It's deja vu all over again. It's certainly satisfying to watch your successes but I have to admit I miss these videos about experimentation and innovation (and a little fishing). This is why I started watching you 4+ years ago and it's a real treat now when you make them.

You're not a bad guy. I like the way you took something functional, like your skeg, and turned it into a piece of art. Very creative!

I started watching your vids over a month ago. You were one of the reasons that made me say I'm getting a kayak. Bought a used kaku wahoo and have taken it out a few times now. This weekend I nailed a 30 and a 31" redfish in it up here in the homosassa area. That justified every dollar I've put into this thing in the last few weeks! Thanks for your inspiration and keep the videos coming man! (Iknowyourebusybutmakemore!!lol)

Great DIY video, no foolin' around, all solution and no yak-yak-yak. This is a really clever, simple solution to a skeg. I just bought an older Cobra Tourer, great boat but weathercocks badly in a beam wind. A well balanced, fixed position skeg should be perfect... and yes, you are awesome.

I think this is the first of your videos I've seen, and you've made more off-exact-topic statements which are helpful for my kayak decision than a lot of other videos. Thank you. Also, I've been a fan of small boats as long as I can remember. Now I know about those other Pecian boats, and want one of those, too. If I had a place to store one and a way to haul it, I'd be hard-pressed on my decision of which to get first. But my choice still remains with a kayak.

Always a pleasure to watch. Maybe you could turn your skeg into a rudder with a couple of pulleys. I bought a tin boat off an old timer with a very small homemade continuous string pulley steering that runs to the second seat. Pull string one way or the other to steer.

Yah. Still cringe when he puts that 1" hole bit to the brand new kayak. RE: skegs, the banana leaf is crafty but adds a ton of drag. Longer is better. Thinner is better. Think an aluminum street sign.
@1nvisible17 жыл бұрын
Also, any part of the skeg above the water line is wasted. In one of the images there's about 6" of skeg above the water line. Only wet skeg does its job.

Hi, great videos. Have you any ideas on how to reinforce scupper holes? I would ideally like to strengthen my scuppers before they potentially crack rather than do a repair if the worst ever did happen. More for peace of mind as I take my kayak out on the ocean in the UK and the water is pretty dam cold if I sink. Cheers

Thanks for sharing my video! I almost went a similar route as you on the skeg, but (for me) found a simpler, more cost effective way. The only drawback I have, is I have to now launch backwards. Anyways, great vid! Always look forward to them.

Great video Marty. Im on the verge of buying a kayak. You have some very calm water there...Here in Texas the lakes can actually produce white caps. When the waters are choppy, I would think it would be nice to put on pontoons and when the lakes are calm, to be able to take them off. Do you know of a video that shows portable pontoons?

Always enjoy your videos man!!! I came across one of your videos of fishing with shrimp 🍤 and triggered me to get into kayaking. But I would suggest that you could mention to check with your state regulations for the body of water your fishing what their requirements are for a kayak. Over in California (socal)requires a minimum of 10ft and has to be a sit in kayak mainly because the reservoirs out here are all for providing water to the public so they want to minimize the water to become "contaminated" (takes a lot more than somebody exposing their feet in the water 😂). And if there is anybody thinking about kayak fishing...I say do it!!! It's so much fun and for me it's therapy 🤙🏻. Anyways take care and float on 😎

Great video Marty. I recently found your channel and binged watched now for the past few days. Your channel has convinced me to look at picking up a kayak and merge it with my other passion of bowfishing. Haven't gotten a kayak yet, but was looking at that Pelican catch 120 NXT since I figure I would need a more stable platform for standing, mainly for bowfishing. It looked great, but I was worried about how it tracked in the water. However, when I saw your new video that you were making a skeg mod for the NXT to improve the tracking, I will admit I got excited like a little school girl. I think this video now has convinced me to pick this kayak up. I was also wondering if you've done anything like bowfishing before and if you had any suggestions for what to build (maybe with scotty mounts) to hold a bow on the kayak? Keep up the great work and keep being awesome!
