How does a fabric change a dress? This vid discusses changes in drape and texture while giving rendering tips on how to do quick design communication sketches in marker. At the end of the video, I do 2 quick renderings discussing 2 very frequently asked questions: how to render black and how to render white.

Polyester doesn't breathe and doesn't usually make for comfortable sleepwear.

Zoe Hong Oh, didn't think about that at all. Is it something to do with how tightly it's woven, or something else entirely? Y'know what, don't worry, I'm heading over to Fabric 101 for a refresher 😊

@@rabthecab I don't know if I went over that specifically but basically, polyester yarns are tubes of plastic that are woven and knit into fabric and plastic doesn't breathe. Blends are ok as long as the other fiber is something breathable like cotton and there's a high percentage of the other fiber.

Zoe Hong I always wondered but you’ve made it quite clear to pick fabrics before designing. You start with swatches or do you get whole bolts?

@@TheWhitePhoenix2 I start with big swatches, enough to be able to understand the drape of the fabric. If it's a print, I want at least 2 full repeats, preferably more.
