I love the investigative process between the two detectives as they try to recreate the scene with various motivation scenarios. It's also more creative unlike the deluge of CSI TV shows that actually recreate the scene within the scene so as to not allow the audience to imagine the investigators' thoughts. The music is also a very effective and is reminiscent of Charles Ives' "The Unanswered Question" composition which is highly regarded piece of music that has influenced film composers from Bernard Hermann, John Williams, and Jerry Goldsmith to Hans Zimmer, James Horner, and David Shire (Zodiac)
@Fan_Made_Videos7 жыл бұрын
If it's the style you really like then you should check out other crime thriller movies from David Fincher, who directed Zodiac, like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (US/English version), his current series on Netflix "Mindhunter". Old school movies like All The Presidents Men and The Candidate (both with Robert Redford) also capture the tone of the country in the 60s and 70s much like Zodiac does.

I love how they speak so practical about what they first assume to be a simple botched robbery. They don't understand why a robber would hang around the corpse of a person they just murdered, they don't understand why a robber would shoot a cabby for 8 dollars. Because they're dealing with someone far more difficult to pin down. It's like Paul Avery line, "You can't think of this case in normal police terms."

I love how the director David Fincher put motorcycles in this scene driving around and making a bunch of noise. After the murder of the taxi driver Paul Stine, the Zodiac sent the San Francisco Chronicle a letter containing a piece of the bloody shirt of Paul Stine. In the letter, the Zodiac wrote "The SF police could of caught me last night if they had searched the park properly instead of holding road races with their motorcicles seeing who could make the most noise. The cop drivers should have just parked their cars + sat there quietly waiting for me to come out of cover". In this scene, the loud noises made by the police motorcycles is exactly what happened that night. In all likelihood, the Zodiac hid in the bushes and had front row seats to the police investigating the taxi murder.

I'm not convinced he was still right near the crime scene by that point. He was likely in the area, though. As they said in the dialogue here, dogs were on the way, so it would have benefited him to leave ASAP. One of the first officers on scene, Armond Pelissetti, followed what may have been the Zodiac's escape path on foot, and it seemed likely to him that he jumped over the fence/bushes into the Presidio Park and disappeared into the park which was not lit and was in certain parts somewhat thick with trees and brush, which would have taken the police ages to comb through in an attempt to find the trail of somebody running. Both him and Donald Fouke, another officer nearby who reportedly passed by somebody vaguely matching the description of the suspect who immediately ducked into a stair case leading up to a house on Jackson street, described the area as being extremely well lit, making it difficult to hide. My guess is that either the suspect beat feet out of there and quickly hopped over the fence/bushes into the Presidio Park and left before police even showed up, or he ducked into the aforementioned entry way on Jackson Street when the police cruiser passed by, then he found a way to the Presidio and disappeared into the night despite the police being right nearby. It's a real shame if you look at all of the events and consider what small spans of time took place between police presence and the crimes themselves, or what huge oversights took place that contaminated crime scenes or left huge omissions from police reports that may have helped identify a suspect sooner. As retired Benicia police officer Pierre Bidou suggested in one of the Zodiac documentaries from the DVD; it's quite likely that they would have caught this person if they had today's technology and investigative techniques/training available back then.

This scene here is a perfect example of what CGI can do when used right. The decision to use it and at what amount derives from the question: will it be noticeable? Most shots that use an overwhelming amount of CGI tend to look cheap and make the scene fake and look like a video game. The perfect shots usually come when the CGI complements the practical effects (e.g: all Nolan movies, first Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, some Villeneuve movies, some Fincher movies etc).

Weird how this was the last confirmed Zodiac killing. Why? Did he decide to stop? It’s also noteworthy because it’s where the first composite sketch was made. It’s as if the Zodiac stopped because he thought they were getting close, or he couldn’t afford cops making a second composite sketch.

Why Paul Stine? Zodiac said, he was collecting slaves for his afterlife. And missed killing two of the men. Before Paul's murder, Zodiac had three women, and only one man. Zodiac was trying to make up the difference. So if that pattern was to make sense, Zodiac needed to kill another lone male. Did that ever happen?

He killed Stine so he could use pieces of his bloody shirt to prove that he was killer while taunting the police and public. The notoriety is the only thing he really cared about. He tried to take credit for murders he didn’t commit, and he kept sending letters long after he stopped killing. He derived his sense of power and control not so much from the killings themselves but from the terror and infamy that resulted from the killings. He thought he was smarter and better than everyone else. That’s why he changed his MO and wore disguises; he didn’t really get off on the ritual the way that other serial killers do.
