As a 17 yr old from a third world country, who learned sewing through tailoring apprenticeship programmes, hoping to start a fashion brand and doesn't have much knowledge on the technical parts of fashion, you've taught me so much. I didn't know what tech packs and a lot of other stuff was before your channel. I can't even begin to say how grateful I am to you for putting all this information on the Internet for free. I've pretty much watched almost every video on your channel in the past few months. I'm finally launching my brand next month (it's on a small scale for now lol) on my 18th birthday and I wanted to say thank you for everything so far. This was so helpful and confirmed a ton of speculations for me especially the part of the wholesale vs DTC. You're also hilarious. Can't wait for the next video ❤

But I've been developing my toiles and that part is exciting to me, and I think maybe I can do it... I loooved your last video about made to order, it was so insightful!! Zoe can you do one for operations of slow fashion brands, focusing on handmade techniques like hand made embroidery, crochet and how to source handmade fabric and what should be MOQ?
@daria120i7 ай бұрын
yes! id be veeeryyy interested too!
@zoehongteaches7 ай бұрын
The operations wouldn't be very different. The process is the same, it's the fast fashion businesses that are the outliers, they're the ones who cut corners and rush everything. Slow fashion is taking the time to design things well and not cutting corners.

I have learnt so much from you Zoe. So grateful I came across your channel all these years ago. I signed up for a CERT III in Fashion Design and Technology last July and will be finishing up soon. Thankfully the stars aligned and the government was running a special program where everyone that signed up in 2023 did not pay a single dime for the course (originally 10k+). I started selling reworks on my Depop a couple months ago and made things from peplum tops to scrunch tees. Can't wait to see what the future holds and see if I will be able to get my foot in the door with a house fashion.

Excellent video Zoe! Very informative, I learned a lot. I have a good friend who owns his own online fashion brand. He just did a sort on online “trunk show” of custom letterman jackets for pre-order. I bought one. I put down 50%. I’m sure once my order ships the balance will be due. He did a limited edition only selling 100 jackets. I believe he sold out. Just a real life example I think of what you were just teaching us about trunk shows. Solid sales strategy.

Thank you, Zoe! I used to watch your channel before. And now, I am trying to watch almost all of your video because I want to learn again so that I can start my plan to make a small brand. I was a fashion student before but I wasn't able to finish it due to financial reason. Thank you for giving your knowledge. You inspire me and maybe face my fear and just go with what I really want. Hopefully, I will enroll on your courses on Petreon. From The Philippines. ❤

Hi Zoe. For a brand outside the US wanting to do wholesale to boutiques, is there a way to do it without a sales rep in the US? Can it be done if the brand is able to hire their own in-house sales team in their own country? Or is there a way to directly do wholesale with the boutiques and give them at a less price since no sales rep so I'm saving on commissions and I can give that discount to the store who places orders. Please make a video on how someone outside of the US can do this. Thanks for all these videos. Truly helpful.

The mark up on wholesale price is called retail price. I noticed when I went to Myer, a department store and they didn't have my size (Australian size 6) for an Alannah Hill dress, they guided me to the Alannah Hill store which stocked my size and I noticed the price was the same at both the department store and the Alannah Hill store. When I read the Glitter Plan book, that put me off wanting to sell to department stores altogether. Air pollution turned into art supplies, inks, dyes etc, sounds eco but is it actually safe or is it toxic to wear or touch etc?
