One of the sneaky things I didn't understand for the longest time were the difference of noteables that says "% Increased damage" or "% More Damage". Pain Attunement probably being the most used example of this. A good explanation video of different explanations of how different wordings affect your scaling could be cool!

@@mucke777 There's not only a difference, there's a HUGE difference. As far as I know, %Increased damage and the likes is additive and %More damage is multiplicative. The Pain attunement node cuts my dmg in more than half if I'm not low life for it on my low life character as an example. A single 30% increased dmg node would in no way do the same

Not just gem level, gem quality is huge as well! I was struggling on my bfbb assassin, qual'd all my gems and the extra damage it provided allowed me to run t16 way more smoothly.

One tip I would give too is that before you can get to the point where you oneshot everything, survability is actually a DPS boost ! :D (another tip would be, check the map mod you rolled, for instance, if you're playing a phys build and you run a map with "monsters have +40% physical damage reduction", well it is pretty bad for your DPS)

Softcore question ---- when is too much DPS bad? What I mean is, for more cheaper builds, having more DPS just means that you're sacrificing survivability for DPS. For example, I can get 50% increased damage, or should I get +30% all res to get 75% for ele weakness maps. The tale old advice is - if you can do a map in less than 7 portals, then you're good. However, it just feels bad to die a lot? Biggest thing is, it's so hard to level past 90 when you do die more than once a map... moreso with recent mechanics like Ritual and Ultimatum, where if you die, you just lose the mechanic. The question is based on another typical advice --- the best defense is a strong offense. My experience is this... I think my character is doing decent dmg. Shit dies fast enough... but when 500 monsters spawn in 1 round of Ultimatum, I just get instagibbed sometimes. Or that sometime off-screen tentacle monster barrage, and when I flame dash it, I just die. I know you can literally just spec and put all currency in defense... but you're going to take like 15 minutes to complete one map, by then, it just doesn't make sense to play softcore at all.

If you are only running low tier maps (below ~8) just having flasks up with enough life should be all you need to stay alive. Throw on a granite flask, jade flask, and make sure to have an instant heal flask. Be sure to have 75% to all resist and aim for over 4k life. Just having those benchmarks will get you past most maps without needed to spec into defense. Getting life/energy shield nodes (depending on spec) is unavoidable. If you get over 6% life per passive point its always worth it. (example - first point gives you 5% life, 2nd point is a notable that gives 8% life, average is over 6%) Dont worry about specing into resist/armor/evasion nodes to heavily unless it's 1-2 passive points away and you want the extra comfort it gives.

I love these videos that really help new players i started in delirium league and did a WHOLE lot of research into the game just to make my own builds and i learned just how much click bait exists in the POE community with these build videos. Do 10000mil DPS speed clear (oh but u have like 2k life and need 100ex gear and well i turned on every possible config in POB)

Another good hint for beginners on bargain hunting - learn a bit about gear affixes, or more specificaly about local flat and percentage defence boosts. Sometimes an item that has some good suffixes, lots of life, stats, resists, but an absolutely shameful main defence number on it, can be transformed into something that will carry you to Sirus and beyond with a single craft, and often can be bought for less than 10 chaos. Flat increase, percentage increase, empty prefix, count 2.

arcanist brand + curse + wave conviction is pretty nice damage boost for elemental / conversion build, you can even add combustion or other support gems to further boost your damage. Its nice to have on skill to cast and it will apply curse et debuff on your target without thinking too much about it.

I'm really liking the new lifetap support as a solution to mana issues (on builds with the regen to sustain it), now that it gives 29% more damage you're not sacrificing much damage to use it and it lets you sit at almost 100% reservation (I only need 21 mana for enduring cry and blood rage).

well the jewel searching method helped a lot and wasn't that expensive 1-10 chaos 3 gems and they gave a huge boost! i wasn't having particular problems with my dmg but every little thing helps. Thx for the vid it was very easy to understand.

The jewel strength is 100% the best advice Ziz gives here. It can't be stated enough that the strength of your jewels can be the difference between zdps builds and godgamer builds.

I noticed that crit chance and crit multi does add quite a decent amount of damage even if you aren't playing a crit build, especially if you haven't reached the stage of min-maxing your build yet

Noob question: Do spell gems have to be in the right order in a 6link? Example. A body armour has 2red, 3blue, 1green. But when following a guide the order of the gems are different. Example body armour again 3blue ,1green, 2red.

The best thing i could do was starting a SSF Char a few days ago without doing any build. You have to make shure everything works by yourself, and without fancy stuff. Then you have to think what to do about different deff layers like hopregen, armor, endurance charges and so on. And on the damage side you have to pick some mechanik like bleed, and then find a skill that works great with that, and so on. Much more fun than copy a build, follow braindead, overread something and nothing works :D

I've been playing PoE for many years now, and still I follow builds. I would LOVE to make mine, but that +10% fire damage does not apply to this skill, skittlebots with fire legion will proc elemental equilibrium and I can blast them with my... nope, they don't. There is SO MUCH counterintuitive and obscure knowledge required that you are bound to mess up. And for those who say "it's on the description that is for skills and totems are not skills and spells are not attacks and attacks are not garden flowers in spring..." ... seriously. The nuances are obfuscated and they make a world of difference. I guess in a way this is very much part of the dna of PoE, but I wish it would be, at the very least, a bit more intuitive and comprenhensible.

The helmet aura tip I didn't think about. Haste would work excellently with my build but I don't want to lifetap my skills so that's a pretty good answer because i'm using a pretty normal fluted helm with armor armor percent and a couple resists so there is room for improvement there. 1 mil dps before trying this without counting my timeless jewel because my pob isn't counting it properly not sure why, so after I might be able to squeeze another 100k or more by changing my aura setup. I strongly suggest putting bleed immunity on your main health flask, as your first instinct when health goes down is to hit the health flask first, and normally it's a bleed that is causing the rapid health loss.

Beast crafting for the immunity effects at Einhar's house. Alt spam for 100% increased armor/evasion on granite/jades and move speed on quicksilver. Make sure to quality the flasks while they are still normal rarity. Keep a look out while using alterations for the flask getting 1 good mod and using an augmentation orb to fill the 2nd mod if you aren't going to beast craft the suffix.

As a 3-4 league old player I hate following guides but have made a couple builds myself in PoB that got me through campaign and through a couple tiers of maps/conquerors. But I've always been struggling with making certain builds "Good" in a sense where I'm statisfied with it in the PoB as I'm not sure where most of the damage comes from. Gem level in this video has helped me understand it a bit more but I was wondering what the ratio between Skill Tree/Items/Clusters/Support Gems etc is. Where is my time put best to make quick gains for a good representation of what the damage effectively is going to be and where I should put less time since it's gonna be more reliant on the other parts of the build?

for anyone following guides from poeninja, make sure that the skill points from the build correspond to the levels... 90% of the builds in poeninja have more than 123 points in the tree when you can only get 123 max at level 100... if you see any build guide you are following with more points than you can possible have, auto filter that build out of your possible builds to follow... I wish poeninja put a filter into the build lists that allow you to filter out by points used in the tree to avoid them, but alas, there isn't one (yet)

2 random questions from a new player: 1. I switched around some gear for stronger pieces, now all of the sudden my chaos resistance is a -30 and is in red. I cant find a stat on any of my gear that says anything abt chaos resistances. 2. I bought a 6 socket unique sword for my build. Ive used every orb Ive found my entire playthrough that links sockets, and I cannot for the life of me link the sockets. Is that just like impossible to link?

6 linking is very inconsistent. Its gambling. You can link in 1 fusing or you can spend 10000 and not get it.
