UI is erm quite challenging (especially with poor eyesight) Sounds great. I just formatted an sd card to exfat and put a few alac files on it and it played them no problem. I have been using a Hugo v1 with and Iphone playing alac through Nuforce Primo 8 and I am very happy with the Zishan as a no frills no fuss player. Thanks again.

Hello Bad guy, is it bright sound? I had the m3s, 4490, clear sound but fatiguing after 1 hour, is the zishan the same? My ears are sensitive and i have now the oppo pm3s, dont know if they would be bright together, with the wm1a it is. My fav sound signature was the ak70 with the momentums 2, im very curious about this 4497, thanks.

A lot of good products are coming out from China, now that decades have past of just manufacturing stuff for the rest of the world. They got smart and started to first, copy, then do their own R&D and design their own good stuff, on the cheap because they are the manufacturers.

I have this little baby. I am not an expert but I can tell you for sure, the difference between Zishan DSD and my old Cowon J3 (160$ in 2011) is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. Some people say that Cowon J3 is close to FiiO X1. I had only one player Cowon J3 for many years and recently I bought OurArt Wine headphones. Conow J3 produced terrible sound with OurArt Wine. Metallic and thin sound, just disgusting. But after I bought Zhishan DSD my OurArt Wine sounds so good, almost unreal.

Because of your heart-felt declaration, I went out yesterday to to the only shop I know where I can "pay and go" for this FUGLY piece of clunk... I honestly wanted to back out when the guy took my money and handled over two items: an USB cable for charging, the player itself in bubble wrap... It's so crude it's down right raw man!! But you know what will be happening next? Tomorrow I will go shopping again for a MMCX 2.5mm balanced cable for my BGVP DM6 so I can find out how much even better music can sound from this block of tech. I was and still am shell-shocked by the "raw-ness" of this DSD PRO (AK4497)

Sanjay CR I’d say: a strange “don’t really give a fxxk to brand presentation/user experience, low touch, and even low tech (those tiny clicky buttons are extremely easy to be pressed accidentally, i.e. turn on the unit, draining the precious juice, making the DAP toasting hot for nothing) yet extremely high CP value in hi-fidelity music reproduction via wired connection” experience. I paired it with DM6 via 2.5mm balanced connection and I find my own music-Listening peace of mind...

i think it will sound a lot better than iphone. ak's top chips r 4499, 4497. zishan dsd got ak4497EQ (eq version are smaller and meant for mobile devices as they require less power to work) but they sound almost close to their full version. Apple used to have cirrus logic dac chips in their erlier versions, then they removed it. I dont know if they r using any good chips now or not. so my bet will b zishan.

If I'm not mistaken Zishan Z3 is using the same DAC as Z2 which is AK4490EQ. Just google that specific chip for the datasheet. The only difference between the two is that Z3 has a small display for easy navigation, Z2 doesn't. Not sure if they have the same stock OPAMP though. Both are at the same price range. If you want budget DAP, go for Z3. Zishan DSD is expensive compared to Z3/Z2. If you want way cheaper than that, then check out Z1, but it's only capable up to DSD64. All of them sounds good. As for the same price range for this DAP, check out Shanling M0 and Hidizs AP80. Just youtube or google for reviews. It all boils down on your budget. Then narrow it down on reviews on which is better or why is it better than others. Listening to different types of music is purely subjective. Everyone has their own preference.

bad.. very bad. Zishan only excels on dynamic driver based earphones. BA based iems on zishan products (z1,z2,z3) are shouty and not pleasing sounding. But not as bad on the zishan dsd, but still not that great on dsd. Dm6 and dsd is very very warm and muddy

@@timytimotius4679 hmm... which iems do you prefer the most? The DD'S? or the BA'S? i know its kinda hard choosing one for using them and liking them both at once. If your BA iems are only do have 1 to 3 BA's it should be fine with the dsd, if its 4 or more definitely not. Dsd also has balanced port and true balanced. Dsd has much better tonality and sound for me than the n3. But if youre into portability (zishan dsd is really big and bulky) and not into balanced ports, go for n3, N3 is good with DD's and BA.

Nice first impressions. I've tried the ak4495 version, which is the oldest, then the 4490 came out and now this one. I hope it is a worth improvement. Thank you for the impressions dude, again. I would suggest you to try the ihifi 1969 or the xuelin h6. I've read on forums that is kind of the league of the totl daps, comparing it with even with the sp1000. I had that ak4495 version too, it had a physical volume knob on top. Sounded great but the UI wasn't as good as the one in this video and it was too easy to hit the buttons in my pocket at work so I moved it on to a more appropriate home.

@@Goodgrove my favorite combo is ZX300 with FiiO Q5 in 4.4mm balanced (AM3B module). Cowon Plenue M2 via Line Out to Violectric V280 amp is a close second. Zishan DSD is a fun and capable gear, very portable. Soundwise, for the price, Zishan is an incredible offering. If the recording is well mastered, the Zishan delivers a powerful and crisp sound. The EQ on that gear is great and slight changes really affect the sound. If used as standalone DAP, I would say Cowon Plenue M2 > ZX300 > Zishan DSD. Audio files are FLAC, Aiff and Alac. I mostly listen to Electronic, ambient, female vocalists, OST, a bit of Jazz and Pop from the 80s.

I have never tried balance cables and I'm using one with my DT500 only in 14 from 31 and wow so much power. Oh my, thank you so much. Just bought a 200GB card and it will be filled with pure Flac. Hi, got mine today. Flawless presentation, well built, nothing to complain about. No shaking inside. Coming from Sony ZX300 and Cowon PM2, the sound is disturbingly good... For the price, I think it's unbeatable. The look also is pretty great.

@@howequalspeace ZX300 sounds definitely better to me, no hesitation. Zishan DSD is much more picky with the quality of recording. A well mastered track will sound impressive with the Zishan DSD, but average ones might sound a bit agressive, the ZX300 being much more forgiving. I have the ZX300 linked to the FiiO Q5, running my IEM balanced (4.4mm). Audio files are FLAC, Aiff and Alac, some DSD. The Zishan remains a funny and capable gear at an incredible price, but I don't see it replacing any of my others 2 DAPs in terms of sound, interface and build quality.

Hi swapnil agar 50-70$ ke andar DAP chahiye to best hai Fiio M3, maine use kiya hua hai, aur battery backup bhi badhiya hai, ha lekin ek baat hai ki UI ek dum basic hai, per sound quality awsome hai, sirf 30-35 volume per he ek dum loud hai...aur max vlume to 60 tak jaata hai....so i think entry level ke liye Fiio M3 best hai....👍👍👍👍

I've been watching this item on Ali Xpress for a while now but didn't buy it because the smaller brother of this dap the zishan z3 had some bad reviews and I thought this would be the same. My biggest problem is loudness I've been listening to music through my phone so I don't have any experience listening to daps but my lg v30 with its so called hifi quad DAC sounds clean but doesn't get that loud maybe it's my ears that are to blame but how loud do these get ?

Volume is on 22 max for my EX1000 but not sure what the max volume step is yet.

I think that loudness is a crutch, which we use when the sound quality of; the recording, the digital audio player, the earphones suck. Great recordings, played on a good-great quality player through a really good pair of speakers/IEMs/headphones don't require really high volumes to be engaging and transporting. If @BadGuyGoodAudio says the sound quality s amazing, then it really is.

Not yet opened up. You need to pop the SD to reset your desired settings like spectrograph or album art and DAC settings then pop back in. That is how i do it. Like setting amp x-over and gain b4 cruising if your amps are behind or uner your seats. I dig it but some won't. I have been trippin on it's sound and spectrograph for 2 hours. Good times :)

Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews just wrapped up a 10 mile ruck with a 40 pound weight in my rucksack. Hiby R3 in pocket and DMGs on the MeeAudio BT cable. 13 minute miles at a target HR of 118. The DMGs provided excellent isolation, and great SQ.

I've got 16ohm iems, but the sensitivity is 93db, so it needs a bit of power to get loud enough for the subway. For instance I'm using a Radsone ES100 BT receiver because my mobile isn't powerful enough. It'd be nice to jettison the long wire and little box...
