Hello guys, I put this video and first I want to tell you that there is 230Kg on the Bar; 3reds + 1blue plus 10kg disc. I really do not know the bodyweight of Zlatev, but this is very near the olympic games of Seoul, so he was very close 82Kg. The 90kg of the team was Ivan Chakarov and he is sitting in the video watching Zlatev. During the preparatory of the Olympics, Zlatev lifted 230 more than once and even attempted 240 kg, but 240kg was too heavy for him. Any questions? Enjoy the video.

Oh, why couldn't they wait with Grablev's and Guenchev's retests. We are robbed of watching possibly the greatest performance ever.

i was training back in the day (in the early 90s actually ) in e Central European country and a former local weightlifter who happened to be very active in functionary positions of the club came and told me with aw about a Bulgarian guy with a goatee beard that looked demonic and very serious named Zlatev . and that he was the winner in his class in Ljubljana in 1982 Showed me some pics he took .No internet or many sources back then but made an impact .Thank you very much for uploading !Those Bulgarians of the calibers of Zlatev ,Blagoev,Varbanov Krastev ,Gidikov Genchev etc are legendary .Those lifts are mostly not surpassed even in higher weight classes

This lift is incredible. could Vardanian have matched him? Both of them were so close in lifts.
@rfjohns17157 жыл бұрын
You must be aware that several soviets said on LiftUp that Vardanian couldn't go without anabolics before he became quite ordinary. As you know the rivalry was extraordinary with lifters saying they were poisoned by other clubs. Vardanian came up to me at Gettysburg a likeable person then and somewhat ignored by lifting crowd as they were Rigert worshiping!
@rfjohns17157 жыл бұрын
skirts365 Yes go into LiftUp weightlifting site and many of the lifters tell of the problems etc.. Olympic press was miserable so many back operations then.If you were doing press you must have been lifting before 1972 or you just wanted to practice it. Have you noticed how lifters bodies have changed especially today.Most coaches especially concerned with lifters weight divisions have athletes doing no upper body as c&j and snatch is just a matter of locking out in elbows.The Russians were different doing bodybuilding and odd lifts on kettlebells.Big arms,chest,shoulders no longer needed.I don't know what these countries are doing to insure a solid lockout that is genetic or are they altering by operation.When I had access to a power rack I would put a heavy weight overhead and push up using my legs to hold weight overhead. I took the steroid winstrol issued by a lifting older doctor and it was legal then.Each pill was 2 milligrams but now they have 50 milligrams or inject it.I have no adverse effects because I would lay off for months afterwards because my body was overtrained. The bodybuilder Steve Michalik now deceased explained all the stuff he was taking. You can find his writings on Google.

The fact that both Vardanyan and Zlatev missed out on Seoul is perhaps the most tragic thing to happen to the sport of weightlifting.

Zlatev was also one of my faves, as was Nikolov in 90's. Any of the taller and thinner guys who could lift WR weights. If that is actually 230, and Asen was around 82.5, well.....that is absolutely crazy. It looked easy, didn't it? I knew the Bulgarians hoisted WR+ training weights, but this is ridiculous. One of my fantasies would be to come back as a WR-capable, 70's/80's era Bulgarian lifter! I guess that sounds pretty ridiculous, too!

Everyone at the time was using PED's not just the Bulgarians. there are many long retired Russian/Soviet lifters as well as from other countries who still train in the training halls with litttle else than speedo's with scars near both hips from testosterrone doping.

У Златева результаты больше и техника гораздо лучше. Да и выше он чем Юрик, а значит соотношение вес/рост - сыграли не в пользу Асена, но он не смотря на это был сильнее. И еще один момент - я очень похож на Златева, прямо копия:)
@user-nq2bn1gx6h5 жыл бұрын
Златева никогда не выигрывал у Варданяна, это видео тренировки, не сомневаюсь что Варданян также толкал 230.рекорд в сумме остался за Варданяном.Кроме химии эти атлеты феноменально одарены от природы, Варданян в особенности.

ah yes that's true. However, if you have the full video from which this lift comes from, it shows at one point at board with all the lifters names and bodyweights. Arsen's bodyweight was listed over 90 kilos at the time of the filming. More than 10 lifter were there and coaches werent sure whom would lift where. guenchec went down and Neno Terizski was there but didnt start. ineresting stuff.

@powmongo11 жыл бұрын
so why was Terziski there, Rumen there? At the time of the filing lifters were still trying out to start. I can figure out how to take a photo from the DVD where bodyweights are listed and upload it. it may take awhile. but I can find out exactly how many minutes and seconds it is in the video. Abadjiev had other lifters go down an entire weightclass, Guenchev, and toporov for example. I don't know what your point was about that being impossible.

I didnt say he was over 90. he didnt walk around at 82.5 all time time eiher. I know a few Bulgarian lifters, I coach weightlifting, I learned from Shin-Ho Kang former head coach of Korea. coached with Yanko Rusev and Noriar Norikian. can you prove he was definatey going to lift as an 82.5? Do you have the start list? Can you concede that perhaps coaches were considering moving him up?
@powmongo11 жыл бұрын
The uploader of this vid is NOT the person(s) who filmed and now distribute it. Zlatev lost the 87 worlds and lifted well below his best so if he moved up to 90 it would make sesnse. There were more memebers there than allowed for a team. Coaches were unsure who would start and there were some shifting around of weightclasses. Guenchev went down, Toporov went down so coaches were experimenting with weightclasses. Bottom line is Zlatev was over 82.5 at the time of the 230 lift.

He was scheduled to lift as a 90 kg lifter in Seoul before the team withdrew.Varbanov or Gidikov moved up to lift in the 82.5 kilos class. Still he does do 230. There is a facebook page for this video and all attempts and weights are verified by the coaches.

Wrong Varbanov and Gidikov lifted at 75 and won gold and bronze, Zlatev was scheduled to lift next, which is 82.5kg They said he was very well prepared and supposed to win gold easily, well, it never happened... Im Bulgarian, i was following this closely.

The reason that many of these lifters would do more in training than they would do in a meet is that they trained at a higher bodyweight than that in which they competed. At their level, a couple kilos of bodyweight makes a big difference.
@WTFOG508 жыл бұрын
Having trained with world-class Olympic weight lifters and having experienced this first hand, I probably have a better handle on this than you. The limited attempt theory of yours is vapid, at best. I suggest that you do a little more research.
