I think Paris should clean the river long long before the Games😢
@elllied_3 ай бұрын
they’ve been trying to clean it for decades
@Mooooov08153 ай бұрын
They have been trying to. The problem is, Paris is a city that has been in large parts built long before the sewer systems we have today. Cities that are more recent have separate sewer systems for waste water and storm water runoff. Since the storm water runoff is just rain it can immediately be dumped into the nearest body of water. This doesn’t work when you have one single sewer that has both storm water as well as waste water. Since this water is contaminated, it first has to be cleaned at a treatment plant. However, they do have limited capacity, so they often overflow and by that contaminate rivers like here. The solution Paris built a huge under the surface reservoir that takes in the mixed waste water during storms and acts as a buffer to prevent over whelming the treatment facilities. When the storm is over, the water can slowly be let out of the waste water reservoir and into the treatment plant without over whelming it. The problem is that this is most likely not the only contamination in the seine. Since it’s a moving body of water, upstream pollutant also have effects on the seine in France. This can be anything, from similar waste water situations in (smaller) cities to agricultural runoff that gets washed from the fields. It’s a complex topic and they spend lots of money to fix it. However, since it hasn’t fixed it till now, I also think it is unlikely that it will do so within the next few days
