My favourite part of the whole night was when she snapped at the photographers. Chappell is on track to being THE trailblazer for a complete restructure of celebrity culture. She’s not putting up with any bullshit, she’s setting extremely firm boundaries, and she’s not allowing the industry to abuse her the way they abused Britney Spears and countless other women in the music industry. I LOVE CHAPPELL SO MUCH 😭💖

The thing that I find more than a little amazing is that she's doing that performance dancing, fighting, and singing in plate and chainmail armor. Yeah, it's probably plastic, but damn! And she did win Best New Artist!

For anyone that is confused by the theme: The song is about her dating a woman but the woman keeps pretending she isnt “really” into women. So Chappel is literally fighting through a fortress full of men to try to get a message to the woman she loves

Can’t imagine how hard choreography would be while singing, especially since she doesn’t do choreography at her shows. Sure she moves while singing at shows, but doesn’t act out scenes like here. Subscribed. Brilliant reaction to a phenomenal performance. I have recently become enchanted by Chappel's voice and music!
@thenoellew2 ай бұрын
Your analysis was so satisfying! I immediately subscribed because your reaction was so fun to see. As a performance artist, it has personally been such a joy to watch Chappell with all of her live performances. Of course, her recorded music is absolutely amazing too! But I feel like she really shines live. Definitely on my concert bucket list to go see! I also have had a sneaking suspicion of her being an ex-theater kid and I feel like this particular performance convinced me lol. I really want to write a musical for her, or to see her produce a musical - or just have some sort of hand in creating a musical. I feel like it would be awesome, and she certainly has the talent for a Broadway show. Also somebody else mentioned in the comments about the chainmail armor - I believe that it may actually be metal, but probably a very light alloy. With the way that it moves with her, I really don't think it's plastic. I also don't know if you saw at all, but Chappell wore 3 coordinated outfits related to her performance - one on the carpet, the armor in this performance, and a separate outfit for accepting her award. I saved a lore analysis video to watch later that breaks down the themes of her performance and costumes. I also highly recommend watching her acceptance speech, it made me cry lol. I truly believe that she is one of the greatest artists of this generation, and I can't wait to see what she does next.

She’s always with her band when performing live… I think that this recorded track made everything sound different. I loved the show, but it was not her best vocal/ emotional performance. But I can’t lie that I’ve been dreaming about this whole imagery set, this drag Joan of Arc is sooooo beautiful and nerdy

@@Glassdoll208yep, but what we hear and maybe what she’s hearing, is the very loud backtrack… it’s not a common thing. When she performs live we can hear the drums… It seems that this big and perfect show asked for all this different decisions (heavy clothes, loud backtrack) that made her feel different in her body (her main vocal instrument). I really really loved it, I’m a dancer, not a singer :) But we’re watching the rising of a great star and I think that all of her power when performing live comes from her body responding to the band, and this was a whole new situation 😊

Great analysis. Chappell has amazing pitch, but like a lot of pop singers she can lose a little control in the lower registers, perhaps due to the point of projection being more forward than say in theatrical singing (does this make sense?). Anyway, it's not a criticism, it's her style and it works brilliantly. What she does have is incredible control at higher pitch. Just listen to her vocals on My Kink is Karma - astounding flexibility.
